  • is this really good and cheap enough?

    • It's the top Samsung Soundbar with a sub and no rear speakers

      • Add rear speakers swa 9000s xy

        • If that's the plan, might as well buy the 930c which was lingering under 700

          • @abs898: Agree. 930c is a better value with more powerful sound.

        • Can you add 9000s? I thought 800c supported swa-9500s

    • +1

Got one. It’s pretty damn good. For this price, I’d say it’s great value. Especially if you own a Samsung TV

      • +1

I would recommend a Samsung Soundbar mainly if you have a Samsung TV. If not, there are plemty of other options too

But again, it's a lot of speakers for $549

        • what would you suggest as an alternative? I have a sony TV

          • @ceej11: This is fine with it. I got an LG tv and it works great. Just some extra features that make it integrate better with a Samsung but you don’t miss out on much. Sounds really good too. Better than I expected.

          • @ceej11: Get a Sony, they do similar to what Samsung does which syncs your tv and bar

      • i have a lg tv, its working fine, better then my lg soundbar lol

With the 10% app discount it comes to $599.60 for the Q930C (similar coupon), $439.60 for the Q800C

    • I can't see the Q930C in members app. Is it still on?

      • Still comes up for me in "My Vouchers"

        • Must be targeted then?

        • Can't see, you must have saved it when it was on

      • I believe the Q930 deal is expired as I do not see it either.

      • +1

I've cracked the mystery. It's from Samsung loyalty, I emailed them saying I wanted a voucher for the Q930C (was hoping to get something that would stack). It ended up being the same 50% off, and wouldn't stack. Worth a shot if you're after one.

  • "Wireless True Dolby ATMOS, DTS:X and 5.1.2ch sound*"
The * is important, as everything bar the centre channel and sub is virtual.

    • +1

Incorrect. It has L/R/C, the Sub, two upward firing speakers and two side firing speakers.

While the side firing speakers are meant to bounce off the walls/rear of the room to virtualise surround, you've sold it short.

      • As far as I can tell, there are no detached LEFT and RIGHT speakers, they are all in the centre. So if sound comes from the left or the right of you, there is no speaker there at all.

Depending on how far you sit from the TV/soundbar, if you are 2m for example, the left and right speakers should be 1.5-2m apart at least for stereo sound. So this soundbar does virtual Left/Right.

So although the soundbar might have the left and right channel in the central box, it can't physically do stereo unless you sit like 30cm in front of it.

        • +2

Yes darling, like every other soundbar on the planet.

Being a snob about perfect positioning doesn't change the fact that it has discrete, dedicated physical drivers for L/R, and you're bluntly wrong in your statement, and wrong to be calling those channels "virtual".

You can say they might not be good, you really can't say they're virtual.

          • +1

@Ademos: It's like saying a single Next smart speaker has physical stereo just because it has 5 speakers in it…..

Look at the sony ht a9. I've tried many soundbars, they all are severely limited when it comes to basic stereo, relying heavily on walls/room design to achieve virtual stereo, as they do virtual rears and virtual atmos (unless they have physical rears)

            • -1

@onlinepred: It's not virtual atmos either. This bar has two upward firing speakers, the 990c has upward firing ones in the rears too.

Please just stop. There's opinion of efficacy, and then there's simply misinformation.

              • @Ademos: I appreciate your resolve.

You have defined virtual speakers. It’s pretending to have speakers above you by bouncing the sound off the ceiling. Virtualising speakers. It uses this technique to virtualise speakers behind your too. It’s an audio term perhaps you aren’t familiar with.

                https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_surround

                • @onlinepred: I have 2 bookshelf stereo speakers. Because of temporary space constraint I can only put them only 30cm apart and I sit 2m away.

Would you call my setup as virtual mono speaker ?

  • +1

Has anybody A:B compared this with the Q990C?

    • Similarly interested in how this stands up to the Q990C as a pure soundbar and sub (I'm not interested in using surrounds).

      • Not too far off from 990c standalone soundbar. Another couple of speakers in 990.that makes it 7.1 I think (Just the bar)

        • 990c gets rear speakers, more powerful sub, some setup features, etc etc.

Haven't looked but wouldn't be surprised if it had more/better speakers in the bar itself.

          • @Ademos: They wanted to know without the rear, obviously 990 will be better, RRP is also double.

    • I'm interested to hear from those who've heard both and compared them. Please mention if you have done so; or if you're merely infering from hardware specs, etc.

  • Thanks OP, got this on mine along with an offer for a sound tower and a fridge. Though it's really the S9 tablet I'm after lol

  • Would these speakers be as effective if on the floor?

    • Which ones? Soundbar?

      • Yep. Never had surround sound speaker before and don’t have a entertainment unit, as my current tv is on a bracket

        • +1

Won't work as well on the floor. You can mount it under the TV on the wall. There are multiple ways to do it.

  • Can anyone comment on if the Q Symphony feature is any good? Noticeable?

    • +1

It entirely depends on your TV. Which model do you have?

      • I'll be gettng a new QN90C soon, but my old sound bar (HW-Q80R) is not Q Symphony compatible. So i'm just wondering if it's worth the soundbar upgrade.

    • Solid A for my current and previous TV.

      • Which soundbar and TV do you have?

        • 990c with Qn900B

I was using another Samsung Soundbar with Q60A earlier. And Q-symphony made a massive difference

          • +1

@abs898: Ah yes, the QN900B has a 6.2.4 speaker set up so will sound great with Q-Symphony. I have the S90C which only has 2.1 so it doesn't offer anything with paired with my 930c.

