Not Heymix so that's a winner for me.

Product description from the HT website is below. Pretty sure they used ChatGpt to generate this as it seems off:

Aerocool PowerStrip 8 AC Outlets Surge Protector
Eight AC Outlets: The surge protector has eight AC outlets, allowing you to connect multiple electronic devices to a single power source. This is particularly useful when you have a limited number of available power outlets.

Surge Protection: The surge protector is designed to safeguard your connected devices from power surges, spikes, and voltage fluctuations. This protection helps prevent damage to your valuable electronics caused by sudden increases in voltage.

Overload Protection: The mention of "overload protection" suggests that the surge protector has built-in mechanisms to prevent the outlets from being overloaded with too much power consumption. This feature helps to prevent overheating and potential damage to both the surge protector and your connected devices.

Master Switch: The presence of a master switch implies that you can easily turn on or off all the connected devices with a single switch. This can be convenient for saving energy when devices are not in use or during situations where you want to quickly disconnect all devices.

Total 40W: This might refer to the maximum power handling capacity of the surge protector. It's important not to exceed this limit to ensure safe operation and prevent potential overheating.

1.8-Meter Cable: The attached 1.8-meter (approximately 6 feet) cable provides flexibility in terms of placement. You can position the surge protector in a location that is convenient for connecting your devices while ensuring that it's not too far from the power source.

    • Ozbargainers love a bargain regardless of quality. For some reason Heymix still get massive up votes for every single deal

      • +5

yeah i know but whoever i can defer is for the best

      • +4

Which makes it not a bargain and just cheap crap but yeah people don't even try to know the difference sometimes. Terrible for the environment.

      • +1

Not sure I agree. Ozbargain is about getting qualty things at a good price. We're picky.

What's wrong with Heymix? Serious question. I have a Heymix board and it's been great.

Doesn’t your house burn down if you use Heymix?

    • Same here!

I bought a single heymix product - USB A+C charger, it works….kinda, and hasn't burned my house down.
But it only works fine as long as I'm looking at it. As soon as I look away, the USB-C output resets and turns off.
That's the kind of QA they have….

It's like the double slit experiment of USB chargers.

It's not QA, it's by design. Repair of such stuff is my hobby. 90% of such issues are due to cheap/missing capacitors which are either bad from scratch or just getting hot over the minutes of full load and lose specs. It's important to check what standards are on the case, as often it may be top top short-term peak load, while long-term load is like 20-40% lower, and this is not what you expect from that device.

Also, specifically to surge protectors. Their design is to have a component that is consumable. It can protect you from some spikes, but after getting enough spikes it doesn't do anything anymore. Normal users are not aware of that and keep thinking that they have a surge protector, but in fact it's just a powerboard with extra expectations. Do a simple check - if you have a fridge and a decent sounds system (or just cheap computer) but connected to a good headphones like $500, if you can hear a noice of your friedge going to standby in your headphones it means your surge protection is gone. Obviously, there are more technical details, as they can protect from high spikes only, while your fridge does only low ones, but good protection usually covers them all.

I've been lucky too - no issues with my 65W PD charger. But apparently others haven't been lucky.

What many people realise is that the cost of bringing a quality product to market isn't the design or the manufacturing, but the quality control and support. Some of the cheap products out there have all the features of an expensive product at half the price. The product will look good, may even have decent build quality and come in a fancy box, but they haven't spend time testing it and ironing out issues.

    • I've got a couple Heymix chargers around the house and never had an issue with them.

I get that people have brand eversions though… I hate Samsung due to repeated past failings and will never buy anything to do with them again, but others swear by them.

      • I had the same experience with Samsung. Garbage.

        • Could be a fake Samsung. Very hard to see the difefrence from outside.

          • @Ozzster: JB HiFi big screen TV. Junk. Uneven light spots on a dark screen (like smoky clouds). More non-uniform colouring than the old Panasonic plasma it replaced.
Scorptec PC monitor. Junk. Dead pixels, then only after about 3 years started turning itself off .

Both very reputable retailers (very unlikely to be selling "sony guts").

Nup, Samsung can suck it. Terrible products from my experience.

            • @UFO: It's not about the retailers, it's about the tech quality. Some brands are cheap by default, like TCL. Some expencive brands may have cheap model lines, pretty much any. Some technologies may have design drawbacks, like plasmas. And all, absolutely all of them have components that die out with the time, heat, and dust.
My point is that I personally have the fake Samsung charger and I had a chance to compare it with the original one. Being identical from outside they have nothing in common inside.

          • @Ozzster: Oh the old "Samesung"

    • I used one and it died within a month of purchase, then read about the issues they have so wont be making that mistake again. Very much hit and miss product it seems

Great work on a nice clear product description 🤔🤭

Total 40W: This might refer to the maximum power handling capacity of the surge protector.

  • Can someone advise which brand should we buy? I want good quality ones to ensure safety. Thanks

    • If you don't need crappy usb charging, there's this 12 outlet Arlec one from Bunnings? $24.50, surge protected, and spaced out terminals for larger transformer types.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-12-outlet-power-board-with…

Alternatively, if you must have USB charging, there's this twin pack. 8 outlet board with USB x2 for $15.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-8-outlet-usb-powerboard-2-…

      • Thanks mate, so Arlec is a good vrand?

        • They've been around for decades, I remember having an Arlec battery charger as a kid. There's probably better brands at much more expensive prices, but at this price point at least these guys are properly established in Australia and definitely sell product that's up to Australian Code. And being from Bunnings any issues are easily sorted out at their service counter.
