Yes, all the amaysim SIM packs I've bought from supermarkets allow you to active on the PAYG plan.

@Fobsessive: That's how I am using mine too. I used to convert to the $60 talk and text only plan, but realised I don't really use it that much. So just leave it in PAYG, can change plans later if needed.

Only for a limited duration. From reading other comments in other deals, the face value written on the SIM pack is "promotional credit", which expires in 12 months. So you can use the remainder of the credit to buy data (which apparently never expires unless your PAYG plan expires), or maybe you can use some of the credit to renew your PAYG plan after 11 months and 29 days.
Amaysim have recently changed their system to remove PAYG option from plan activation on sim packs. Once a pack is activated you can change the plan to PAYG, but it only changes after the current one expires.
I was told that now only the $2 sim can be activated as PAYG.
I was able to purchase a $50 80GB sim pack in July for $18, activate it as PAYG and then change plan to $60 365 day Talk & Text for $10, however attempting to do the same thing early September with a $50 120GB sim pack, there was no PAYG option on activation. I activated as 120GB thinking I could change the plan to PAYG and thence to $60 Talk & Text, but when I changed to PAYG, it only changed after the current plan expired.
I was able to get Amaysim to credit back the $50 and change the plan to PAYG, but interestingly the 120GB plan still stands but now with no data (although still with 28 days unlimited Talk & Text) and the plan doesn't change to PAYG until after this current plan expires.
Amaysim seem to have wised up to the discounted loophole.

@Magic Mirror: Yes, both sim packs purchased from Woolworths IIRC, however the first $50 80GB sim pack appears to have been replaced with a newer $50 120GB sim pack, so if you can still find a $50 80GB sim pack perhaps the trick will still work. I expect Amaysim have taken advantage of updating the packs to change the conditions.

@tonester: Whilst getting Amaysim to make the change may still be possible, it can't be done by the customer themselves as easily as before.
I bought a $40 pack today and was pleasantly surprised to find that I could pay for it (at self checkout) with a WW gift card.
In the past when I tried to do this at WW it failed with "invalid payment method" or some such, and staff told me that SIM packs were treated like gift cards and hence couldn't be paid for with gift cards. That was a couple of years ago with a $119 Amaysim pack.

Not for Belong. I only see no in your link redirect and my experience years ago. I would say possible no for all Telstra network SPs in Woolies.
i've bought Belong packs within the past year using gift cards - unlike recharge vouchers, mobile starter packs are not considered gift cards
@tonester: Anyway, the recent post also shows not paid by giftcard. I still hold my view: Different SPs are still treated differently in Woolies.
amaysim $30 SP can be paid by $EDR but the purchase may crash the machine with no payment.
@tonester: The system only tightens up on these things. The only possible is: $45 SP is the updated version of $40 SP, which may be coded incorrectly. I couldn't pay $25 or $40 SP with eGC years ago. Since then, I never consider it as an option.