    • +1

I have it turned off (QN90B paired with Q930C).

I think it depends on soundbar and TV placement, room type and distance from TV.

There was a noticeable echo/distortion between the two sound sources. The soundbar is plenty powerful as a centre speaker in the room that it is placed that it does not need Q Symphony.

If you have the right conditions it would be good.

  • Im after a code too for the q930c if someone has one they don't plan to use would appreciate your code 👌

    • You don't want to buy 930 from Samsung right now. It's on backorder and you don't know how long it's going to take. Rather recommend to wait for Boxing day, there were some good deals online for Black Friday

  • Similarly would appreciate a Q930C code if anyone has one free!

    • You don't want to buy 930 from Samsung right now. It's on backorder and you don't know how long it's going to take. Rather recommend to wait for Boxing day, there were some good deals online for Black Friday

  • Got it for 700 maybe 6 months ago. Very happy

Was upgrade from ozbargain face Yamaha sound ar which lasted good 4yrs

For this price don't hesitate guys, it's amazing.
We have smaller apartment so this is fine, and feels cinematic when it needs to.

Relative has a 930b and it is indeed noticeably more immersive, so if you have the space, I would recommend 930

  • tried to purchase but get told they don't deliver in my area. quite unexpected it is not national, do they not just use auspost?

    • Not Auspost. Use ANC

      • Unfortunately the website is not good. Couldn't be delivered to my area also. Tried a friend's place. Could be delivered there. Picked the date and it wouldn't let me pass validation as the street is "[x] ramble". When it shortened it to rmb or whatever after using their address finder it was invalid. Manually typing it was also not an option. Tried another friend who has an equally strange street name ending and it worked. Go figure. Got one of these at about 650 in an ebay sale and its great (can add satellites later but that's a much more expensive way to go about it). Got another set for the second TV, at $439. I dont think there is anything close at that price

  • If anyone has a spare code, please let me know and I'd be thankful.

    • I have it for 800c if you need. Pm Me

      • NIL if not taken please thanks

  • Anyone have a spare code for Q800c?

    Much appreciated

    Code please

  • I just thought I ask you guys I’m not really familiar with atoms etc Dolby vision etc when it comes to movies yes sad even though I buy lots of movies I not got into the technical side of it.
I have had a mix bad of TV’s over the years cheapo ones and main one was my 3d tv from 2016 which we still enjoy watching 3d movies of which have kits to catch up on.

We even had a plasma tv that stopped working after about 13 years use

So decided on two 4K TV’s yes I finally took the step into 4K I had a small collection of 4K movies we got these earlier this year.

We got the tcl 75” c835 4K full array mini led qled at the time I had no idea what 4K player to get at the time.
So got the Panasonic dp ub 820k and hooked it up to that tv
lol I’m sure the tcl is Dolby vision and so is the 820k player.
But am I right you need a good sound system to get the Dolby vision I have never experienced it so not sure what to expect.
I have yet to watch a 4K movie with the tv and player yet but to get the Dolby vision do we need to Dolby vision surround system?
Currently we are using and old Yamaha soundbar yas 108b.
Am I right this is not going to be a match for what the tv can provide or what the 4K player has to over? Is this what this item be good for or not needed.

Our other tv is the Samsung 65” bu800 crystal led uhd 4K smart tv 2022
With this it’s hooked up to the Sony 4K ubx700 player
And with this a very old Sony 2.1 ch htmt 300 compact soundbar with Bluetooth.

Last but not least the other tv is a Sony kdl 65w850c yes 3d tv and we still enjoy our 3d movie watching with tons yet to see.

With this is hooked up to the Sony htct180b sound system.

Do I need an atmos surround system like this to benifit say from my tcl tv and atmos 4K player?

Would using my Samsung 65” bu8000 and the Sony ub x700 4K player benifit from using say the Sony htct180 sound bar or better with upgraded this particular set up here would be occasional film viewing and gaming.

And I was thinking the old Sony 3d tv go into bedroom and use the 3d player with that and a normal blu ray player and leave the Sony 2.1 ch htmt 300 compact soundbar with Bluetooth with that.

If it was recommended a better sound bar and it was for the day tcl tv i could always use the Yamaha 108 with the 3d tv.

What’s your thoughts maybe i wrong but maybe I’m not fully set up to experience the atmos sorry for the long post just trying to explain my set up.’

I do plan on putting the Panasonic tv where the 3d is now and after Xmas setting up a Xbox x to that Panasonic tv. So obviously I be swapping over the 3d tv for Panasonic.

As Panasonic is 4K probably be best with that tv I know the tcl tv is a better gaming tv but it’s staying in the other room

  • Has anyone been able to get this below 484? im guessing this post was when the add was full priced? and now samsung have dropped it by 450 so it doesnt work?

wonder why? that was weird. i ended up price matching 480 with jb and picked it up on same day, amazing soundbar, it sounds nicer then my old lg one.

        • Thanks for the idea ended up cancelling the Samsung order as you said JB-HIFI priced match it and picked up this afternoon instead of waiting till the 11th of January

  • I ordered on 20th. Booked for 2/1 delivery but no progress yet - it’s just “booked” and the courier company ANC doesn’t recognise the consignment. 2/1 is the next business day and I’d expect some progress.

Is this another lazy Australian retailer’s attitude to ecommerce? Just take the money and relax? I had something arrive from China yesterday, ordered on the same day…

    Anyone else seeing progress?

    • It's usually shipped from a local warehouse. Stays as booked until the day of delivery.

Have you received a text from ANC?

      • Good to know, could be delivered on 2/1 perhaps.

        No text from ANC.
