When there is nothing better in Regional and Remote Areas, it is worth the price and investment.

  • where can I see what speeds people are getting with these? I am in apartment building and limited to 100/40 speeds and need more. Would this do it?

    • +3

Wont be any use to you in an apartment building, unless you live on the roof itself

      • I have top floor apartment with balcony that has large open area above

        • People go to the extent of placing these units on 10+ M poles above their house just so they dont get constant interruptions with satellites going out of range.
You would only get partial open skies from a balcony so its not practical at all.

where can I see what speeds people are getting with these?

      Here are some examples

      I am in apartment building

Won't be any good for you. Won't work on your apartment balcony. You need 100% clear view of the sky even on the top floor. You might even need to mount it on a 3 meter pole.

      100/40 speeds and need more

Starlink won't be much better to be honest. You might get more downloads (up to 200, 300mbps), but you will get less upload. Max I have seen is about 20/25.

      • thank you

      • +1

It will work with a little less than a 100% clear view, but there will be occassional dropouts here and there or reduced speed. I've used it at a campsite with trees around and it was pretty solid a lot of the time.

I certainly wouldn't use it if cabled internet is available though. It's meant to be a replacement for places without cabled internet, or with really slow internet.

We've had a Starlink connection for nearly 2 years and we sometimes get better than 100 down but not reliably.

  • Hi I cant see the ad of 2 months free?

      • Thank you mate. Does Roam have 2 months free as well?

        • The FB Link seems to indicicate residential only.

You should know if you are associated with Starlink as per your profile?

          • @geekcohen: sorry I didn't get you. But I bought it anyway..

  • How much for high Earth orbit?

    • Not available. Starlink is specifically LEO.

        I'm Aquarius,
        It would never work…

How much for high Earth orbit?

A 60GB plan will cost $4,950/month with speeds of up to around 0.5Mbps. If you go on a 12-month plan that'll drop to $3,095 a month.

That's for an Inmarsat BGAN service which is in high Earth geostationary orbit. That is why Starlink is such a game-changer. It doesn't suit every Inmarsat application but there's a good amount of overlap.

This deal is travelling through time-space fabric, finding the people on Ozbargain from over a decade without posting a single deal yet criticizing others. Just Caught One.
