    Which Gift card are these??

    • +1

      Mitre 10

    • +1

Fair question… clear, unambiguous wording for the title would have been “20% Off Mitre 10 Gift Cards”

  • Can they be redeemed in a non participating store?

    • I don't see a restriction in the terms and conditions only where you can buy the cards from.

    • +2

Marrickville store is also referred to as Macksville so a bit of typo/error on their posting

  • Is this better than trade price?

    • +3

There is no trade prices on gift cards

  • business might be under stress to give up 20% discount on their own gift card … !!!

    • +6

20% is big for a gift card - I expect a lot of gift card sales this weekend.

      • that is what i said but someone without any understanding on why this big discount comes out negged… lol 😂

        • +6

I wouldn't pay much attention to a completely different market (NZ), it's like comparing Bunnings failed venture in the UK to a sign the company is going bust in Australia.
Mitre 10 is owned by Metcash, these were the latest results

"Metcash’s food business achieved a modest EBIT growth of 3.8% for the year, falling behind the rate of inflation and cost increases for most grocery, meat, and fresh produce items. In contrast, the liquor business reported an 8.9% increase in EBIT, while the hardware group (including Mitre 10, Home Hardware, True Value, IHG, Total Tools, and Thriftylink) saw a substantial 16.8% rise in EBIT."
          https://www.sharecafe.com.au/2023/06/26/metcash-rally-fades-…

I don't really read those results and see a company about to go belly up.

      • +1

They are separate to the Aus business though ? In Australia its owned by Metcash, who also own Total Tools etc

        https://www.metcash.com/our-businesses/hardware/

      • The loss reported here was mainly due to spending to overhaul their IT systems. I wouldn't think a company who was struggling would invest that sort of money in their backend unless they were confident of seeing positive returns on that investment over the next 3-5 years.

    • -1

      Is it?
How is it any different to just offering a 20% store wide promotion, if anything it's better than a 20% off store wide for the business because this way they can gamble on people spending more than the value of the gift card which would lessen the discount.

      • +6

Giftcards allow the buyer to stack with store wide discounts.

      • Normally gift card expires in 3 years, and is there is any further discount, you can paid with the discounted gift card. e.g. 20% gift card with 10% off = 28% off, 20% gift card with 20% off = 36% off, which is a very high discount and the price after discount may lower than the cost.

    • -2

I agree with you SydBoy - a lot of these Mitre 10 businesses are "small" businesses, and this kind of promotion only gives an influx of immediate cashflow, but with subsequent reduction in profitability.

    • +2

The Sporting Globe had the same deal recently.
Many people (not Ozbargainers) don't redeem their gift cards so they are probably relying on that.

      • Thanks for that mention, I didn't see that before!
Not expired, I just bought one.
Will start redeeming it today for 1/2 price ribs :-) And tomorrow for 1/2 price steaks :-)

  • +3

    Possibly important condition:

"Discounted gift cards cannot be redeemed on the same day of purchase"

    • yeah not sure why but not the worst terms and conditions

    • +1

So we should expect some sad news on the 4th of December….

      • :O)

  • -3

Don't think I'll ever buy anything from mitre10 again … Had a bad experience at the Liverpool shop.. will definitely not be back. I'll just stick to Bunnings

    • +7

Sorry to hear ….. I will win you back one day :0)

    • +7

I have found Bunnings to be universally ordinary, some 16 yr old that's pleasant but useless. Usually I find Mitre 10 staff gruff but knowledgeable which is what I need when I need to know what TPR valve I need for my HWS

      • +13

I wouldn't call myself gruff … more handsome only a mother would love :O)

  • +1

What is the maximum number of physical gift cards that can be used for an online purchase? Egift cards have a maximum apparently of one per online order.

    • +3

I just sent an email to the ecommerce side of things, I'll let you know when they reply.

      • Did you get a response for this? And are the gift cards variable or fixed balance?

        • No but we are having a team meeting tomorrow afternoon and I'll ask. If I don't get a reply by then.

        • +1

Hey, just jumping in here. At the moment physical gift cards can't be redeemed online. They are managed by a provider we haven't integrated with yet. For eGift Cards we recently updated our online checkout to allow multiple eGift Card redemptions. Updated the FAQs on the site to reflect this.

    • Physical cards can't be used online only in store.

  • +1

This post should serve double duty as a PSA that Mitre 10 stores still exist in Australia. I honestly cannot recall the last time I saw one

    • They are usually in smaller rural towns that don’t justify a massive Bunnings warehouse.
They are also usually staffed with much more knowledgeable people than I tend to encounter at bunnings.

  • Is there any way to find out what the prices are for Stihl products at Stihl dealers without going in store?

  • Do you sell other gift cards or just Mitre 10?

