this is more speaker for less money than the JBL Boombox 3 deal. but the Sony's are much less portable.

$349 is the lowest price I have seen so far for the XP500. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B09YXH4DBS
Currently $444~449 everywhere else.

XP700 has been $399 before in July. https://au.camelcamelcamel.com/product/B09YXH5L32

Sony's biggest models are battery powered (same can't be said for the Large JBL Party speakers). they also support LDAC and have a single mic input for karaoke.

in a Sony vs Soundbokz vs JBL comparison. the Sony and JBL quite obviously had deep extending bass, while the Soundbokz (biggest one they have) lacked deep bass. I think Soundbokz get's louder though so that's just how it's designed. Edit: Soundbokz also has swappable battery packs and better battery life than the JBL and Sony.

I recommend the XP500. why? when you get to this kind of size, the less weight the better. XP500 is 11kg, while XP700 is 17kg.
the smaller XP500 also not only has the handle, but it has built in wheels making it easier to move around if you need to. -google images was showing me the wrong image.
XP700 has an extra 5 hours battery estimate over the XP500. both are IPX4 splash proof.

XP500 Speaker size: Tweeter 5cm x 2, woofer 14cm (5.5") x 2
XP700 Speaker size: Tweeter front 6cm x 3 rear 5cm x 1, woofer 17cm (6.7") x 2

*battery life depends on volume level.

I want one, but don't need one.

    • to be honest if you are listening indoors one size down and more portable is enough. e.g. JBL Boombox 3 size. others would be UE Hyperboom (for clear), Skullcandy Barrel (for bass) etc.

I don't recommend the Sony XG300 I listened to it in store didn't sound very good. if you are on a budget Soundcore Motion Boom Plus for $150 sounds good. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/778479

  • My mate owns the XP500, it's very boomy but it's great for house parties.
He has a tablet arm at that clamps onto the handle on the speaker.
Makes for a nice setup for music.

      "it's great for house parties."

yeah maybe that's why they made it splash proof lol.

  • I ordered the SRS-XG300. Loved the aeasthetics, portability and the extra features it offers.

  • I apologise.

when looking up photos yesterday, I swear I was staring at more than one photo of the XP500 having wheels at the back corner. but now every image I am looking at shows it without wheels like the XP700. not sure why, maybe the google image I was looking at stated "XP500" but showed the XV800 in the picture which does have wheels.
