$100 off First Year Comprehensive Car Insurance + 11% Shopback Cashback (Expired) @ Australia Post (Online Only)

370

I took this up last november during a similar previous deal and my comprehensive insurance was $349 (2014 mitsubishi Outlander). That deal included $100 cashrewards and 14% cash back from cashrewards.com.au- so $349 quote would yielded $49.35 in cash back. -

This deal is inclusive of $100 + 11% cashback with shopback - link

however cashrewards cash back has been removed but shop back @11%

as of 10 december 2023 I've had to renew my car insurance. auspost sent me a nice reminder letter stating that to renew the policy it would be $530.
a quote online gives a quote of $580 for comprehensive insurance - but less $100 brings it down to $480. - so ~$130 more for a car now worth less.

i tried the following competitors for comprehensive -
coles car insurance and they quoted $944
budget direct was $ 739 (with the 15% online discount)
bingle $740
suncrop $1020

Auspost car insurance is underwritten by QBE.

I haven't had to make a claim so can't comment on the service.

The deal will be good for some and not so good for others.

some people will get cheaper quotes else where.

anecdotal evidence suggests that sometimes putting yours and your cars details in with your neighbours address will show a different price - it's a crap shoot

the gender of driver can influence the cost.
the KMs driven can also influence - i.e. lower KMs = lower premium - dropping from 10-20K to 10k reduced the premium ~$40

Always check the T&C and PDS before you make a financial decision, there is no harm to do a quote first, as YMMV.

any way , It's a long running deal so that is good.

previously - 14% cashback Special Terms
Cashback is only eligible on new car insurance policies.

The deal will be good for some and not so good for others.

Can confirm. An extra $300 for me compared to RACV.

    • An extra $600 for me compared to RACV, oh my

    • Didnt do this comparison but i just signed over to AAMi from RACV (silver member and multi discount member too) as AAMI were $250 cheaper

Worth checking every now and again

  • Cashrewards shows "No cashback offers" for AU Post car insurance.
    How did you get it?

    • This deal is just inclusive of $100

**however cash back has been removed **

      • Oh! Then no deal for me.

    • +1

shopback 11% as of right now

      • thank you.

  • Is there an insurance compare website that wont spam you will calls?

    • +8

      You are on it now.

    • An hour doing quotes is well spent. Just be careful to compare the sum insured and excess. Use the excess slider to see how much your policy premium decreases/increases and judge if the diff is worth your while. Some won't do Agreed Value (prob age of vehicle dependent).

Tried pretty much every insurer I knew of before going with AP this year and saved $600 on my renewal price. AP was ~$200 cheaper than the next best. Youi was potentially cheapest but they wouldn't give me a ballpark number without speaking to them. After I sent them a message they got back to me but too late, I'd already engaged AP. Coincidentally QBE was my previous insurer. Had a couple of claims (storm, nf accident) and QBE were very good (local rep helped with hail damage).

      • You dodged a bullet by Youi being to slow.

        • Why, bad experience? Reviews seem to be positive, better than some competitors whose premiums are usually significantly higher.

I'll likely give them another chance next year when the AP renewal premium will assuredly jump. Always keep in mind that you are more likely to not need to claim than the opposite, but of course weigh that up against very poor service.

  • Is there still 11% cashback? Seeing it on all screens in the app except for 1 screen showing no cashback @gotyourback

  • went to renew insurance online. website is down. LOL. - TIL - kogan and auspost car insurance are both with QBE - whose quote website is down

rang up and got a quote - $1000.
I sputtered at the price and said I had an online quote for $580 (not including the $100 online bonus - so $480 , also 11% shop back - so end price $427 - still $130 more expensive than last year.)

stupidly I didn't save my quote details.

person said they would check if they could get it cheaper for me. and with online $100 discount they could offer $560 -which doesn't include 11% shop back.

so $133 more than the online price..

Thanks, I looked on the rewards sites and couldn't find any discount, then came here and followed the ShopBack link, saved my daughter over $120 plus I'm going to get $80. Have all 3 cars with AP now as a while ago got the same sort of deal on the other 2 and have saved at least $500 on car insurance this year.

  • wow expensive

  • No cashback showing up in shopback any longer

    • its back to 11% now

  • how can you get a quote for just $500 something?

  • How come people can get really cheap quotes.
For my Camry 2015 I get $1400-$1600 for Comprehensive and 490-590 for 3rd party

    Value 17700
    Excess 945

    No other options tick

Any clue to find cheaper deal

Depends on your record, place of residence/security, etc (ie combined risk factors) but it seems QBE has gone overboard with its premiums. Just did a few quotes for my wife and both AP and their agent QBE were 50% higher than NRMA, with a lower agreed value. Even cheaper, surprisingly, was GIO. I dumped QBE this year because they weren't in the same ballpark as other insurers.

Too many variables to say X will be cheaper than Y. You have to spend an hour or two doing online quotes and compare premiums, agreed values, excesses, etc. As they all use similar forms (only about 3 or 4 variations from my experience) it's not that onerous. Some I don't bother with because of reputation or because past experience has shown they aren't value (AAMI for eg). Try Ww, Coles and Budget (have lifted their game a lot).

For the numbers you quoted the comprehensive/3PP question becomes a significant factor. GL

      • Thanks mate

      • When i moved house 5 years ago i moved 4 kms up the road (literally the same street). I did a quote for my new house and a quote for my new house. New house address was $70 cheaper for comprehensive. Both for parking on the driveway. So "security" wasnt the change. Simply suburb.

        • Likely to have been crime statistics or rates of claim for each suburb or possibly your suburbs were lumped into different segements (eg council/LGA areas) because that's how other stats are collected.

        • But $349 for 2014 outlander is unbelievable price. Where are you in Australia if you don't mind sharing?

@altomic: I am getting $594 for comprehensive insurance but it clearly says "quote includes $100 online discount for a new comprehensive car insurance policy" So I am not sure how did you manage to get a quote from Aust Post excluding the $100 discount as per your original post:

"a quote online gives a quote of $580 for comprehensive insurance - but less $100 brings it down to $480"

              Attached screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/Qyn2JUy

              • @OneFootUp: i quoted the price without discount ("regular price") and then less the $100

Thanks for posting, finally signed up for a third party after 4 years of driving.

  • 1,164 more expensive than GIO!

  • -1

The real deal is not having insurance 😉🙄

  • note - I've bought a "new" second hand car - mazda 6 2016. so only 2 years newer than my outlander. - I'm getting a quote of $825 .

    similar quotes shown via compare-the-market

address is the same, details are the same. only difference is car make and model.

just did another quote - as it asks if i have lost any demerit points in the last 3 years - and originally I had said yes, but remembered that my last traffic infringement /last demerit point lost was pre-covid- so 0 demerits. quote dropped to $651

  • At the time of writing 15 Feb 2024, it is active again, but now it is $75 discount and 11% cashback via shopback.

And for what it is worth, for me the renewal premium emailed through was $950, last year was $644, a signficant jump, not renewing but starting a new policy ignoring cashback everything same worked out $926 so minor saving compared to straight renewal. With cashback I expect that saving to be just over $100, well worth it for me. And FYI impact of
increasing excess from $800 to $1000 reduces cost further, premium drops from $926 to $863.
