5x 1ft USB to MicroUSB Cables from Meritline for $3.99 Inc. Shipping (Good Cables for 80c Each)

51

Thought I'd post this even though they're not actually on sale as such. This is their normal price and as you can see you need to buy five at a time to get them for 80c each… but who can't use more than one extra cable?

Believe me, I've tried many cheapie Chinese MicroUSB cables over the last couple of years because I refuse to pay $15-20+ for such a basic item however the super cheapies end up being either dodgy when you get them or they die soon after and only trickle charge your phone. I've concluded that it's just down to the cheap wire they use because I've noticed the less you flex them the longer they seem to last!

I purchased a twin pack of these a few months ago when they were on sale just to see how they'd go. These are EXCELLENT and charge even better/faster than my original HTC cables! I then purchased a few 5-packs and they all work well too (I hand them out to staff at work who've lost theirs and have only had great reports).

PLEASE NOTE that these are only very short (actually less than 1ft) so they may not suit everyone but can be perfect for others like me who don't like/need the longer cables (ie. less cable clutter on your desk at work or when charging in the car). Please also note that these will take 3-4 weeks to arrive.

80c each = Bargain but if these get cheaper then even better!

Enjoy.

This is an Australian site, please use Metric values were possible. (God I hate Imperial)

    For everyone else 1ft = 30.48cm

Even worse than Imperial is the U.S. 'Standard' (no they aren't the same, which is the problem).

Maybe if we all just started pretending the U.S. didn't exist, things would go better?

  • Quote "These are EXCELLENT and charge even better/faster than my original HTC cables!"

Somehow I doubt this is very accurate. (I know it's your opinion, I'm just saying, it's most likely going to be extremely flawed and sounds like blatant over inflationary advertising)

That said. Thanks for the deal ;)

    • It is theoretically possible if they have lower resistance (they are quite short). Even then you would need to measure the results to determine a difference.

      • I bought some "Original HTC branded" even with the little stickers on the cable once and they would take about 4 hours to charge the open 4 percent so I know that not all cables are equal. Would love to know more about how and why.

    • I am convinced my original Apple iPhone charging cable charges faster than a cheap third party iPhone cable. I've done a few tests over the past few years and I've found the Apple cable charges probably 10% faster?

      • Are you talking about a cable that pulgs into power and charges the phone, or a USB cable for the phone, which happens to charge it? Note that iPhones don't follow the USB changing standards of other phones (though more recent iPhones are compatible with an adapter).

EDIT: As mentioned below, maybe it is the plugs that are the issue.

I've bought the crappie Chinese model and last time Meritline came up with these on special, I nabbed them. Turned out to be exactly the same as the Chinese ones, and were useless for charging.
Maybe you get lucky, but I'll be skipping these as much as I skip the Chinese ones.

    • Can you explain why they were useless for charging? What was the problem?

EDIT: Had a quick look at this and it seems that poor (cheap) contacts on the connectors will cause this problem.

    • These are also Chinese and they are also cheap… but hey, these have worked a heck of a lot better than the others I've purchased previously. I can't vouch for the other lengths Meritline offers but I've found these to be really good rock solid performers over the last few months I've had them. It may be due to the shorter length/less resistance but whatever it is they're well worth it in my book.

LOL I bought 3 cables for a total of $1 from these guys just a few weeks ago

  • SOLD!… more useful then the Tweezers that pops up here evry now and again

  • Thank you, I have a box full of duds, I'll look forward to some "little usb" cables that actually work.

  • Can anyone confirm if these work for data transfer? I've bought so many dodgy cables in the past that work ok for charging, but won't work for connecting the device to a PC.

    • Yep, I can confirm that they do, no worries at all. Strange that you have the opposite problem to most of the people I've assisted. Data is usually OK on the cheapie cables I've had but charging has always been the problem. Well there you go :)

      • I did read that and thought it's a bit strange. I think I've bought at least 10 cables from 3 different places and all have the same issues with data. They might work at first for a week, but then my PCs won't be able to read them any more. Never had charging issues though!

I might get these then and see how they go. :) Thanks.

  • Thanks OP I was re-organizing my cable drawer(s) last night and have 5-10 mini-b cables -_-! thinking a few more micro cables would be nice! TY

  • Thanks. Seem to go through a lot of microusb cables because the connectors end up breaking.

  • I have used these cables and find them to be excellent for what its worth.

  • Bugger. My short cables just arrived and they're not the same as the thicker ones I purchased earlier during the Meritline sales. They seem to work however time will tell whether they're as good as the thicker ones.

Hope others get the proper thicker ones.