  • Just Mitre 10

  • Pretty good deal. I'm thinking about getting a $1000 card just to spend throughout the year on whatever comes up. Mitre 10 is one of my locals, so I'll be buying stuff from them anyway as I already do.

  • +2

Great offer for those who live close to a store and if I was one of those, I'd be buying myself a $1000 card, but the problem for me is I have to drive past 2 huge Bunnings stores before I reach the mid-size trade focused Mitre 10 which closes early on weeknights and is closed on Sundays. The lack of convenience kills the deal for me.

  • The stores are not organized in states, can we know if this applies to all states?

    • +1

Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Cockroaches (NSW), Western Australia, Northern Territory all covered don't see ACt there.

    • Have fixed this up for you, hope it helps.
      https://www.mitre10.com.au/legal/local-promotions

      • Thank you, is there going to be a stock issue for gift cards? These are physical cards I assume.

        • Yep, the promotion is for physical gift cards in stores. Participating stores have prepared for the promotion so should be well stocked with cards.

    • +1

      only at specsavers

    • Mitre 10 only

  • @Old Citym10
Any idea when Reynella stopped being a Flinders? Since moving house it's less convenient to go there
    .

    • No sorry I don't recall

  • Hey OP, so these gift cards are only available in that list of stores, but we can use it at any Mitre10 store or only at participating ones?

Also, is there a limit of how much we can buy?

    • Yes you can use them at any store and the limit is per customer at $1000

      • Thanks, will drive 40kms to the nearest one. Need to get a lawnmower among other things

        • Thank you.

  • @mitre10official This promotion is likely going to lead to more gift cards being used in stores for the next little while - is it possible to alert all stores beforehand (such as via a staff memo) to remind them how to redeem physical gift cards, and particularly multiple gift cards in a transaction? I've had previous experience where staff were unfortunately not trained in redeeming Mitre 10 gift cards. Not a common experience too, according to this example

    • +1

We do regular updates to stores with big promotions like this, stores participating are really looking forward to it.

  • +1

Have the stores participating in the promotion stocked up? Do we expect it to be sold out quickly or is it realistic to hope stock would still be available by the afternoon?

  • dude this is huge. i spend thousands on bunnings or similar a month

    • Yeah it's pretty great, my local (not part of this promo) are a weber specialist dealer and sell Stihl too, you can never get 20% off that stuff. Might have to drive to the nearest participating store to get the gift cards though

  • anything decent to buy that everyone will use from Mitre 10?

    • +1

      Mitre 10 Gift Card.

      • bahahahaha

  • +1

    Will all support them
else we end up with sort of a monopoly!

  • How do their prices compare with Bunnings generally?

    • Bunnings is always expensive so probably more than Bunnings

Bunnings only good for specials or clearance items or price matching

    • They will match. I have only been knocked back on one item as staff said it was below cost, even though I was buying a bunch of stuff.
      .

  • only one store in metro WA

  • How are mitre10 prices compared to Bunnings? Never shopped at Mitre10

  • Worth noting that you can use these to get discounts on Milwaukee, Kings, Makita etc. AKA brands that basically never go on an actual meaningful sale.

  • Just to confirm. Many items only available online and need to be delivered to a Mitre10 store for click and collect. Is that means there's no point getting these gift cards if the items I want to purchase is not readily available in store?

    • You are correct. These gift cards are no use for you if you intend to make online purchases.

    • I'm sure you could order in-store and use your gift card

  • @mitre10official will these still be on sale instore tomorrow? Just checking as it says until the 3rd, and I cant get there today thanks to the weather!

  • +1

Pretty slow experience at the Jeay Sandgate store.

When I went in, there was no advertising for the promo, and when I asked, the kid behind the counter pulled out a laminated sheet from under the counter with the promo details. Few other young looking staff standing around. Sounded like they hadn’t sold any for a long time.

Waited about half an hour for them to figure out how to process it as they didn’t know how to do it properly (something about having to refund the balance to a gift card and they reached their max limit for refunds for the day). Ended up giving me multiple smaller amounts

Just hope they don’t take as long or have issues when spending it in store @mitre10official

Sucks about the 3 year expiry too compared to Bunnings no expiry

    • yeah pretty much the same experience at another store. It was woeful. Then I have to call the 1300 number to see if it's been activated, because he wasn't sure himself.

  • -1

Most stores dont carry / hold any descent stock so too much of a gamble for me
    in particular mower kit combos.
lucky to have 1 makita elec mower availble to purchase.

the terms & Conditions say that it can be used online. but however reading above you cant use it online, mitre10 store didnt know when asked.

    dodged a bullet.

  • +2

Thanks guys 3 day promo went extremely well. Some small hiccups but overall it was great.
