  • Awesome, put in calendar. Are there any issues buying with AU shipping address or credit card?

    • You need to use US address

      • -5

but i dont have a house over there

        • Either use the address of a random hotel or you could put in your AU adress then just change the country and have a matching US state and zip code in that state.

        • Was I the only one that found that funny.

        • +1

or use a mail forwarding address…

  • +5

It already started, I already posted it here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81217 but I think it deserves it own post. and you link it to wrong version
    Standard version: http://www.amazon.com/Electronic-Arts-40834ttlefield-32-Batt…

    • Oh, sorry. I didn't see BF3 in your post - you should have put it at the top as it is the best deal! The mods should transfer this deal to your account then!

  • What DRM will it use? Origin or Amazon's own?

I already own the disc version but it's well worth $7.50.

    • Origin
Edit: I'm not sure but when I bought it you can choose to redeem the code in Origin or directly download it from Amazon

      • Origin

        • The patches for this game are massive, and they download really slow from Origin.

At least that was my experience. I have the LE.

  • Can you play online in Australia even though you bought it from the US? Thanks

    • +2

      yes

  • The game's on sale today, i think you got confused by it saying 10/6, which is 6th of October in US format.

I just bought it, am downloading now.

  • do we need to make ghost account for this?

    and US credit card?

    • just a US address is needed

  • +2

Is the Premium version also $7.50 or just the standard version? cos the link is to the premium version which is $59.99

    • standard only

      • kind of a misleading link then?

  • I take it you still need Origin to play this online?

  • -8

Wrong date, wrong version, and essentially a dupe.

EDIT: is the code not working for anyone else?
EDIT2: the OCTOFUN1 code can only be used once per account

Decided to buy the Premium version off EA Mexico for $38 instead of this as the 4 expansion packs are worth $30 IMO.

    • How can you buy it on EA Mexico, Did you pay by AU card?

      • +1

Found a guide posted by a guy on Ozbargain. His name started with an "s" and it was posted in June. Search for it. I'm sure you'll find it pretty quickly. Involves using a proxy. It was really easy.

  • +1

Downloading it now. I'll see some of you on the battle ground soon :)

  • +1

am i missing out on anything if i dont get the premium version?

    • +2

      Key Features:
      - All Five Expansion Packs with Early Access (3 out now)
      - Stand out with Exclusive in-game items
      - Powerful New Features
      - Exclusive Online Double XP Events
      - Insider Tactics from DICE

      http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/premium

    • To be honest I think you miss out on a lot without premium but at this price it is a great entry into the game to see what it is all about and if you enjoy it. If you get hooked then you simply find a cheap offering for the premium pack and you are set to go. The maps available to the stock standard version are great maps and you should really enjoy them.

      • very true. Try it out and see if an extra $25 is worth the extra content. You may find the game is not for you, in which case only $7.50 and not $57.50

Edit: premium could be had for less than $25 at one stage.

        • Where should I be looking if I'm waiting for premium to be $25 again

      • +7

Close Quarters is COD-style rubbish and both it and Back to Karkand have virtually no servers left. You may find one or two on a prime-time Friday night but that's about it.

Even Armored Fury's numbers have dropped off sharply and it's only been out for a month roughly.
Armored Fury is by far the best DLC to date.

In any case, as someone who's clocked up 75 hours in BF3, you're not really missing out on a whole hell of a lot by sticking to vanilla BF3.

Some better weapons; but everything else is a just a bunch of gimmicks. Dogtags, a new knife, double XP, etc…

The vanilla maps are still the most popular (Caspian, Kharg, Firestorm and… sigh Metro).

        • Haha I share the same feelings on Metro

        • that's good to hear =)

Most processors running XP wouldn't even be able to launch the game even if they were running Vista/Win7 so even if XP was supported you wouldn't be able to play unless you've upgraded your system recently.

      • -8

        Right… so a Core 2 Quad couldn't run Battlefield 3?

        • +7

I never said all xp era processors wouldn't be able to run it, I said most systems running xp wouldn't be able to run it.

I actually used to have a core 2 quad system that struggled with bf3 multiplayer so no, not all core 2 quad processors can run bf3.

        • -6

Well, 1) XP was still sold up until 2010, and 2) Anyone who bought a PC before Windows 7 came out (say, up until the mid point of 2009), and chose Vista over XP is a moron. Anyone who DID choose XP, however, could very well have even been using an i7 as they were available at the time.

        • +4

XP was discontinued on new systems in 2007-2008 actually and I will repeat myself once again by saying not all but most xp processors wouldn't be able to run the game.

