  • Nice find
Sapphire glass on $400 watch from Seiko!!!
Anyone have experience buying from this store?

    • +4

      It's Shiels bro

      • Sorry
Couldn't edit since you replied by the time Ì finished typing
They have physical stores in all states except VIC and NT

        • +3

          Sorry mate, I didn't know.

          Pros:
I've probably bought 50 watches from them with no issues
          They sometimes have great prices
They send you cool vouchers a few times a year e.g. $150 off $500

          Cons:
          They're slow to ship
Sometimes, with high demand watches, they have inventory control issues
Always check their sister company Watch Depot because they're often cheaper

        • … and TAS … :(

    • Sapphire glass on $400 watch from Seiko!!!

I don't get why they can't just use sapphire on all their watches. If a $70 Steeldive can have sapphire, why can't a $250+ Seiko?

      • Probably because the AliExpress companies save money ripping off everyone else's designs and have mass production sweat shops.

The Chinese sapphire probably isn't quite as good but does the job just fine.

I know what you mean though, Seiko need to keep the better specs for their more expensive offerings. Hardly competitive these days but for half of RRP it's fine

To me, personally, a 'dress' watch should not have day/date window.

    • Good luck with that; most have at least a date complication. I personally prefer a clean dial with no day/date but they're increasing hard to find

    • +1

Depends on the style - Field watches should be clean and can wind and set them fast.

Agree that most dress watches have a date at least - look at the Citizen Cronomaster, beautiful watch.
I'm not too partial to a day complication, especially on mechanical - tedious and takes longer to set; solar not so much of an issue :).

Good find! hmmm. Don't think I'd wear a dress watch that often but looks nice. Worth looking at some videos, the front (bezel) is polished by the looks of it.
Looks like Watch Direct had it for $249 + extra 15% off sitewide but sold out.

      • That is a cracker.. OZB missed out

    Thanks @rosebank…

My Casio order from your previous post just arrived last week… and now I saw this… To buy… or not to buy…

    • The moonphase?

I think this is a nice looking watch; the dark green sunburst dial works with the gold. Only thing I don't like is the white 'solar', but I don't think you can find a similar dress watch with these specs for this price. Personally I'm not buying because I rarely wear dress watches.

      • Yes, and Casio Edifice EFR552D-1A as well. Bought these two after years wearing smart watch. Tempted to get this one but I my better half seems not giving me the green signal this time :D

why have they added sapphire to the ugliest watch but won't add it to their beautiful watches LOL

    • I've noticed a few of these 'conceptual' Seikos lately (like the SSB421P I posted; and returned) that are more budget friendly with sapphire. Perhaps it's a new thing.
Agree though, the Presage range should definitely have sapphire given they are dress watches (with an RRP over $600).

Also from Shiels $224 with code https://www.shiels.com.au/products/seiko-prospex-sne547p-sol…

It's been cheaper at $199 but it has sold out from Starbuy so that deal ain't coming back.

    • Grabbed that one with a $60 off $250 voucher, just went into a store that time.
      Recommended!

  • Is it worth having Solar on dress watch?
Wouldn't you usually have a long sleeve that will block the sun from charging?
Just asking, considering this for myself

    • +2

When fully charged, most solars have a power reserve of about 6 months

    • +1

Yeah not an issue, just leave on window sill every so often, yet to see any of mine go flat and the manual says 8-10 months when charged.
