120 Velocity Status Credits each way. The flight is only about 200 miles off getting 160 credits each way!

    • +14

      Ask for the scenic route

      • I did that with Virgin's rubbish business class last week going via Cairns.

  • +1

Can we change the dates so it's longer than 10 days?

    • +1

Yes of course. The dates provided are just examples

  • How does redeeming points to KrisFlyer work? Is there a conversion rate?

  • +4

I love ANA, the number one choice of Japan’s most polite pensioners. It’s the only reason I occasionally regret being back on the one world train.

  • I need a July date - will there likely be any July flight sales? Great price in any case!

    • +1

As July is school holidays, I would say unlikely. However I will keep an eye out though.

      • I'm after a late July date but totally understand - school holiday is peak! Thanks!

        • Looks like 2nd Aug is when it drops back down

  • +2

is it true they treat you differently in business class vs economy like that Seinfeld episode?

    • +7

They have those curtains there for a reason! The peasants shouldnt have the luxury of looking at the upper class folk. FWIW I tried business class on points and thought it was a once off experience and you're much better off saving cash/points for future cattle class trips

      • +3

People flying business class aren't necessarily sacrificing future holidays to do so

      • yeah I ponied up the cash for business class most recent trip and paid $$$$$ or 4x economy - the Sydney Skyteam lounge (shared by multiple airlines) was disgusting with the only thing I could swallow being the free beer (in tiny glasses) - onboard the food looked like economy, and the only thing I liked was the very comfortable lay horizontally seat/bed - that was great.

so yeah - if you're spending your own money I'd say it's not worth to go business class based on this experience - tho' I'd certainly hope ANA would be better - do they have their own airport lounge ? I wouldn't want to go back to the shared Sydney airport Skyteam - that was disgusting.

      username checks out

      • -2

that's not how you use it guy

    • If you pick the right seats in economy you can have the best leg room and get to meet some pretty good flight attendants. The galley in the middle of the plane where the toilets are always has free snacks, alcohol, coffee and other drinks. You just need to know about it.

I spent half the flight drinking and chatting away with the flight attendants there.

      • Pointers on seats?

        • -1

The same as any other flight. Exit rows.

        • SeatGuru!

      • Business class is just a little bit more than just seats with decent leg room.

        • -1

          derp

          • @Clear: Indeed.

"Hey guys is business class worth it?

"Nah, just try to get the exit row seats in economy, it's the same thing!"

  • Add ADL into the equation and bumps it up by $2k WTH…

    • +7

Just buy a cheap jetstar/Virgin return ticket to Sydney and leave enough connecting time to join your ANA flight (and vice versa). Should still be able to do it less than $3k.

      • cheap jetstar/Virgin return ticket

missed connection due to almost guaranteed delay?

        • Yes, there is always a risk of that. I would leave at least 3-4 hours connecting time. Which is not too bad, considering you can spend it in business class lounge.

  • +2

do you know if there'll be any coming from Perth?

    • +2

Had a look at Perth and prices are high unfortunately.

  • -3

Can you do one way for this price? I have enough qantas points for business one way but would like a good priced business for the other other way.

    • +1

OP isn’t a rep for ANA and/or can control their pricing lol

    • +7

You certainly can! Simply don't get on your return flight, and you've paid this price for one way!

    • +3

I had this situation. Found Singapore airlines business class for approx $1650 one way from both Tokyo and Osaka.

  • +7

I find it wild that people spend this much on the flight. Why not put that money into better hotels? Much better ROI

    • +10

Because of they're paying this much for a flight… They're probably already starting in 5 star hotels

    • +3

For that once in a lifetime experience? For sleep? For the perks? For the status credits?

      • IMO, flying is a means to an end, not an experience in and of itself. If you can afford business class, go for it. But I'd MUCH rather spend my money on hotels, in country experiences, quality local products, food, etc.

    • +1

Flying business class and staying in luxury hotels aren't mutually exclusive

    • +7

I use to have the same mindset but.. as i get older and the lack of time in the day..

Business class can definitely help alleviate those problems.

Other thing comes down to comfort (sore back, dead legs, discomfort), how much you're willing to spend and how much you value your time. (how much is your time worth?)

I tend to recover faster on business class flights, overall i don't get a sore back or legs, jetlag is more tolerable, can actually get some good shut eye

Also waiting lines into the airport are significantly faster especially when it is busy.

Having somewhere to sit before the flight with services like showers, food and wifi.

This is particularly a good deal thought, return flights to Japan economy around 1.7k-2k .

Extra 1k is an easy value for money

However, i'm not sure about ANA as i haven't flown with them.

