Most Airalo eSIM packages activate (you have access to data) when the eSIM installed on your device connects to an allowed network at the destination.
This means that you must be located in your data package's country to be able to connect to a network. Therefore, if you're still at home, please don't try to activate your eSIM because you won't be able to connect to the local network.
At this time, when your eSIM connects to the local network, the validity of the eSIM starts.
However, for some eSIMs, the validity period starts at the installation. Therefore, we suggest installing the eSIM a day or a few hours before your trip, otherwise, you'll waste precious days of your data plan.
