Funny, just bought for around $300 about a week ago with GCs that brought it down to about $255. Thanks anyway op.

    • +2

      Was that from this post?

    • Not as cheap as $300 but cheaper than this deal at $349 at JB hi-fi:

Have you claimed the up to $400 cashback and how is it?

      • Thanks!

      • +2

That cashback is for an overpriced beans subscription, not the purchase of the machine.

        https://earn-cashback.breville.com/en-AU/terms

        • For every 20 bags of coffee you purchase during the Purchase Period, Breville shall issue to you $100.00 cashback by way of bank payment, up to and until you reach the Full Cashback against the purchase of the Participating Product.
        • You must purchase 80 bags of coffee beans within the Purchase Period to obtain the Full Cashback against the purchase of the Participating Product.
        • Only coffee beans purchased on a subscription basis will apply towards your promotional cashback.
        • Weel looks not cheap. Only if they can stack with discounted bags which I assumed happened in past or maybe never.

    $298.89 last week

    • Yep, that’s the one

  • This is the same as the Barista Express minus the grinder?

    • +9

I don't like the grinder built in. More things to break down in the one unit.

  • is this any good compare to others? im kinda new to this

    • +1

This and the Bambino are considered the lowest possible cost entry that will actually get you decent espresso. You should still combine it with a capable grinder, good quality water and possibly an aftermarket filter basket for best results.

      • is this only work with capsules? or does it do beans aswell?

        • +1

          Only beans

        • +1

This is not a capsule machine. You'll need ground coffee or preferably, fresh beans and a grinder.

    • Double boiler is what OZB really recommends. Not sure what that means, but you can use the steam wand and the espresso pump at the same time maybe?

    • +3

The Infuser is a great espresso machine. I've had mine for about a year and can honestly say am enjoying the best coffee of my life.I say that as a coffee nerd for 30 years. There a bit of a learning curve, and if you're not interested enough to do some learning through the many excellent YT videos, it's probably not for you. If you are interested, don't hesitate to grab it at these prices. It's a little beauty.

    • +2

It’s a great machine, if you don’t need to do heaps of shots and steaming milk back to back then it’s the best you can get in this price range. Temp control, good set of accessories, and easy to use. The pump can be a little strong but if you hold down the shot button you stay in the 9 bar range the whole way so you can avoid channeling.
With a good grinder and some small cheap upgrades on the basket, WDT, etc, it’s hard to go any better until you get to the Dual Boiler, or going to a harder to use (though more moddable) Gaggia/Rancilo/etc.

Had this one for years. It works well, lots of guests comment how good the coffee tastes. Use it with a smart grinder pro and Aldi dark roast beans and it works a treat.
Only need to be careful not to tamp too hard, and it is slow and inconvenient to make lots of coffees at once. Also don’t go from steaming milk back to making a shot straight away as the hot steamed water will burn your coffee something cruel.
If you have lots of guests buy the dual boiler. If you want a coffee a day this will do reliably well

    • +2

This! I have the dual boiler but if it ever stops working I'd buy this one. I have the same setup with grinder pro and Aldi beans (medium dark).

      • Me too - bought this as my dual boiler needs seals replaced and while I wait this is a good backup.

If your machine breaks, consider a bambino plus as a replacement. Makes great coffee and it is very easy to do a few consecutive coffees, with minimal fuss…. and pretty quickly!

    • Can you just pump some water out to flush it after using steam wand, which will clear loose grinds and help heat the cup at the same time?

      • Yep. That is the way to go.

Its a thermoblock. They are better coming down from a hot temp, then ramping up.

People also say to turn it on 30 minutes before using. Pure madness. A thermoblock gets up to temp, then switches off…repeat.

Best bet is to steam your milk, give it a few seconds, purge, make your coffee. Applies to 99% of the machines out there. Delonghi auto makes a far better coffee this way.

        • Would that work? My delonghi dedica I find if I make a coffee, then steam milk, then go to make another coffee I need to purge through the steam wand. I'm not sure it even lets me purge through the coffee thing. I usually make one just for myself, being a Johnny No Friends, so it rarely happens.

          • @AustriaBargain: You are right. The Dedica purges through the milk wand, and inside the water tray. But thats still fine. Even though it has a booster steaming thermoblock, the coffee making thermoblock is used as the primary and gets pre heated when steaming milk.
Magnifica is easier to purge as you can open the valve manually, and only open it short of the pump switch.

        • I’d actually recommend shots first, then milk. Shots will hold themselves in a good state longer than the milk will hold its microfoam.

  • Waiting for it to be $300 again ;/

    • On the same boat + the grinder

Got this for $219 back in the day think it was bigw

  • One of my gripes with these machines and the Barista Express is that the water comes out as a single jet at the shower screen. Better machines have multiple outlets in a ring.

No one makes a single shot as you have 99% chance of it channeling at the outlet. Even double shots channel half the time. Especially if the pressure valve is set too high (mine is around 12 bar…I need to back off the OPV).

BUT..out of curiosity today I placed a top filter from a MAP pod on top of my puck (like the 5c test) on the right side (where the channeling jet comes from). Made 2 perfect single shots. I thought the BES makes a good coffee. The filter made it a great coffee.

To see if your machine is channeling, you will need an open bottomless portafilter and single wall basket. If it makes a spraying mess, you have channelling.

Cheap solution is to get a MAP pod, open it up and take out one of the filters. Place it on the right side of your puck.

    • Or it might be the shower screen is full of old coffee & needs to be removed & cleaned.

This actually needs to be done often.

      • Thanks, but no. Its a single point exit on thr entry level Breville machines. It actually works better when the shower screen is dirty.

        • I've noticed an improvement when I clean it out. The water comes out of all the holes that were previously blocked from old coffee.

I wouldn't think a single exit point would matter because of the slow pace the water comes out.

          • @WatchNerd: I guess if the left side was blocked, it would definitely help.
As for slow pace..its a 15 bar pump via a hole a few mm in diameter. While not huge, it is on the coffee scale.
There are a heap of tools to get even pucks..yet there is a hole blasting from one side!

Thats why its so hard to use the single wall single basket, as it doesnt have the depth of coffee to overcome the blasted hole. It will always channel on the right side.

            • @tunzafun001: I'm not an expert but I think pump pressure (15 bar) is different to flow rate.

Anyway I'm not saying your issue isn't happening, just trying to help fix it.

              • @WatchNerd: All good. Ive got a few machines to play with.
Just thought it would help those who dont make 9g single shots, as they taste thin/ weak in these machines.
The only reason they taste that way is because of the channelling. The major reason for that in this machine is not puck prep, but the water entry at the shower head.
A filter on the right side of the puck makes a single taste very close to a double in taste and texture.

  • $200 sounds lot better . Clearing out !

  • Wife wants to move from a separate grinder cause she makes too much mess!

    • Smart wife.
