if yours driffs just fix it - every easy. replacement from aliexpress $7-10

      • +1

        What part needs replacing?

        • +3

          Thumbstick unit

        • the joystick thing. the one that you spin round round everyday
also if your lock mechanism worn out, then that round lock thingie

        • +3

No need to repair or replace… I just use electrical contact cleaner sprayed straight into the mechanism… google is your friend here

          • @qtvinsta: Doesn't always work, as the mechanism can be worn beyond repair.

To reach the mechanism, you have to tear it down to the board and it doesn't take much more to replace the whole unit while you're there.

The whole point of the electrical contact cleaner method is that you don’t need to open up your Joy Con, and that it’s easy enough for even a kid to DIY.

You just shift aside the rubber flap on the joystick, hit it with a quick spray of electrical contact cleaner through a tube, wiggle the stick around a bit, then see if that was enough to resolve it.

            • @silverrat23: Nah, just use toothpick or similar to lift flap under the stick… no other tools required

          • @qtvinsta: yes spray, or there are youtubes about putting paper aswell but i just change, feel new feel good baby

            • @CyberMurning: Before contact cleaner i tried paper to add pressure which didnt work so ended up just replacing the module just to have it begin to drift again…. but that was before i found out about the contact cleaner. Easily the simplest and quickest way to stop drift whenever it starts to drift.

      • 2 of the buttons don’t register sometimes. It’s super annoying

        • Contact Nintendo Australia. I've sent in my second Joycon that needed fixing after drifting, as long as you have proof of purchase (I take photos of all my receipts) The receipt was Dec 2019. They have fixed it and are sending it back to me.

          • @splicer: wow thats amazing too bad i bought my unpatched second hand :D

Oh jeez I remember when $69 was a deal. Thought this was an upgraded deal for a second there. Thanks for sharing op!!

    • $69 huh :) NICE

  • Really want the switch pro Zelda edition but no sale

  • Would jbhifi or bigw price match?

    • +4

Yes to JB, try their chat

    • Yes, I just price matched 2 of them via JB chat.

      • +1

How does jb chat pricematch work? Does it get added to cart with a new price or is payment processed over the chat?

Just wondering since i have a discount coupon that can be used

        • +3

They share a link that has the discounted price in the cart

  • +2

    They’re matching The Gamesmen

  • +1

    Is JB chat cooked??

Got mine 6 years ago @5x, of course with all the code, cashback and gift card I could stack up.

  • As someone who received a Switch for Christmas - do i need this? How does the pro controller differ from attaching 2x joycons to the provided frame?

    • You don’t need one
      It’s a great addition though
      https://gamerant.com/joy-con-vs-switch-pro-controller/

    • +4

Single greatest add-on in the switch catalogue

    • If you have big hands/long fingers like yours truly, and you play couch co-op games at home, joy con's are annoyingly small.
My 14yo daughter has her mum's hands, so we both need bigger controllers when playing co-op.

        @Yeah OK

If you have big hands/long fingers like yours truly

        I heard you called? 🙃

How did you know that I have big hands/ long fingers? 😅😅

Kidding aside, I feel the same way - I use a switch pro controller as primary controller for switch gaming. Personally as well - the joy cons are way too small and ‘floaty feeling’ to be comfortable for enjoyable gaming IMO.

    • +1

no, but get an 8bit pro if you want a controller upgrade

  • I've not tried these as an alternative but they are on special also for < $72.

    YouTube reviews look OK.

Like cerealsmok3r, I bought ProControllers for < $70 so would wait for that, unless you need them today! It could be a long wait though…

GuliKit is known to have some quality control issues, so your experience with them can be highly variable, i.e. some people will have zero issues, others with get stuck buttons, slight jankiness with the joysticks, etc, due to obstructions from part lines.

For the price and fulfilled by Amazon, you could give them a try. Or go with the 8bitdo Ultimate (Bluetooth version) if it goes on sale.

    • +1

For anyone considering the GuliKit Kingkong 2 Pro Controller, I have it and the input lag is noticeable.

      • Hmmmm… I ordered one for my daughter yesterday. If it is not fit for purpose (i.e. lag) I will return it.

Thank you for your comment. I will ensure we evaluate the lag. As per pj1351's comment, some have issues, some have none. I'll see how the luck comes out…

I've always had the pro controller and preferred that for my daughter but it had not gone on special, so thought to try the GuliKit.

        • Anecdotally, the build quality on my controller is very good. I found that when I play Tetris 99 back to back with joycons and the Gulikit there is a noticeable difference. I also tried Mario Kart 8 and timing the jump boosts is much easier on the joycons.

          • @ertert: She's mad for Mario Kart so we'll be seriously checking that. Thank you. 🙂

  • I got an 8BitDo ultimate bluetooth for my daughter. She loves it. They're the same price as the Switch pro controller.
I can't say I've tried the Switch pro controller. Is it better than the 8BitDo?
Should I get this pro controller for myself? Or get another 8BitDo ultimate?

    TIA.

    • 8 bit is way better. my pro controller drifts like my joycons. unusable

      • Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for a good 8BitDo special

        • +1

make sure it has hall effect joysticks

          • @belongsinforums: Yes, I got my daughter the 8BitDo Ultimate with Bluetooth. It has the hall effect joysticks.

            • @Yeah OK: You can wake the switch with it by shaking the controller

              • @belongsinforums: My daughter read this comment and is now shaking the controller vigorously, to turn it on.
I told her to get off her lazy bottom and to just push the button on the console, but……no. Lol.

                • @Yeah OK: combinationof pressing home button and shaking. sorry. it wakes it but doesnt turn it on if that makes sense

    • +1

Besides the form, the 8BitDo is more of an upgrade than the Switch Pro controller because it uses Hall Effect sticks, extra mappable buttons, adjustable rumble feedback, customisable sticks, and a charging dock. The Pro controller only comes out during party or co-op sessions now.

  • +4

Man, what is going on when $80 is a bargain for a console controller…

Not knocking the deal, just Nintendo's pricing.

    • +1

I mean u may have a different definition of bargain. If I was in the market to buy a controller and everywhere else is selling $99 and this is $79 Im happy with it

      • "Not knocking the deal"

    • +1

Agree. Why are the genuine controllers so pricey now?
I got an imitation pro controller from Amazon for 20 bucks - ozbargain special - it still works beautifully.

  • $80 is crazy, I paid $65 years ago for one of these, then amazon lost it and sent another, and then the first one showed up a month later and they told me to keep it 😭

100% worth getting one of these though, its a hugely better experience, plus the battery life on these is amazing

    • 100% this. You do need one if you have a switch, joycons and the doggo shape grip holder are just too smol for my hands.

The battery life is insane, even if it's warning you that it needs charging, you can get another 1 or 2 sessions in, then it charges very quickly. The PS4 feels like I'm charging every few days.
