What's the cheapest esim phone you can get?

    • +1

Picked up a moto g54 5g, which has esim, when there was that deal a couple weeks ago, so $200 or so?

  • +1

ozbargainers, please do a price match before put the order, and pay with 15% discounted gift card, at the end, paid $328.09 - $100(GC) = $228.09

        online chat, and matched https://www.skycomp.com.au/motorola-g84-12-256g-midnight-blu…

$338 plus code for extra 5%off, but have to $5.99 for delivery

        • Tried via chat and they said couldn't verify them as a retailer. Chat now closed so can't try another sales rep :(

          • @Barglala: Same result, such a weird justification for not price matching?, they offered me $389 as if that'd somehow be more tantalising than the $355 shipped skycomp can do.

            • @kickasspeanut: I got a private link via sms. Not sure it works once only or not

            • @kickasspeanut: Just got price match with marshmallow blue $338, the mid night blue only available at Warrnambool Vic

    • just did this and it worked!!

    • Yeah, but price match with who?

Get the Australian deal it is a great deal if you need an update to your horrible old Nokia 5.3 like me….
But Finance minister says, It still working NO DEAL :)

  • Thanks! I was about to get the nokia x30 until I saw this

  • This or Pixel 6a?

    • G84 is released this Sep. P6A is quite old.

      • Is this too far worse than pixel 7 that is double in price?

Also is it something similar to Oppo phones. I don't like my current Oppo (A96; bought for $400) as it is just too weak and gets hot a lot

        • +1

providing software support is very expensive, you need to retain engineers who worked on that phone and also keep a few more allocated for that phone's team.
          good cam modules are expensive.
Motorola conviently skips on both of these high cost inputs to keep costs low.
this explains the price difference a lot.

          • @backupper1: with chips updating annually, once they move to next cpu, supporting new major android releases is expensive exercise vs allocate engineers to new model.

    • Please read the ad description. It says free case

      • Theyre asking "Does it come with a case LIKE G82"

I think they read the description just fine, suffice to say you didnt read the comment properly.

          This guy debates

      • +1

Thanks!! I did search for the word, case, but it didn't show any match. I guess I made a typo.

        • +1

The post was revised, it did not originally include details about the case. You may have read / searched back then.

Is this better than the Samsung S20 FE?

    • I was wondering something similar - how much better is it than my current Galaxy S10, which came out in 2019?

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=12526&idPhone…

      https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/qualcomm-snapdragon-85…

Answer: The Samsung still beats it in the most important areas - processing power and camera - even though the Motorola has newer tech. My battery is still fine as well, lasts a day. Your S20 FE has higher specs than mine, so will obviously trump this Motorola. Flagship gonna flagship even after 4 years I guess.

Fortunately, but unfortunately, I will hold on to my S10. I can still sell it 2nd hand for around $200, has held its value very well. If I were to buy this, I would basically be spending $100 along with my S10 for a new phone that is worse in performance, though will have newer updates and security updates for the next 2-3 years. To me that's not an upgrade.

Personal experience with past Motorlas - very good battery life, but camera performance is simply rubbish at night.

edit: security updates. Don't know how much it means to you, for me it doesn't mean much at all, so this could be a big factor for you.

      • I was also in a similar situation, on a S10E, have changed battery but it can't last the day so need to use battery saver - which makes it chug

        • the S10E was not really a flagship from memory. Maybe this Motorola is a good option for you, i am sure the battery life will be much better, no guarantees

          • @ram4ram: they actually had same CPU/GPU but different cameras and screens. anyways got the Moto

            • @jh084: good one mate, i'm sure you'll have no regrets

        • if compare to S10E it is essentially the same stuff, same performance same two camera system. Only difference is S10E 4-5 years and confirmed last OS update is the 2022 one. This one released three months ago with old parts put together and market as a new phone. The only advantage is it will get Android 14.

Interesting enough I also know someone who is using an S10E, you would expect the GN9 sensor on G84 to be quite a bit better than the S10E. however, our short test show G64 is equal the S10E at best (again a 4-5 years old phone), and in some situation performs worse. This just shows how important software is in smartphone camera system. That is what you are paying more for Samsung Google and Apple.

    • I'm in the exact same situation. I have a S20FE, and wondering if this is an upgrade or not. Ended up buying first and researching later

Can the code be used in-store?

  • +1

Just finished work and suffice to say im devastated.
i smashed my phone accidentally this very morning! It's a write off and this was the perfect replacement.

  • I think it's OOS JB style, only Nowra has stock, no C&C or delivery available on other location.

      • Yes the White one has stock, just pick one up for my friend. They apply the code and give you the gift card on the spot.

I pay with afterpay and gor the promotional instore credit as well.

I wouldn't buy this myself but my friend doesn't want to spend money on the phone 😢😢

  • so this has dual physical sims?

