  • Very good reviews
    Speed may be misleading

    Looks good for 150

  • What would be the best RC for a 6yr olds first car.. around the $50 mark?

    • +1

I got this for my 6 year old for Christmas, I really hope he doesn't run it into his little brother, lol. I kinda got it for me also, last RC car i had was around 25 years ago.

I am worried about him being too careless and writing off a $150 present by driving it over an edge. Wow it can fly dad!!

        • +5

That will create one of his fondest memories :)

I got an one from AliExpress for my 5yr old for Christmas, was only $60. It is a brushed motor but everything else seems similar, there is also throttle trim on the remote so you can turn down the max speed.

you might be looking for something else, but on the recommendations from this previous post, I got the slower crawler that was reviewed here, for my 8y old's birthday.

He has trouble controlling the cheap remote control cars at speed (maybe because of the cheap controllers) so asked to get something that moves slowly, but can drive anywhere through the park and garden.

Since it moves quite slowly, my wife is happy for him to use it in the house as well as there is no risk of running into the wall or furniture at high speeds and damaging stuff.

I ended up paying about $90 for an assembled model with battery, shipped from an aussie hobby store. You can buy cheaper ones, but they seem to be a kit you need to make and often don't include a battery too, so read the description carefully.

    • Get it delivered to pickup location, then open it up say you found it on side of road or opshop cheap.

Tempting but my local hobby shop doesn’t sell parts for these 😕

If you want one that's virtually indestructible and proven to be (from the reviews & my personal experience, I've jumped mine off a set of stairs where it rolls/tumbles down it, my kids have bashed it as they're still learning how to drive it, etc), the HBX 16889A Pro is the one. Same specs as above, similar pricing, but parts (if they do ended up breaking) are plentiful and available. Check out quaddifyrc review.

    • Sounds good. Best place to buy this? The standard, non-A, non-pro one is $145 currently, what's the difference?

      https://www.amazon.com.au/HAIBOXING-Remote-Control-Car-16889…

      • @highon2str Pro version $135 with 3 batteries with eBay plus. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/275187271795?var=575461217690&_t…

        • The 2 battery option seems like great value at $101, with the BF20AU code.
But isn't this a different model & maybe not comparable? No mention of HAIBOXING 16889 & the brand is listed as HBX. Though I might be missing something, I can't even see where the model # is listed.

          • @BlueMM: Model number is in the pictures I'm sure HBX is just what brand that supplier has it branded as..
One of the reviews even says cheaper than bangood

            • @Bertus: Im seeing 170 with 15 postage. Did i miss the deal

      • The non pro have the plastic drive line, brushed motor, and non-oil filled shocks from memory. Still capable in its own, but the metal drive line and oil filled shocks on the pro just makes it so much better.
There's one on sale on AliExpress for $137.95 before GST for 1 battery, or $145.31 before GST for 2 battery free shipping. They usually go on sale every so often on AliExpress or even eBay seller from Au.

    • thanks for the recommend..
I'm looking for one to run around the local dog park..tumbles/bite marks expected.. parts availability is a must

  • i have a similar one of the same brand i purchased because i thought my dogs might like it. one likes to chase it, the other likes to grab it and give it the death shakes and try to tear the thing apart.

surprisingly it has survived multiple death shake encounters. these are surprisingly good devices and put up with a pounding.

  • Stick with the prescribed battery and motor for longevity, as the diffs need changing after a few runs

    • Which diff should be ordered for this one?
