Will this go well with the AMD 7800X3D?

    • +2

exactly what i just purchased it for, it seems very good fit for it and has usb c for front end of case.

im thinking of aio cooling it as well.

      • did exactly all of that. cant fault it

        • what cooler/ case did you use? im pairing it with a 7800xt

          • @BananaMan007: Let’s build the same pc parts

            • @eclipse398: 😊I ended up cancelling this b650 tomahawk order and getting the better b650 carbon for same price through this catch seller: https://www.catch.com.au/product/msi-mpg-b650-carbon-wifi-at…
Its basically the next tier motherboard above tomahawk so i grabbed it since same price just a bit longer shipment.
I think il get a 4000D or 5000D corsair case with a 240mm corsair liquid cooler, still on the lookout for case fans but probs some corsair ones as well to make rgb control easier.

@BananaMan007: my order is too late to cancel according to eBay. i dont mind buying the same one from eBay NZ seller but it is too late for me and not really a big deal.
probably worth it for the local warranty.

                • @eclipse398: Mines said same (not shipped yet), i just contacted them yesterday night and they cancelled this morning. Yeah i think that's the only risk i also had a look at the ebay nz one but i had already messed around too much setting up catch so i just ordered through there. Both are good i guess the carbon is just for future proofing, i went to pick up some parts from umart and i chose the cooler and case:
                  https://www.umart.com.au/product/corsair-icue-4000d-rgb-airf…
                  https://www.umart.com.au/product/corsair-h150-rgb-360mm-aio-…
This means you don't have to buy any fans and all of them are RGB with corsair software so that will be good. I think you can probs get the cooler for $10 less by pricematching. The case seems decent it comes with 3 rgb corsair fans and the cooler is 3 more (front mount) so its set.
Im just looking for ram + ssd but motherboard will be start of jan so i have some time. The tech dude at umart definitely recommended to get ram with EXPO certified since they have seen way too many issues with unstable ram clocks.

@BananaMan007: case was coolermaster TD500 Mesh and I got the Corsair H150i Elite Capellex.

            Paired with a 7900 xtx

@perfectlydark: nice. i got similar cooler (h150 instead of h150i) and 4000D airflow case. is there anything you recommend for ram 32gigs seems enough for me for now but if a good 64 gig deal pops up i might get that. nice GPU, what do you use it for? gaming, work or AI stuff?

              • +1

@BananaMan007: sweet! yeah 32gb is plenty for gaming, or even most tasks really, but if you get a good deal on 64 why not, cant hurt. I mainly use for gaming and 3D design. Not smart enough for AI

  • How are these with fast memory?

    • disregarding am5 instability with ddr5 ram, i think on latest bios version it can clock up high (theoretically 7000+) but if you get a compatible ram kit 6400 should be good and stable. this is their official approved mem kits which allegdly go up to 7600. im waiting for a ram deal which hopefully is close enough with something on the list.

This memory thing is such a bummer. I don't wanna get another Intel but AMD is making it a real pain to switch.

    • Dont go above 6000mt/s with am5

I don't know about this board, but I can't seem to get more than 5400 stable on my Strix B650E-F with certified compatible 6000 Kingston Fury RAM.

      • apparently its best chance of working if it has expo certification

        • It has two EXPO profiles! And even the 5600 one doesn't work properly.

    Nice $150 board.

    • +4

ikr? Insane people have become conditioned to think $300 + is ok for a midrange board.

Nice shit post - the VRM on the B650 is already AUD $180+ in just parts

      B550 Tomahawk
      PWM: 1x RAA229004 $8.06
      MOSFETs: 12x 60A ISL99360 $6.96
      Total $91.58

      B650 Tomahawk
      PWM: 1x MP2857 $10.78
      MOSFETs: 16x 80A MP87670 $10.78
      Total $183.26

      B550 clearance price was $150

B650 VRM alone has doubled in price so this deal at $325 is right

      • Where did you get that price for the MP87670?

  • +1

Its been a bit cheaper (about $6 less) from same seller before.

They had it for $303.42 with eBay Plus on Black Friday, but only 3 available so couldn't be posted here.

Came down to $230.24 if stacked with all the cashback and gift card offers that were also available at the time.

  • Love Tomahawk boards I have used 2 in the past for both AM4 and LGA1700, and i will continue to use tomahawks in the future, I will never stop recommending this board as it is such a good price to performance board with plenty of I/O for most use cases.
