  • Nice OP!
Planned to get one of these last week

  • +9

Ok but quality average. Timber posts started splitting after 1 week. Timber is very low quality and damage’s easily. Almost like Balsa it’s so soft. Looks good but I don’t think it will last long.

This is not a good product at all. The “hardwood” is a timber glued composite and the fixings are not at all suitable. It won’t last more than a few years even after sealing it with paint.

    Cheaply made and poorly designed

    read the 1/2 star reviews

Get what you pay for in this climate. Build it yourself for 3k if ya like.

      • +8

not sure why youd go to this much effort for something that sounds….kinda shit

        • +2

I don't think you understood what I said

      • $3k to build a 3x3 gazebo.
Do you have a surgeon building it?

        • +5

No.. the cost of purchasing the parts yourself.

          • +6

@diggityfish: I don't know why you got negged. I can see where you're coming from and for 3k, definitely better quality and of course bigger size too.

If anyone is paying 3k for a 3x3,… should hang around Ozbargain for longer and learn the ropes. ^_^

          • -5

@diggityfish: You're on some serious drugs if you think this would cost $3000

            • +6

@Sammy Boi: You must still be on an acid trip from 2019 if you think you can buy the wood and metal required to construct this much cheaper than 3k. Using hardwood.

Edit: the real point is you will do it for no where near $700

            • @Sammy Boi: If you have the timber and tools lying around and the skills to use them, it will cost less than $3k. If not, it will cost that or more these days, not including the cost of the "serious" drugs. Perhaps you are taking drugs that are just kidding.

        • +1

are surgeons cheaper than tradies ? (I dont know if i'd be surprised) - I think the quotes i got were more than 3k and under 3k doing it myself (i'm much lower on the healthcare foodchain) - this price did include buying tools and proper wood, perspex and not balsa

      • +7

Having bought timber and steel recently that shit is crazy expensive.

      • How about you get off the pipe….

This wouldn't cost anywhere near $3000 to build

        • You factored the eight ball of shards into that 3k bloke?

    • Termite attractor?

  • +3

What do you do on a windy day?

    • +8

You build it today, then sit and pray , it doesnt fly away on a cloudy day, in the neighbours yard where the kids run and play, the sky is gray, mayday mayday, i hear the neighbours say, i look outside and its flying away

    • +3

build a higher wind rated gazebo over the gazebo?

    • +1

Couple of guy ropes and pegs bruh. She ain’t going anywhere after.

    • +1

      Ratchet straps…..

    • +1

Do ya best, silicone the rest..

  • Hey OP how did you find RRP price? Looking at another one they have on clearance and interested if its actually a deal or if they just knocked off peanuts and calling it a fake clearance.

      • +1

        Brilliant!! Thank you 👍

        I was looking at..
Mimosa 3.66 x 2.95m Lava Brighton Louvre Panel Gazebo

On sale for $2200, from $2500.. wouldn't exactly call that ✌️ clearance ✌️

        • -1

Peace signs are not air quotes, otherwise spot on :)

    • +1

      Genuine clearance.
Tried to order some signage for our display of this gazebo the other day and was told by head office it's being discontinued so no signage available.
We only use the green and yellow 'CLEARANCE' overlay on item thumbnails on the website we are genuinely trying to get rid of.
Being a deal hunter myself I like to think I've got a tab on this kind of thing and I haven't seen any 'fake' clearances at Bunnings the entire time I've worked there.

      • Thanks for your reply.

By no means am I saying its fake clearance. I am however saying the clearance pricing is falling short of what one would expect (at least me) when using the term "clearance".

Normally retailer drop the price significantly vs what was previously advertised.. this is not the case with the item i was looking to purchase.

By contrast, Bunnings had Gearwrench sets on clearance at 50% off rrp vs this deal that is ~10%. Clearly chalk and cheese when comparing the savings. As such, the discount is not comparable and falls short of what one would expect for a clearance label.

        • Go look at colesworth. Some are barely 5% off for clearance items. Unfortunately for a lot of products and certainly convenience they are the go to.

  • Do you need a permit for this?

    • +5

The listing clearly states it's not a permanent structure, will blow away in the first storm.

      • But the neighbour will require one after blows into their backyard

    • This gazebo is intended as a semi-permanent structure - Please contact your local council for semi-permanent structure approval requirements

  • +5

It's Cedar, one of the softest types of timber available. It is a good price though. If you were to build this using quality hardwood, $700 wouldn't even buy you the 4 posts.

    • +6

This is the precise point I tried to make to others on this post, but they didn't understand it.

Yes, its meh quality, but its also really cheap.

I'm sure you could add some affordable changes to it to increase its strength/structural integrity.

      • +1

You're right ppl here have no idea how material cost has increased

        • +5

People know, they're just not accepting it

    • +2

Even pine is expensive these days, $280 just for 4 posts

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/90-x-90mm-2-4m-post-f7-h4-treate…

      • Buy those posts, get a tarp and rope, and bang, new gazebo

        • -1

Collect pine cones, plant em in the ground, 50-100 years later you're golden, your descendants can enjoy the shady spot you died of heatstroke under

    • +1

I helped to put together one of these for an in-store display.
The wood is indeed soft. Many holes aren't marked so need to make sure you're going into the middle of the beam (for some of the smaller beams) otherwise the wood can/will split.
Some of the screws are also low quality - make sure you have a good purchase of your driver otherwise it's easy to strip the screw heads.
Assembly instructions are straightforward, but the roof is assembled in two pieces that you hoist up on top of the frame towards the end.
The instructions suggest 2 ladders and 4 people to do this part. We used 4 people and a work assist vehicle (small cherry picker). Just food for thought.
Having said all that - this gazebo was a steal at $999 a few weeks ago. At $700 it's almost a no brainer.

Angled timbers/panels all around full or half sides down to ground make it carport with kind of steel wires with posts to concrete.

  • Need permit for this?

  • +8

Add four walls a door and a window and charge $700/week rent. Pays for itself in one week.

    • +5

Lease a 3x6 car port in CBD next to public toilets of some sort, build 2 side by side, buy 8 bunks and rent it $300 each per week for 16 overseas students.

Thats $4800 per week - $500 rent for carport.
Initial investmemt $1400 + approx $2500 for 8 bunks and mattresses.
You will start making money on week 2

    • +1

Do you really need a window?

      • +1

        Or a door?
