PLEASE AVOID AT ALL CIRCUMSTANCES
As explained in one of the post Airbnb cosider Gift card as a discount / coupon and a substandard form of payment.
As if they are doing a favour to the customer by allowing the customer to pay by GC.This is a good read, my limited experience has been different in that I got my gift card refunded straight away after a cancellation.
Reading other people's experiences, I don't think I'll buy them from now on.
Thanks for the link, there are a few Australian examples where things have gone wrong too, one as recent as April 2023. I'm not buying any more either.
If anyone in Australia has this they should complain to their office of fair trading equivalent and ACCC, clearly illegal
It's terrible to hear about such basic bullshit and illegality.
Having said that, I've never had an issue with gift card credit and cancellations/automatic refunds, and I have no problem continuing to buy GCs.

Good deal, bought $2K worth. Was waiting for a repeat of the 12% deal but hasn't come up in a while.
Previously had to cancel a reservation, and I got refunded my AirBNB GCs. YMMV
Yeah no issues with refunds back to my gift cards either.

airbnb cancelled my 2023 summer trip 4+ times. I do not trust this platform anymore.