      • +3

If you're paying 2k for a return flight (over these dates) to Japan, you've been scammed

      • I wouldn't pay more than $1k for flights to Japan return, and even that is a bit high.

My flights this year were $800 return. $2k extra for 16 hours of additional comfort is a heck of a lot.

    • Having a lie-flat bed for those night flights is bliss. It's a lot to pay for not very much, but it's so much nicer than the alternative.

      • Unless you're over 6'3 ish. I fly business with United occasionally and can't lay flat as it's too short to stretch out, and too narrow to go fetal. I end up having to sleep with the seat up, not much different from premium economy.

And United Polaris is supposed to be pretty spacious as far as business seats go.

        • Lol no it's among the worst…only slightlu better than JAL Sky Suite III

    • +1

I value flight way more than hotel. Like the comment above, great flight is a good start and end to your journey, especially for red eye flights.

Whereas with hotel in Japan, 3 star hotels already do a great job (for my needs anyway), I'm only there to shower and sleep.

    • My view point is the difference between econ/bus on a flight is potentially 10 hours (x2) of suffering. I am relatively happy with the budget hotel offerings (e.g., APA $80-100/night) with their convenient station locations. Any non-capsule hotel should give you privacy, a bed and a decent night's sleep. Paying saying $1500 more spread over a week doesn't give you a much better hotel (better spent on food!).

That said, haven't paid for a business ticket out of own pocket yet but this deal is tempting!

    • Or just $1500 into better food, experiences, stay an extra week Etc.

  • -2

Flight almost too short to fully take advantage of lie flat seats.

    • Not sure why the negs. It’s true.

And business on ANA is like economy plus/premium on other airlines. (The bed is the only tthat puts it above)

      • That from experience? I'm this close to pulling the trigger on this but only if it's actually a vool experience for the fam

        • Yes, from experience.

If you’ve never been business class, then it’s a massive difference, of course.

Yes cool experience, enjoying the Lounge before a flight!

That said, the range of inflight movies is abysmal (ok if you use iPads instead).
The food was so so, I probably would not have been able to tell the difference between economy and business.
If you go during the day, then yeah, you don’t really make use of the low flat bed for ~9 hour flight time. - and there is only 1/2 hour time difference, so it’s not useful to help with Jetlag.

I say all this, but I have been lucky enough to fly Qatar, Emirates and Etihad Business Class (for work, I’d never pay myself).
Business class comes in really handy on long haul flights, where you stop over in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and can enjoy the lounge between flights, eat great food, have a shower and lounge on comfier seats. (Activities for kids)

I hope that doesn’t turn you off doing it if you want to, but that’s some perspective.

    Thanks for always posting deals.
Any idea when ANA will be doing ~$900 flights from Melbourne @flightfinderau?

  • No problems. Happy to help

ANA doesn't fly to Melbourne - just Sydney and Perth.

However Japan Airlines does fly to Melbourne and I have seen fares for less than $900 in the past. Hopefully in the new year we will see some deals around that price mark - if not cheaper!

  • Cheapoflyt / BYOjet? Seem like very reputable resellers?

  • Japan is very hot and humid during summer. However a lot of summer festivals and fireworks

    • +1

August heatwave was so intolerable we skipped two days of the Jazz Festival in Sendai including at night just so we could stay in the hotel air conditioning without sweating and risking heat prostration - in Tokyo after a Yokosai dance parade in a crowd of 10,000 waiting to get onto the train platform I saw an old guy suffering from heatstroke brought forward to beside me as an emergency ambulance call - and that was at night.

So if you value your comfort zone - be where it ain't so horribly hot … ;-)

  • Hi will there be any more flight deals for economy around the Early May - June Period ?

  • Are these cheaper being day time flights and not overnight? Hence lay flat business is less appealing?

  • +1

Don't go to Japan during summer! I went last July and it was a real struggle to walk anywhere. So hot and so humid. One family member had a heatstroke and needed to call ambulance. I've been to Abu Dhabi in 38deg heat, and it's not comparable to Tokyo heat, as it's dry. Humidity makes it a lot worse.

    • this but i think early June is not as bad

    • Late August-September?

      • we were there last August early September this year - it was too hot and horrible in Tokyo and Sendai - really - tho' there were a few nice days in Aomori at the north end of the main island with sea breezes, etc.

    • Yep, not worth it. You’ll be jumping from air con to air con while drinking 6 litres of Aquarius/Pocari Sweat.

      • That actually appeals to me haha…i love the heat.

        • If you love it, go for it. I’m from Melbourne, so the humidity, if you are not used it, kills me.

I found early June, ok ~2019

  • To me, business class is a deal only for those red-eye flights.
