Lexar NM790 Gen 4×4 NVMe SSD 4TB + Razer Kaira X for Xbox-Wired Gaming Headset $279 + Delivery @ BPC Tech

210

I am surprised no one has posted this one yet. Sure the ssd is good price but adding the headphones, especially if you are looking for one, seems like makes this one an excellent deal?

These headphones seem to mainly be for XBOX

There is also same deal for $5 more for PS5 with heatsink ssd + headphones but for PS5 (hence the heatsink I think?). Probably great for people who just snapped the $500 PS5-spiderman deal!

Edit:

Just so everyone is aware, the SSD on it's own is also on sale for $4 less, if you really don't want the headphones.

OR this ridiculous 2TB version with Mr.Beast Chocolate (why does Mr.Beast have a chocolate??)

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2023

It seems the headphones are only worth $39~

    • I mean sounds about right? wired headphones that seem to be average. just a good bonus, you can't get the SSD itself cheaper anyway (unless you pick it up in person from Mwave or BPC) so might as well and headphone can be a gift to someone or idk you use it yourself? All deals are subjective after all…

    • Still a good deal, considering the SSD was $255 before price hike (though you did get a free mr beast chocolate)

    Great deal, need a 4TB for PS5.
Waiting for other retailers to match

    • Umm like who? I have been waiting on this SSD for a while, and this is pretty much as low as it went on all the same retailers right now (barring from that one time anomaly from Mwave. If you find any, let me know too please.

It's so awesome to see how cheap gen 4 nvme ssd are getting!

    $279 - Lexar NM790 4TB with FREE Xbox headphones
    $275 - Lexar NM790 4TB

    Misleading advertising!

Clearly they are not free if they are charging us an extra $4 for them.

    • Haha can’t disagree!

On the other hand I really wish they weren’t trying to unload the headphones by bundling them with the SSD…

I’d imagine it would be $20-30 cheaper, which would be closer to all time low and a better Black Friday deal

    • $265.38 https://www.zotim.com.au/product/lexar-lnm790x004t-rn9ng-4tb…

This version has a heatsink. Bought earlier in the week and due to arrive on Monday.

      • Is the heatsink removable? I don't need heatsink however i like this cheaper price.

      • Hi, any update on receiving the SSD from Zotim? Never heard of the store before so holding out until I hear from someone that it's A-OK lol.

  • How does this one compare to the Crucial P5 Plus that's also for sale if I'm after a new game drive for my PS5? If comparing heatsink vs heatsink (and I guess 2TB vs 2TB)?

    • I believe this one but @ChatGPT would probably a better person to ask.

Honestly, either will be fine. I've got a few 4TB NM790's in my NAS, as well as a few Crucial drives. They both have their pros/cons:

The P5 Plus uses Micron 176 layer NAND and their own controller, which is proven / durable - they've been around for about 2 years now.
The NM790 uses YMTC (Yangtze Memory Technologies Co.) 232 layer NAND, which is relatively new to the market and as-yet unproven durability wise. Similarly, the controller comes from a relatively new player (MaxioTech) compared to players like Micron, Phison etc.

The NM790 is DRAM-less and relies on HMB; while the P5 Plus has DRAM. Sequential reads/writes seem to be better on the NM790; some of the random reads/writes are better on the P5 Plus, but overall has a slower sequential read/write. For sustained access (heavy reads/writes), some reviews showed the NM790 to throttle and drop in IO, as well as reads/write speeds quite significantly compared to the P5 Plus, but again, this is a pretty specific use case and I doubt something you'll encounter on a PS5 or even daily use in a PC.

Are you likely to actually notice the difference in a PS5? Probably not. You'd be looking at seconds (if not fractions of a second) difference in things like loading times. Heck, I doubt most people in real life really notice much difference between a Gen3 drive and Gen4 drive - you need pretty specific workloads to really notice the benefits.

The Crucial P5 Plus (no heatsink) can be had for a relative steal for the 2TB at $128ish currently… posted… which is insane. The cheapest I've seen the 2TB NM790 is $145 (+ postage).
