  • Is this as good as the hype? What would be compatible as I havenโ€™t seen it down here before :)

They have good portion sizes and looks fresher than the usual KFC chicken

I tried the Bayswater store last week. The chicken was really nice and Smokey but it was also a little dry.

The garlic sauce was just like the garlic dip from Aldi.

The chips were average. Not amazing not the worst. Probably needed another minute or two in the fryer.

Overall better than kfc or similar but not a place Iโ€™d rush back to. For me in the area Embers in Heathmont is much better chicken.

      • Thanks for the detailed response

IMO no. People I met in Sydney raved about it a lot but when I had it the chicken was pretty dry and bland and the chips weren't memorable either. The garlic sauce seemed like your run-of-the-mill garlic sauce that you'd get in any kebab or souvlaki.

I'd personally go to a local charcoal chicken store or Nando's instead.

    El Jannah is overrated.
When they first opened it was great but since being sold and turned into a franchise its rubbish.

    • +3

could call it overrated, sure, but it's no way near rubbish. You're gonna offend a lot of people with that take ๐Ÿคฃ

      • as someone who lives in Granville, yeah its overrated

also glad to see the rest of australia can suffer from this mess

BUT a $5 feed is a $5 feed so eat up

        • It was all about the value to taste ratio. EJs, before they became all commercialised, was fantastic value and the taste was incredible. They've since dropped on both metrics, which is a shame. Their garlic sauce is still tops, though.

  • Wow el jannah has made it to Melbourne?

    Sick. Western Sydney represent.

  • +2

Not the best tasting chicken. It's very dry you have to eat it straight of the bbq

  • I'm waiting for the Kensington one to open.

    • Word. Though I haven't actually seen any work on that site, like, ever.

      • Work on the site has stopped for like the last 6 months. Hurry up and finish, I want my chicken!

  • I must be so out of touch - normal price of $12.50 for quarter chicken chips and drink seems expensive to me.
    Though $5 is cheap.

    • +1

yeah $12,50 is stupid ass rip off the CBD worker price

I think a chicken is $16,50 but its a very malnourished somali chicken size

Good deal, problem is you need to go to Pakky and interact with the colourful locals

    • i would guess its still beats granville where this started

      • The latest DCOA video has a stolen car flipping into the dashcam owner while fleeing the police outside Granville station. So yes, Granville still takes the crown for most colourful part of the country

  • eljannah use to be really good..

  • Chicken is quite small and really dry (they really have to pump out so much chicken to meet demand). Personally I like their garlic sauce, not on the tangy side.

  • nooo. can't believe i missed out on this. thanks for sharing though neil!
