Stack with CR cashback for extra 8% off. https://www.cashrewards.com.au/store/bing-lee for roughly another $32 off bringing it down to $413.
Everywhere else has it for $499 right now as part of Cyber monday so this is the current best price. ( I already checked Binglee eBay as well, only $20 off there).

I had some trouble finding price history on this on ozbargain deals but here is the Amazon price history https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B0BSXHCJNQ.

all time low on the Boombox 2 was $379 C&C or + $6 delivery - in May 2023 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/775111

as probably mentioned before somewhere, the JBL is expensive but it's class leading in performance. The Boombox 3 is the first of it's version's to have a full 3 way design with one oval 7.4 x 4.5" (189 x 114mm) Woofer, two 3.2 x 3.2" (80.9 x 80.9mm) Midrange and two (0.8" / 20mm) Tweeters.

  • I want the features and sound quality of this, but I want it to look like a Lasonic TRC-931 - not some kind of cloth-covered pickle.
JBL could even dig one of their own designs out of the past to modernize eg RC-M90. I'd buy one.
Am I so out of touch?

I dunno closest in looks to that you mention is probably one of the JVC boom blasters. https://eu.jvc.com/audio/boomblaster/RV-NB300DAB/
      https://www.amazon.com.au/JVC-RV-NB300DAB-Boomblaster/dp/B08…

but even they couldn't escape the RGB fest seen on some modern bluetooth speakers. 😂

I saw older Boomblaster models in Brisbane at JB HiFi years ago. they didn't have RGB back then and they looked good (a bit more butch and thicker than the tube it looks like now). but looks like they aren't selling in Australia anymore. maybe you can find one if you look harder than I did.

just be aware that these Boomblasters are built on older parts and designs, so typically have high distortion compared to modern BT speakers which will sound a lot cleaner much better overall.

    • hey I randomly got recommended this and wanted to share just for fun. I guess the identifiers and algorithms are doing their thing.

this one was also recommended to me at the top of the page I linked above, good reviews so probably sounds better than the Bumpboxx but coming from Amazon US means it will come with a US plug power adapter.

Navy blue looks the best IMO but red is the cheapest https://www.amazon.com.au/Waterproof-Bluetooth-Portable-Wire…

looks like there is a market for a "modern bluetooth Boombox".
I looked up Bumpboxx and looks like there is an AU site which shows a bunch of them on sale for half price. I think the one I linked above was $299.
reading into feedback though things didn't sound so good. people mention weird stuff such as a constant beeping noise coming out of the speakers when nothing is playing. another user said it's likely interference due to poor design/cheap parts.
others saying the speaker just gave up and won't turn on and customer support does not respond.

I dunno I guess if you are really into it and don't mind quality issues it could be a $299 present to yourself for the holidays. 😅
