The software is pretty buggy, get lots of freezing using the inbuilt apps and I tried to play a 4k HDR file the other day and kept getting a HDR pop-up on and off.

I think the processor isn't fast enough, the new models (c805 or whatever it's called) have a better processor.

Having said that, I almost always use either an apple 4k tv, or the Xbox series x (for both games and 4k HDR movies), or watch FTA tv, or play regular movie files from the USB drive, and it works beautifully with all of those.

    • Thanks for the feedback. On my other TV (Hisense) I picked up the baby shield to run 4K and its also brilliant at AI based up scaling to 4K. Deals like this one to look out for https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/774474

    • I bought the 50inch one for 999 about 3 wks ago.
The firmware is kind of buggy but not that buggy.
Use adb to uninstall the bloatware and install some 3rd party ones will be all good

      • Hey, did you notice anything with the black bars in movies seems more grey in the dark? How's the motion/judder? Apparently recent firmware made it worse.

55 for $9xx, 50 needs to be close to $800 or less!

        • +1

i did not, use it mostly as a pc monitor.
for the android part, i use it for jellyfin media player only.
          the black bars seems normal.
i think that you may need to adjust the picture mode to make it work properly.
the motion thing is ok, as long as you disable all the "advanced features" and use everything with their "normal" mode, especially the charpening, motion and local dimming things

        • +1

Black bar issue is still present

          • @cille745: How noticeable is it during use? Is it only in a dark/no lighting condition?

    • So the apple tv 4k is a workaround to all the potential app issue? Would that also resolve any motion issues as well?

      • Keen to get an answer. Just got c845 and clearly motion in 4K is not perfect. A bit better when Dolby vision iq mode is disabled (Disney) but not perfect. Was thinking of testing an Apple TV

        • +1

True, I have a Nvidia Shield Pro, so was thinking if that would be a good enough workaround if I was to get the 50"

          • +1

            @Tbargain12: I have a 2017 Shield and a 55" c845 and happy with the setup.

The Shield handling apps is always better, and will be the same with an Apple TV.

My main issues have been with CEC (and ARC issues) controlling an Arylic H50 amp, but that's potentially not the fault of the TV. Also, the Shield can turn the c845 on, but doesn't turn it off when the Shield is off, despite all settings on each device being enabled.

            • @kongkurr: That's alright, I'm not concerned about CEC and remote side of things, I already juggle 3 remotes at the moment, I'm fine with that.

I'm more concerned about the TV's motion issue that might be caused by latest firmwares (according to forums), and how good the picture quality and local dimming/black details are.

              • @Tbargain12: Picture quality is very good. Local dimming is very good and it ll be obvious only if you watch from an angle (even subtitles on black bars). Will investigate the motion issue with my laptop as source when I get 30mn for myself

    • It's because the available firmware is crap. Update it to the most recent one (links on telegram) and it almost makes it a whole new TV

      • Did you have a link to the newer firmwares? Also, I assume you have the TV? If so, the newer firmwares have made a big difference?

          https://t.me/tclupdates

I have the C825. Currently running the V592 firmware (the same firmware as for c835 and c845). Massive improvements on the firmware available out of the box.

          • @thedavemiester: I didn't realize older models/different models use the same firmware? As in, are the firmwares for multiple model TVs all in the same firmware/download file?

  • Shame they dont have a good deal on the 75… holding out but this is a great price

    • +1

Agreed, but boxing day sales aint over yet !

Here is the new model coming so people can compare to what is next
      https://www.avcaesar.com/news/4375/tcl-c805-4k-ultra-hd-tv-m…

      • In terms of zones, the C805 televisions are much better equipped than the C835s of last year and relatively close to the C845s for 2023.

        From RTINGS:

They've started announcing some new models for 2024, but mainly their European lineup, which includes the TCL C805, C955, and X955. These models aren't released in North America, as TCL maintains separate, unrelated lineups for different regions, which is a bit disappointing as the X955 has impressive specs, with up to 5184 dimming zones and a peak brightness of around 5000 nits, according to TCL. We'll post more about the TCL 2024 TV lineup below as soon as we know more.

Are European models the same as Australian models?

        • Yeah, at least for the C845 model, we have the same builds as the UK and EU. America gets a different numbering system for their models.

      • Are we getting the C805 in Australia? How close would it be to the C845? And is the better chipset going to make much difference to performance?

    Any deals on the 65?

  • Would love to know if someone with this TV is using eARC and having any issues (and what receiver they're using it with). Seems like TCL's implementation of eARC is quite buggy giving distorted garbled audio every 5-10m or so. Not sure if it's been fixed in the 2023 higher end models like this one.

    • I have a Samsung Q800C connected via eARC to C845 and haven't found any problems. I turn both off all the time, takes about 1-2 seconds to reconnect.

As for the TV, can see how some would say the OS is a little bit slow, but nothing I find problematic. I haven't had other Google TVs before so wouldn't be able to compare.

    • I have a 65" TCL C835 and it hasn't missed a beat i use a Sonos Beam.

I haven't had any problems with the Google TV OS, I only use it to access the main streaming applications.

The only app that can be a bit buggy is Prime Video, sometimes the image flickers and strobes but i believe this is the prime application being poorly optimised for the TV, as none of the others have problems.

My way around this is run Prime Video on my Xbox Series X and watching the same content it is delivered perfectly.

      • We've had the TCL 55" 835 for the past year and no issues with the TV at all, Google OS works fine, I stream 4K Plex through wifi, hasn't missed a beat and the best picture we've had, worth noting that we haven't owned an OLED yet.

        • Ok good to know. I wonder if it's specific to TCL TVs -> HomePods or if it's just an issue with the older/lower end TCL TVs.

    • I had issues with the c825 and a Yamaha receiver. Updated firmware and it's fixed

i got the 50 inch bout a month ago, awesome TV and they priced match an online store for $949 then used my 15% off gift cards!

My first Google TV, menu is fine and TV is snappy. Haven't noticed any banding issues. Great TV!

  • Mini LED, blacks as good as OLED? (Not exactly the same)

    • Yes.. but not for high contrast white and black, like subtitles or stars. There is some blooming.

  • Got same price from JB.. they are same company so not sure why JB has the TV at $1195

  • Are there any deals on a 50 inch?

  • Anyone know if this runs really well with a PS5?

  • Still love my 55" EKO QLED. Fantastic Android TV.

  • Hey guys. Looking to purchase this tv to hook up to my gaming pc 4080 to play my single player games. Would this be suitable for 4K 144fps. Does this tv have hdmi 2.1? Thanks

  • WTF the price just went up to $1995

  • +2

Just picked up the tv from
Good guys. Set it up using the above YouTube link for best settings. I must say pretty impressive. This tv has replaced my Samsung q70t. Dolby vision looks awesome and I have hooked it up onto my pc and have been playing red dead redemption 2 and wow. Looks awesome. Happy with the purchase. I was looking at the Sony 55inch x90l for $1700. Happy to save some cash.