    • +10

XP is more than 11 years old, its been proceeded be 3 new versions, with at least one of them being hugely supported by most all software vendors so there is not much reason to not upgrade. Heck worst case buy a large drive and dual-boot, its simple.

There really is no legitimate reason to waste time and resources making this compatible with XP when its nearing a legacy status.

    • +9

Can you seriously stop polluting computing/gaming-related bargains with your XP worship?

No one cares. Not one fck was given.

Sit in your dungeon and kindly play on your legacy system from a decade ago and leave us civilized folks alone.

        • I don't know about anyone else, but I'm pretty happy with having spent $100 on an operating system that is compatible with 99% of software on the market, and not having to come into an Ozbargain post sooking about a game not working on my 11 year old OS.

        • -1

Just wait another 6 months and then you'll start seeing "Windows 8 only" software appearing.

        • The amount of "Windows 8 only" games/applications in 6 months will be minuscule. Can you imagine spending your thousands/millions of dollars on a piece of software and then restricting it only to users of a 6 month old OS? XP is not a bad OS - it's just not well supported due to its age (it's borderline end-of-life, for crying out loud) and it boggles my mind that you don't seem to understand or accept this.

    • +7

Mate, nobody cares that you run a legacy OS. Just sit in your little shrine to yourself and bask in your warm glow, but don't tell us about it, we're running recent OS, and we don't care about XP any more than we care about your HQ Holden.

      • -3

XP is not legacy. Legacy would be Windows 98 or 2000. How can an OS that until last month was the most widely used OS in the world, and is still supported by MS until April 2014, be legacy?

        • +2

          Seriously, learn the English Language.

Legacy - Denoting software or hardware that has been superseded but is difficult to replace because of its wide use.

Emphasise on wide use, the very definition of legacy.

No elaboration is needed to convey that XP has been truly and wholly replaced by Windows 7, so please keep up and at least dual-boot and stop whining.

        • MrZ yes it is widely used BUT some guy in management looked the cost benefit and figured the a% of people of people who run XP as their potential gaming pc of which b% actually want to play battlefield 3 and c% who comps can simply was not worth the time and money into making xp compatible. No one is saying XP sucks just that you in a minority and simply not worth worrying about. As a sidenote, out of this (small) sample of people on ozbargain, you are the only (maybe a few more who are quiet) person who cares.

      • -5

Oh and guess what? In a few weeks time, you'll be using a legacy OS too (assuming you aren't running Win8 at present).

  • Thanks OP.

  • Thanks OP it worked for me

  • Damn, good deal.

  • Would've loved to buy it but then saw that you need Origin to activate it and that kinda kills it for me.

    • +4

Seriously, Origin is not a big deal.

  • Expect a surge in hackers once this deal goes live.

  • how do i download for mac ?

    • oh ok..i see.. PC only :(

    • +4

8 negative votes too… you won there.

  • +1

    thanks awesome deal!

  • +1

Was so tempted to buy it for $20 the other day but this is it!

  • thanks! great price!

  • -1

Looking forward to the inrush of "Pizza Hut noobs" ;-)

    • -1

Indeed, more people unaware and easy to knife.

  • +1

Thanks mate. Don't know why it says "starts in 3 days" though because I was able to purchase it with the coupon just now.

  • Anyone know if this will run on the latest version of WINE?

    • Unlikely as it needs EAs Origin to play =(
I have this issue with FIFA13 and have to play it on my gaming Pc (winblows only)

    • +1

Good chance it wont, and even if it does wine performance is usually well below that of native support…

Best chance is to dual-boot, or even triboot/quadboot. Right now I run Ubuntu, CentOS, Win7 & winXP. This gives me the best versatility for services and applications.

  • God they make it hard to actually just play the game, freaking EA.

  • Currently unavailable
We don't know when or if this item will be available again.

    :(

  • Deal is over :(

  • WHY OVER ALREADY :( IT'S JUST A DOWNLOAD !

    • Run out of keys..?

      • it was a one day promotion. today it's Batman

        • No, they actually ran out of keys.

  • stupid origin doesnt let me open the redeem window

  • This offer only valid till 6th of October 2012 (USA Time), lucky for me bought it this morning. Thanks OP

  • thanks for posting this.. It was a steal! I didn't know about different states getting taxed..but i'll save that one for next time.

    • Try NV (Nevada) next time. My US address got knocked back and then I put in my Aussie one and it worked, so no sales tax and normal address. Very odd but not complaining.
