Basically any SSD is going to be a significant upgrade in regular usage over any HDD. However, these seem to have a very poor reputation for reliability. Also it depends on which console we are talking. Anything that supports SATA2 and up is likely to benefit.
Neg - all of my units have died within 12 months
Had a 512GB model die in a week but also another that has been fine for 2 years. Not recommended since its very much a gamble if you get a good one.
You are all downers
Damn guess I'll have to wait for a sale on samsung or something. Wish Crucial didn't discontinue the MX line.
I should bought some MX as spare.
The Lexar NS100 might be an option if you can find one at a decent price. I’m using a 2TB in a UniFi Cliud Key Gen 2 Plus for security camera recordings and it’s been fine thus far. It has 460GB written total and has a DWPD of 460GB so I’m way under that. The drive I purchased cost $115 inc. delivery late December last year. I’m quite glad the SP I bought first wasn’t compatible.
Thanks for the recommendation. I'm just trying to upgrade/update an older PC for my folks so spending $100+ is definitely out of the question. My last resort would've been to buy 2nd hand, although I'm not really thrilled about that idea.
The one I bought was 2TB so the 512GB, for example, is a lot less money.

Disclaimer: I’ve not shopped from this seller so please do your research before buying.
Also wish they hadn't started skimping on quality in the later years of production.
Crucial MX500 - Historically good, recent batches high failure rates - 2022

Past 24 hours have unboxed it and been moving a bunch of games over…
now trying to patch an update via steam and uhh it's not looking so good patch speed keep going from like 10mb/s to like 100mb/s and back down to 10mb/s ??!?!
have it in a external enclosure
had 2 of these die in like 2 months
Literally the only sata ssd I've ever had straight up die on me was one from SP. Granted it was a 128 GB and may have had different guts than this one. But I won't go with SP again
was thinking of getting sata ssd to replace older consoles hdd but not sure if theres any performance benefits
