Any Way to Remove The Floating ShopBack Thing on The Side? (ShopBack Browser Extension)

Hey all

Im finding the floating shopback thing on firefox somewhat annoying and obtrusive. I am just wondering if there is any way to remove it from view as I do not need both that and the extension in my taskbar? I would have contacted shopback directly however I canot even find a way to email or contact support however I know I probably should have waited until Monday.

All the popups are annoying as well, especially with aliexpress given how many pop ups I get every time I go there as well. I really just want the extension to sit in my taskbar and not always get in my face. Am I the only one?

Urgh + 1 to this too.
It's coming up even on twitch now too…

If you hit the cogwheel on it, you can "Pause voucher notifications for 12 hours", but not forever :|

    • Thanks for the reply, glad to see im not the only one. If you check the screenshot I posted from aliexpress there isn't even a setting cog to change anything there although I will play around with the settings (on another site like twitch) and see what I can get it to do. Cheers!

I got mine removed permanently but I forgot how I did it or maybe it was luck.

But now I have to manually activate shopback manually if I buy something online.

Maybe disable shopback then manually activate the app when purchasing?

    I'm using Chrome.

  • I don't have that, so it must be part of the shopback extension.

Have a look through settings and see if it is configurable.

    • It might block your cashback too

    • i do use ublock however it is disabled on websites I use with cashback, as FireRunner mentioned I think it has blocked my cashbacks a few times but I did actually try to enable it and block the shopback button thing although it didn't work as I believe it's not a website, rather a browser thing.

  • Try using the freeware "Hijack This"
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/hjt/
Amazing what you can find lurking on your PC
    BUT exercise caution when using

  • Yup super annoying. Only way I could remove it was to disable the shopback extension.

  • @gotyourback - Could be a good idea to take this to the ShopBack internal team so they can improve the ShopBack extension (Commenters seem to agree with OP)

    • Cheers for the tag!

      • please get rid of this adware malware immediately. i don't want to use shopback again

  • Yes and never pay in AUD with Ali you will lose money

Hey mates, cheers for the feedback here! I've passed it to the team who take care of our extension so that this can be looked into.

    • Thanks for that, ive always liked the drop down alerts when opening a website, it's just the floating thing was getting in the way of me clicking something the other day and couldn't move/remove it at all so figured i'd post about it :)

No, totally fair! I've spoken to the team who have let me know there is an option to mute this button in the settings for the extension, however it's a little bit buried so the feedback piece is to make it easier to access on the button itself so that users can mute it there and then if they like. The team is working on this so it should be part of the next update :) Thanks heaps for flagging!

        • Any update for this? Quite annoying. I have to disable the extension and only enable it until I remember.

@arst: if it was draggable, ok, but would rather the option to turn the floating button off completely. there a button in the extension pane i can click, this is just annoying… ugh

        • I have searched the whole shopback screen and button and i can't dig any deeper. I would say there is no way to remove this button.
I'm happy for you to give instructions. Because this floating thing is a real pain. It gets in the way, simple as that.
Thanks in advance for providing the deep buried pathway to remove this button.

Hey there, any update on this?
I'm considering to even remove the extension completely because of how distracting the floating bit is.

          • @e8s5: I totally understand how frustrating this can be, and I really appreciate your patience! ๐Ÿ™

Yes, you can temporarily hide the floating components for 12 hours. Just click the gear icon in the Popup Menu and select "Pause Alerts for 12 hours"โ€”this will give you some relief from the distractions! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Iโ€™m so sorry itโ€™s taken this long to get back to you, but weโ€™re always working to improve, and your feedback means a lot! Let me know if that works, or if you need any further help! ๐Ÿ’™

            • @gotyourback: Thank you so much!! That definitely helps ๐Ÿ˜

            • @gotyourback: If you wanted more feedback, I have disabled the extension completely. Did Shopback do any user testing before rolling this out?12 hours is not ok, particularly when it shows up on the disney plus site..

@everyone: It's bigger than ever now wtf?

              • @everyone: Yeah I'm disabling it too, it's infuriating because on every website I visit I have to accept cookies, then shut down their annoying popups AND then the floating shopback thing gets in the way. I don't want to mute it for 12 hours, I want it to remind me on shopping sites once as it did, then be done. It seems to block many carts as well on non shopback sites as I seem to be able to move it but only vertically on the page. Talk about no testing for accessibility either.

            • @gotyourback: I've been searching how to remove the floating browser thing and it has lead me to this thread. It is showing up on XCloud when you're trying to use the full screen for a game. The setting cogwheel on it can't even be clicked. Wish there was an option to disable it but I might have to just remove the whole extension.
              Annoying.

@gotyourback It has been 6 months and the Shopback pop-up still annoyingly cover the top right of most online retail sites. Please let us have the option to turn this off. The only real alternative is to disable the extension. Muting it for a few hours is just as annoying as I need to re-disable it every-single-day!

@gotyourback Any news? I have cracked it and removed the plugin and gone back to cashrewards. I had the shopback notifier on my extensions bar, why would I want it permanently displayed on the webpage covering elements I need to see/click on. So annoying. Let us know when you can disable the floating annoyance and then I can reinstall the extension. Thanks

Make it moveable at least (like Honey's floating button)! This is so stupid.

    @gotyourback

  • I want to find a time to write an extension to hide it.. or even minimize it… but I am too busy with my work and extension.

  • +1 to this issue. So stupid.
Left a 1 star review on the Firefox page as well so hopefully it is fixed soon but judging by this thread it is doubtful.

  • @gotyourback an FYI. It's been over a year since this was raised. Obviously there's no intention of disabling the alert so we'll just stop using it.

    • Yep! and im now constantly getting bugged by a popup asking for cookie permissions over and over. Ill probably stop using it completely soon, the 'mute' button was basically just a slap in the face when they could have just hidden it completely but I guess they must just like annoying their users into giving up and leaving.
