  • Thanks OP,

It’s a difficult decision between this and the Q Reno because the only real benefit is the better obstacle avoidance, but it costs substantially more. Q revo is on sale everywhere atm.

    • I am considering the Q reno and ECOVACS Deebot X1 Omni. Both of them are $1,499 now.

      • I had nothing but issues with the Ecovacs app, the robot kept losing maps and tried to re-map almost every clean. I ended up returning the T20 Omni and bought the Q Revo and am super happy with it.

      • where is the q revo 1499?

        • Buy ultimate gift cards on Wednesday and get the q revo from jb for around $1300

        • Amazon Black Friday Deals

    • I just purchased the Q7 max, is it really worth the extra $1700 for something like this? Pretty new to robot vacs so.

      • Not really you're better off with the Q7 Max now and upgrading in a few years time, I went from a S5 to the Q Revo which was a good jump in terms of new features but ultimately the cleaning performance isn't that much better except for the mopping.

        • Thought so! I am only really after the vacuum side of it as my new house can't really be mopped.

    • Higher suction power and bigger water tank as well but yeah the price increase is steep.

    • Get the Q Revo. We were debating this exact question for months.. Decided to pull the trigger on the Q Revo last sale. Avoids obstacles fine… Sure some tests show it running over simulated dog poo, but for just normal stuff at home, it's great. Perfect mopping and suction power. Can't fault it. Not missing anything compared to my friends S8 Pro Ultra. Glad I saved $700+

I ended up getting the regular S8 from Amazon for under $1000.

No auto empty bin, but I don't mind. It's performing amazing doing it's routine while we are at work!

  • Does anywhere price match Costco usually?

    • I priced matched tyres with Bob Jane. It was $8 less in total, but still a something! haha

Possible to get from China (model G20), buy a motherboard from Aliexpress, and have it work in Australia - just did it last week, total ~$1200 delivered.

    • Any chance you could share the link of the motherboard? Do all of the features still work?

      • Bought this one: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005005960922959.html

Came in less than 2 weeks.

        All features work fine.

I was actually wondering if I can make a few bucks doing this as a service for those who are interested

        • Looked into this option & turns out the spare motherboard sold out everywhere. (Only S8 Plus board available)

          • @[Deactivated]: Don't hold me to this but they maybe the same motherboard. AFAIK there is no S8 or S8+ equivalent in China, it's all just S8 Pro Ultra (G20).

        • Got some extra info from one of the sellers, en-route boards are being recalled by Roborock.

Seller stated they might found some faulty items in the last batch.

    • And void warranty i guess..

      • +1

Yes but at less than 1/2 price, it was a risk I was willing to take. And all the parts are pretty much available on AliExpress.

    • Love this, I wonder what else works and has parts.

Where did you purchase the G20 from?

    • @madpig83 did you order through the Chinese Roborock website? Did you use a package forwarder? I could only imagine that price excluding delivery!

      • @Suspect420, @puffnfresh, I used taobao, includes delivery via their Cainiao service. I got a "B2" model which is "95% new". What it means is that it might've been taken out the box and "lightly" used. This saved around RMB300-400 vs 99% "B1" new (and then there is actual brand new). I was ok with this given I was going to open the thing up anyway.

I asked them to open it up and test it and they sent a video. I could see from the video the actual bot was like brand new. When I actually received it I discovered it was the dock that was a bit used - it was evident there was water pumped through it. It was also missing two disposable parts (maintenance brush and water filter) which they have since replaced for me (this was a bit of a pain due to the forwarding so the lesson would be to ask them to check over everything).

        • @madpig83: thank you, I placed an order last night and it's being shipped to the transshipment hub. I was able to place the Taobao order by guessing what buttons/labels meant, it's pretty intuitive, but I used Google translate every now and then just to double check.

I also got the B2 95% for $983.65 but I did see a flash of a message which Google translated to something like "cross-border freight to be paid" after I ordered - going to ignore that for now.

