Not bad but I can't bring myself to buy it since I accidentally saw the Samsung 990 2TB for $200 AUD on Amazon about 3 weeks back (around BF/CM timeframe).
I didn't buy it and when I checked the next day the price was $250.
    Price is currently $210 however… which is teeeeempting…. https://www.amazon.com.au/Internal-Expansion-Graphics-MZ-V9P…

      No heatsink though

    • +2

Runs hotter.. and doesn't have a heatsink either

    • +8

Good price for that one too! I'm done for a while with SSD after I got the insane deals for a 4TB Sabrent for $213 the other week (plus a couple of 1tb for $44ea)

      • +4

How did I miss the 4TB deal :-(

      • +1

yeah im spewing i missed those deals. They went too fast.

        • +1

And if I told you those weren't even the best deals that day …😳

    • +1

I got the one with the heatsink directly from Samsung for $230 recently during the sales.

  • Will this work in a Microsoft Surface Pro 9?

    • Nope. I need a 2400 2TB M.2 2230 NVMe
    • +1

      No, you need a M.2 2230, this is a M.2 2280.

  • Got the 2tb Samsung when I got the ps5.
I'm now eying off a 4tb. I've reached maximum capacity of the 2tb…. have had to be more selective on what to keep vs what to delete. Obviously once I've finished a game it goea uninstalled…

How does returns and warranty work with Amazon US?

    • If there is issue, you have to post it back to them, but Amazon will pay for the postage

  • Would an SSD with Heatsink fit in a laptop or can the heat sink be removed if not?

    • It depends on the laptop, whether the SSD slot of the laptop has a tight space or not.
Yes, the heat sink can be removed but it will void the warranty if you didn’t do a clean job. Also there’s a potential to damage the drive if you’re not careful. If you’re not sure whether your laptop would fit then get one without a factory heat sink.

      • Thanks!
Yes I'll keep an eye out for non-heatsink version.
My laptop currently has a 512GB SSD without heatsink and I wanted to upgrade to 2TB.

  • with nvme is there really a big difference if you're just using it to store large games? eg cyberpunk, bladur's gate

    • +1

No, but they're so cheap now you might as well get one.

      • with the way the size of games are going, ill hold out for a 4tb sale

        • +1

Get one with DRAM for your OS/apps and cheaper DRAMless 4tb for your games drive.

  • Worth waiting for boxing day sales or grab one now?

    • -1

      Yes

  • Want to add an additional ssd to my Techfast built computer. Uses a Gigabyte Aorus Elite Z790M AX mobo, which I think only comes with a single Heatsink?

Will I be looking for an ssd like this that comes with a heatsink?

    Thanks

    • +1

You can buy one like this or buy one without a heatsink and install your own. Personally I moved the included drive from the techfast build into a non-heatsink slot and put a faster drive under the heatsink but that is a little bit extra work you might not want to worry about.

      • But I will need a heatsink? Thank you.

  • Noob question: just ordered one for my PS5, then saw in the new thread for the 990 Pro to update the firmware on a PC before running on the PS5.

Is that also required for this 980 Pro?

Edit: doing some Googling it sounds like earlier versions of the 980 Pro had issues and needed an update, but newer versions /should/ be ok. Unfortunately I don't think I currently have a way of directly connecting it to my PCs (old desktop and newer laptop) to check

    • +1

Give it a go and let us know…

    • +1

that was probably the one i put that comment in. You should be safe now, but always check :-)

    • +1

Was confirmed on the deal I bought mine for the 990 Pro that the firmware issue is now resolved

  • If only my asus laptop order wasn’t cancelled 😞

  • Thanks OP, will make a nice addition to the kids’ PS5 Christmas present.

  • The Crucial T500 was only $151 on Amazon for 2TB a couple weeks ago so would probably wait for something similar to that.

  • Black Friday sale now on - $143.16.
