I don’t feel like any Ozbargain post should start with the words “not the best price…”

he means not the best price ever, this is almost certainly the best price right now and a great one at that.

      • With Aus dollar in the dumps… it probably is the best USD/Euro price ever

  • I bought my HD800 S around 2017 and I was lucky enough to know someone that could get it at 'cost' price. I paid $1500 on the dot and was told by the shop owner it was sourced from that they made $0 on it. Perhaps the margins have changed on the product since then, and there's more in it on the other side, but it'd be very hard to get it any cheaper. Yes, there was the student discount promo a few months ago for $1439.10 but not everyone has a student concession card (and of course it's expired).

  • whats the sound quality like on these compared to other open back headphones?

whats the sound quality like on these

      It sounds OK.

    • I have them, they are very clinical, like a microscope for your audio gear and source. Won't be selling them, but they are my least used cans. I mostly use Radiance and Maxwell's ATM.

    • basically if you want accurate, not colored, sound, this is about the pinnacle. the problems with the 800s are you are only going to use them using your computer or whatever and you also need equipment to run them compared to lower ohm headphones.
if you want good flat sound in headphones and you dont want to pay the bank current options are ath-m50x, dt 770 pro, and the x2hr/00. the x2hr is closed back instead of semi. the 770 pro is just kinda bass heavy. all of these you could conceivably use with your phone, but the m50x's are definitely the best. the other choices are more expensive planar magnetic headphones and the hd 600 s, which isnt placed well in terms of value to features imo. having hifiman planar magnetics may feel very nice but having a large amount of noise leakage does make them awkward to use.
