Excellent printer for the price. Highly recommended

  • What filament brand is the best value? Kingroon?
And would you recommend a filament dryer box?

    • +1

Kingroon, eSun, Sunlu are generally good. Filament dryer box is handy if you're not using the opened spool for a while. you can otherwise also DIY dryer box by purchasing an air tight container and silica gel desiccant

    • +2

I had a terrible time with kingroon but been using sunlu and loving it (on a n3 pro)

eBay sales + buy 6 get 4 free and similar from sunlu works great

      • Good to know, what filaments would you recommend a beginner get? A mix of PLA, PLA+, PLA Meta and PETG?

        • +1

          Start with PLA+

          • +1

@igoforthebest: Pla is fine. PLA+ is great

Petg is amazing if you're willing to deal with managing humidity and stuff

            • +1

@yellowrhino93: Any reason to get PLA over + other than it being $1/kg cheaper?
I'll probably get a roll of petg just to test, will get a dryer box so shouldn't be a problem.
When do you use Petg over PLA?

              • +2

@ozlurker: Petg for more flexibility and has better UV resistance

I use Petg for things I'll use outside etc PLA for most other stuff but all depends on what you'll be printing

  • +1

PETG handles higher temperatures, PLA can start to deform on hot days so not ideal for car phone brackets or other higher temperature applications.
It is slightly different to print but still easy to get good results.

  • Would you recommend this for kids? Or is there too much of a learning curve? By kids, I mean 12 year olds.

    • +2

Depends on your kids. My 12 year old loves 3d printing, troubleshooting, model design, printer modding - it's a great STEM activity and tool. I have/continue to provide assistance when required, but he can run any one of my 5 machines independently, switch filaments, dice models and orient then for print, etc. This is good and bad - good he's learning, but bad as my printers are often occupied and we burn through Flamengo like crazy (have used 5kg of PETG in the past week).

      • Thanks. I think my son would enjoy it, but you raise a good point - I think the cost of filament could be an issue.

        • +1

Honestly printing for fun doesn’t use that much filament, I bought 3 spools when I got my first 3d printer and haven’t finished any year (almost a year now).

Fun models, toys etc are usually small so unless you are printing cosplay armour or want to run a print farm I don’t think the cost of filament will be an issue

  • Can it print TPU well/easily?

    • +1

Looks like it's direct drive so it should be able to handle it reasonably well.

    • +1

Prints TPU very well, especially at this price point.

  • Should it get any cheaper in Black Friday also is it quite easy to use

  • +1

Impulse purchased achieved - Thanks OP/ commentators.
First 3D printer - have been debating for month - This seems as cheap and good enough a place to start as any.

Oh - now i will need filament, Can anyone recommend something cheapish and decent?

  • Would have pulled the trigger but missed out this deal for days ..

    It’s OOS now * cry face *