The Valetudo (offline robot vacuum software) people and security researchers have rooted the S8 and gotten full access to the machine. I'm pretty sure the G20 board has exactly the same specs. Using that hack, I'm hoping I can either flash the G20 with the S8 firmware and/or just install Valetudo. Worst case I can order a board but I'm pretty confident that I shouldn't have to.

          • @puffnfresh: That price seems about right, I was quoting a motherboard replaced + delivered (by boat) price.

Very interested what you find with Valetudo however I think S8 is slightly different to S8 Pro Ultra with the mopping. And as pointed out by others, S8 and S8+ are different motherboards to S8 Pro Ultra. Please post your experience.

            • @madpig83: @madpig83: yes sorry, I should have been more specific, but all of S8 family, including S8 Pro Ultra, were recommended by Valetudo at some point but have since been moved to experimental.

              We'll see!

              • @puffnfresh: Just paid additional $84AUD for shipping, bringing total to around $1067AUD.

  • Between this one and Q Revo which one do you suggest?

    • +1

This one is obviosuly better but for $$. Tho I'm considering as well..

      • Are you sure about "Obviously"?
I was looking for a good discount to buy the S8 Pro ultra, but now I have seen some YouTube movies that say the only difference is obstacle avoidance, do you believe that the difference is more than this? (the price difference currently is 700$)

  • +1

I opted to go the Dreame L10s ultra over the Q Revo, object recognition and obstacle avoidance is better in the reviews I've seen. A few reviewers have even suggested it's on par with this flagship Roborock S8 Ultra. L10s is currently on special for $1499 at Amazon and Domayne.

  • They offered it $120 cheaper in July https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/786982
Making a Black Friday deal worse than some random offer in July seems a bit like price gauging, but maybe that's just me

  • Will there be further discount on the day of the Black Friday? Amazon and retailer stores. I never shopped Black Friday before lol should I wait till Friday?

  • +1

Does anyone have links to very non biased reviews/videos for the S8 Ultra v Dreame v Q Revo?
    Thanks!

Not 3 model comp in single clip but i posted one above and
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPtqfMa7bz4

My take is if you have kid(s) and $ then s8 ultra.
      Otherwise Q Revo

I personally had/have 2 LIDAR robot vaccum and it almost always stuck with cables and small objects coz the sensor part located on top of the machine and anything lower than that,it relies on bump sensor.

Only solution so far is setting up no go zone from the app.

      • No kids yet, but 1 dog and 2 cats.
I can afford the S8 Ultra, it's just a lot of money for a Robo Vacuum.
50/50 as the Revo looks great for Hardwood Floors, which is 3/4 of my house, but the object avoidance is annoying on the Revo a little.
Plan on having kids soon, so may be worth the extra $$s.

  • Asked Amazon seller if they can price match but the answer is they gonna lose money for that price LOL

Also mentioned they're just an authorised reseller, not Roborock itself despite it's marked as Roborock AU FYI

How does the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra compare to the new Ecovacs Omni X2?
There are no proper comparisons of the two yet, can anyone comment how you find the X2 if you have it?
Only differences I can see is X2 has:
-wider roller (but only 1 roller system)
-hot water to wash the mops at dock (unsure maybe S8 Pro Ultra also does)
-square shape is more suited to corners maybe
    -2.5 year warranty

Thinking to get X2 on Cyber Friday ($2180 with some bonus spares).

    • Roborock S8 Pro Ultra has an edge over Ecovacs Omni X2 in the carpet cleaning department where dual brush system is an advantage (in saying that, I don't rate robots highly for cleaning carpets as such). Omni X2 has 25% better suction and spinning mopping pads making it a better choice for hard floor households.

  • Has anyone ordered from this deal and know what the delivery timeframe is like? Thinking of getting one if it’s not too long, but otherwise will get a Q Revo from JB Hi-Fi in store ..

    • OOS :(

      • Yeah, I was too slow, off to JB this morning!
