  • 1.73kg is not really an 'ultrabook'. The Toshiba z930 that The Lovely had me buy a couple of weeks back - now THAT is an ultrabook. 1.17kg - i.e., about the weight of an iPad with a 'MarWare' smart-cover. 6 giga-kerjiggers, SSD, und zo on, und zo force.

    The Lovely can carry her z930 in her handbag without developing Barrister's Trapezius (a syndrome I just made up to drop a hint as to what she does for a job [yes, I'm proud, and no mistake]).

    She's so fond of it, she won't even let me use it on the dunny (now that's saying something: the PooPad - and every device we have ever bought, is 'open slather' for my poo-chute-related japes… but not the ultrabook).

    And that, if it please the court, is prima facie evidence that it is held in high regard by my learned Lovely (as tough a judge as every put on a silly wig).

    probably a good thing you cant use it in the dunny. you would mistake it for the bog paper due to being so thing and wipe your arse with it

    not a bargain. Umart has the acer m3 581tg ultra book for $799 with acer $149 cash back your paying $650 for a i7 15.6" 500GB+20GB SSD with Geforce GT640M graphics card. centercom did a deal last week with 6gb extra ram for $25 extra. http://umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=67&…

      Hardly the same thing at all, and before you flame, you should consider the following;

      1. We have this IN STOCK, according the umart website has NO STOCK of that product you referred to (pre-order only).

      2. No Freight added in your pricing comparison & umart charges credit card fees, we're not charging for either on this deal (for VISA or MC).

      3. This is NOT a rebate, from my experience these take a while to process - and I generally avoid myself (Just out of interest have you got yours refunded yet?)

      4. This already has 8GB of RAM, so no need to 'deal' as you call it - or install any cheap aftermarket RAM in your brand new unit. *Also, unlikely to be able to put '6gb extra ram' in that unit - because 6GB is the maximum that unit supports according to the Acer Specifications.

      5. Toshiba Warranty involves a list of local walk-in Authorised Service Providers in your area or Courier Pickup from your door to your local ASP, average repair approx 3 days. Acer Warranty is RTB, (or if you contact Acer directly; Pickup/Repair/Return via Sydney and you have to take it to, and collect it from your nearest Post Office) average turn around in our experience is 3 weeks.

      6. That unit is 4KG (according to Umart website, although I believe the true weight is more like 2.25KG), this Toshiba is 1.73KG. IMO this is a better unit for anyone who travels a lot and is looking for portability.

      Also, I bought some bananas last week for $1.99/kg - but that doesn't make this any less of a deal either.

  • This is not a bad deal for a 14inch ultrabook in my estimation, especially if your not a 'power' user. Toshiba is generally pretty reliable brand too.

    Shame no dedicated SSD:(
