  • I'm pretty sure I saw 40% off cerntain Ultraloq models a month ago.

Admittedly, I'm not sure which model…

  • do I need a handyman to install this or can I do it myself?

    • Yourself plus YouTube

    • Most can be installed easily.
Depends on thickness of door, I found some may need to break/cut the extra length of metal inside.

I have this smart lock and am actively seeking an alternative. The app is a buggy mess and almost always unresponsive. Support has never responded to my queries, either.

    • +1

@Broos Not sure what you are doing …. I have 5x of these, one was 3 years old and their support still offered me assistance even tho warranty had clearly lapsed - I get a response within 24-48 hours and because of PEBCAK they offered me a huge discount to to buy a replacement/upgrade from the old wifi bridge version with the built in wifi.

The only downside is the battery replacement, but the features are amazing app and app really good too. If the price went up for the Wifi version, then i'd recommend buying the other version where wifi is using a bridge, as that is around the same price as the wifi version which is on sale now….

Also with your support issues, did you raise a ticket? Then you get an email, and then you can correspond via email directly - the most useful support person is Sally by far.

      • What's the downside with the battery replacement? I'm about to pull the trigger on this deal?

        • The WiFi model barely lasts a month or two with standard Eneloops.

          • @DoctorCalculon: Any other alternative products worth looking at instead then or just set a reminder to rotate and charge batteries regularly in one of these?

            • @fraid knot: I have got both the older WiFi models (bought 2022) and newer ones (2023).
The newer models have slightly upgraded hardware but have the worst battery drain.

I would go with Yale, but they are more expensive with worse customer support.

              • @DoctorCalculon: Do you think the U-Bolt Pro without the wifi built in would have substantially better battery life or much of a muchness?

                • +1

@fraid knot: Without wifi built in (using the bridge), I’m seeing 3-4 months battery life on average

                  • @cycloneaussie: Is there an Australian powerplug version of the bridge or do you just use an adapter?

        • Lol everyone is scared when the battery life is mentioned.

I'd be curious to see a lock that has the same features …

And if anyone is genuinely concerned in wifi battery drain … Disable wifi then????

          • @db2k: Not really scared. I just wanted to make sure I was spending my dollars on the right product. I bought the Pro Wifi model and just installed it this morning and seems to be working well so far.

But I just went down a rabbit hole as to whether or not I can get the barrel re-keyed the same as my other doors. There is a lot of hate out there and sounds like a locksmith will laugh at me if I take it in.

  • Always the way…it's down to $198.79 now after I bought it already.
