JB Hi-Fi: WD 2TB USB 2 Green External HDD $99 (Free Shipping) + Other Deals

140

From today's paper and on the front page of their website:

$99 for an external vanilla HDD seems a good deal if you're in the market for some extra space. Cheapest on StaticIce (excl shipping) is $115.

Note that at time of posting, the "buy online" direct link still says cost is $125!

EDIT: Link now says $99.

Model is: WDBAAU0020HBK-AESN - 2TB, (only) USB 2.0, looks like external (not USB) powered, and is a 'green' drive.

Some other deals on the same newspaper spread (which I haven't checked to see if they're deals or not) - you decide:

  • Soniq 32" LED LCD TV - $298
  • HP 15" i5 Lappy (G6-2125TX) - $635.20
  • HP 15" i7 Lappy (G6-2148TX) - $718.40
  • HP 15" i7 Lappy (M6-1009TX) - $793.60
  • HP 13" i7 Ultrabook (13-2005TU) - $1358.40

Plus there's a selection of 2-for-$20 Blu-rays

  • $49.50 per TB price-breakthrough, yay. Only it's Usb2.

..Still with @ only 2.0tb this probably doesn't matter.

  • Says its expired

  • Free delivery on the 2TB HDD :)

However, I think I might wait it out, I have a feeling that HDD's are going to plummet in price coming up to Christmas. Especially now that Thailand is recovering from the floods.

    • +2

It would be nice. I bought 3x2TB greens int. at $69/79 just before the market soared and I feel we are yet to properly recovery (due to WD and Seagate milking it).

  • Cool, been waiting for this H/D price to drop for a while. Good time to get one or two. Is this available online only or can you pick them up at a store?

    • The OP originally saw the ad in the paper, so it should be in store as well.

      • Cool, will pick one up at a store. Thanks

        • Yep - just click "store collect" and where you'd like to pick it up!

    • But thats a HP. The same WD drive is selling for $119 at OW.

      • I did think about suggesting an OW price match + 5%, but availability at most OW stores was low, and the last thing I'd want to do is waste $10 of fuel to save $5 on the price.

Plus all the hassle - arrghh, the hassle…

  • Cool. Been waiting for a better price on these to add fourth drive to my NAS.

    • Just beware that these are the 'green' drives, so they'll spin down if they're not being accessed.

      That isn't a good thing for a NAS…

  • I thik this is better value as it is USB3.0
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/80348

    • Yeah its a shame to get a USB2.0 now, people use these drives for ages and media files etc become bigger and bigger by the day as quality increases. The performance difference between USB 2 & 3 is not incremental, its exponential(gees that sentence actually sounds smartish:P.)

Much better idea to spend a bit more and get a USB 3.0 drive even if your current PC/laptop doesn't support it. You'll probably end up upgrading your PC long before you think of upgrading the drive.

    • I did buy the Officeworks HP, although, exponential would tend to describe an order of magnitude difference. If this were experienced then USB 3 would push 0.5GB/sec and I'd be astonished. The reality of Hard Drives ceasing at 2-3 TB storage point these past couple of years, sets in, makes such ideals - maxed '3.0 '5'Gbps - seem rather diminutive, being quite in that far distance.

  • Last I checked, JB Hi-Fi has plenty of stock. Checked with (all in Sydney) World Square, Moore Park and Top Ryde stores.