    Hybrid Dual SIM (nano-SIM + nano-SIM/micro-SD)

  • +1

    Thanks OP!
Had my eye on this since it came out and almost ended up getting the G54 during Black Friday, got this instead. Got the marshmellow blue colour as it appears no stock in store anywhere in vic for red/midnight blue and I want it before xmas and marshmellow appears in stock everywhere. (couldn't decide on colour so I guess the choice got made for me)

  • Unfortunately for me, not enough of an upgrade over my $200 G82, Will wait for the next gen I guess.

    • +2

$200 G82 is almost unbeatable deal.

    • I dropped mine today and its buggered. Tis better than getting a screen replaced

  • thanks….got the marshmallow one

  • The annoying thing about this phone (long time Samsung abuser) is that the back button is on the bottom left of the screen, which is a big adjustment for me.
The two camera lenses on the back stick out a mile too!

    • use gesture controls. they can't change that

      • Absolute lifesaver, thankyou!!

      • Massive thank you for this!

  • +2

Just picked up marshmallow one from Epping VIC.

    Price matched
    https://www.skycomp.com.au/motorola-g84-12-256g-midnight-blu…

This one and got another 5% off. Paid 338$ and also got 100$ gift card. So technically phone is 238$

    • Good on you. You got lucky that they did the price match for you. I was denied saying skycomp is not listed in their approved sellers for price match (which seems crock of bull since skycomp is an aussie seller too).

      • Well in my opinion if you're good with them and they have a feeling that a product might be sitting In shelf for long time, they will price match it. They definitely won't price match Samsung apple etc unless the competitor is big retailer

        • Just price matched online but they only did for same colour

        • It's not about being good or bad to them, it's about JB not following their price match policy. They bend the rules whenever they like and always use lame excuses such as "management said no" etc. They've never done price match for me (and this is online chat).

          • @omicron: Got price beaten for $330 all up for Marsh mellow colour. Picking up from my local store. But did miss out on the extra 5%.

            • @Going Broke: Whoa! That's amazing. Was this online or in store? I might try in store now. Thanks for sharing.

  • This or nokia g42. Thoughts please

    • if you want nokia the g60 is on spacial at JB cheaper than g42. g42 and g60 are ips screens the moto is oled screen , nokia x30 is oled, but nokia will get more updates ….

  • +1

Thanks OP. Good specs for spare phone ✌️

  • Guys update it comes with clear case attached too

  • In every aspect this phone is equal an S10 at best, but without the telephoto. It does / will get Android 14 though. It does feature the GN9 sensor which "suppose better" than the GN5 sensor but there isn't much info about it. Moto are likely just implement the basic camera API, so I wouldn't count on the camera performance. With all that I start to question if this is really a good deal….

Guess will find out tomorrow when I give the phone to my friend and test it out

  • Hmm, missed out on this. Was thinking of side grading from the A73, which I've had for a year. I usually change every year just to get a new battery, but I guess I'll have to wait for something else.

    • The Blue colour is right there and available for me right now 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • Still available at $399, i got price match@ $338 on line chat compared with skycomp.com.au.

  • Those that did click collect, did you get the gift card when you picked it up?

    • +1

They said as I purchased online I would get a egift card

  • I purchased this in-store yesterday but didn't realise I could have price matched with Skycomp. Is there any way I can get a refund of the price difference or is it too late?

    • i tried online, and they wont price match skycomp. however, someone did successfully got it

    • it depends. I request via online chat and got declined initially. when I was asking the reason for the decline, rep says he was referring an out-of-date guide and it's okay to match it. at the end, messaged me a private link with matched price.

  • +1

PRICE MATCH is still working! just tried it out and they provided a separate link to order.. no 5% extra off though.. $338 it is and $100 gift card. hopefully phone is good lol

  • Very inconsistent with JB price match. One person said no, and another live chat session said yes but could only match it to $348. Also no confirmation on the $100 gift card.

Anyone purchased online received any confirmation that they will receive the gift card?

  • Has anyone received the gift card?

    • It was provided during the transaction

      • They informed me that since it's an online Click and collect order, it will be delivered via email.

    • Purchase on 14th, egift card received today.

      • just received mine today as well, thanks

  • I price matched skycomp using the chat today and got the marshmallow click and collect. The $100 gift card will be emailed to me they said in the chat.

  • +2

The phone exceeded my expectations. I initially thought it had 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, but upon receiving it, I discovered it actually boasts 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

    • Happy with it then?
      Any complaints?

Apparently the camera is pretty bad (subjectively) and it's last years processor , only negatives I came across

      • +2

Honestly, I have no complaints, considering it only totals $228.09 ($328.09 - $100) in JB credit.

  • Looks like it's sold out at skycomp now. Are there any comparable retailers to price match?

  • +1

JB Hifi were out of stock, didn't seem like they were getting anymore before that coupon expires.
    Haggled GoodGuys for $350.

Also price matching with SkyComp is no longer possible, their links are now dead ends.

    • Red one is now removed from JB hifi, marshmallow in stock at few stores in VIC
