First time posting so go easy on me. Was looking for an affordable AM5 Mini ITX motherboard and found this. The MSI MPG B650I Edge is $50 dollars cheaper but has known EXPO issues and drained CMOS battery issues. This motherboard is almost $100 dollars cheaper than anywhere else and near all time low of $399.68.

First time posting so go easy on me.

Was about to sharpen the pitchforks and ready the torches. But you did good op. Your post got all the info required. Pitchforks and torches stashed away.

  • +3

Hmm B ITX board is not cheap these days

  • +5

Overpriced, why a mini motherboard cost more than $400???

      • +4

Just like having a small form factor set up dawg. Not that deep.

          • +9

@thesmartone1125: The instant response is crazy. Bro is chronically online and trying to start an argument on a deals forum. Pick a struggle man. Go outside and enjoy the beauty of nature or something.

    • +2

Realistically it's because despite the more complex engineering and manufacture process to create a reliable small form factor platform they will sell less units compared to regular size atx.

Predicting using their market data how many units they will sell priced at different price points all the companies have come to a similar realisation that they make the same profit selling 20,000 of these at $500 than 100,000 at $350 (maths doesn't work I know, just here to emphasise/exaggerate a point).

Was looking for an affordable AM5 Mini ITX motherboard

I don't know anything about mini PCs but seriously is $400 considered affordable???

    4x DDR5 Slots

    Are you sure?

    • +2

Same, the second sentence has made me question reality lol, when has $400 became affordable lol…

      • -1

        when has $400 became affordable

Your after tax $100,000 salary makes it affordable LOL

    • +1

It's definitely not affordable, you're right but I meant that sentence in the context of ITX motherboards for AM5. It's the second cheapest motherboard I've seen than can support a 7800X3D. Usually, ITX products come with an "ITX tax", especially for motherboards so they tend to be much more expensive compared to their ATX counterparts.

    • "Affordable" is subjective, but given the plethora of cheaper, well-regarded options out there (MSI's Mortar board is frequently under $300 and is still solidly mid-range) I sure as hell wouldn't call it good value.

I sure as hell wouldn't call it good value

I had no idea that a motherboard for this small size PC would cost like a premium ATX one.
But the OP hit and run and doesn't even follow the non bargain (other than advertising) his first post on Ozbargain.

        Memory Support: 4x DDR5 Slots

It tells me that this guy is not going to build anything!

        • Hey man, that's my bad, I didn't catch the 4x DDR5 slots. I just copied and pasted the specifications from Mwave. Yeah, power supplies for mini-itx builds, generally also cost more. If there's anything wrong with my post other than the number of ram and m.2 slots which I edited, feel free to correct me. I'm not sure what you meant by your second statement.

            @Sanitygone:

            Hey man

            Hey dude.

I'm not sure what you meant by your second statement.

If I'm going to buy a motherboard, the first thing I do is to carefully read the description on the website where I plan to buy it from to avoid to buy a wrong or a dupe item also that affordable tag doesn't make your post look better than a standard one.

      • The MSI Mortar range is on the mATX form factor unfortunately. While I'm sure it's a great value board, there's slim pickings when it comes to mini-ITX boards which can support a 7800X3D. There's only 6 on the market and they range from $350 to $635 dollars.

        • Sorry, missed the ITX part of it. Makes the price a bit more explicable. My bad.

The MSI MPG B650I Edge is $50 dollars cheaper but has known EXPO issues and drained CMOS battery issues

i believe these have been mostly resolved with bios updates. mine is flawless.

    • the CMOS battery issue would be a hardware issue, so unless they changed something in the design or the manufacturing process it would still remain in some batches

  • +1

The best overall b650 itx mobo would be the Asus one which is currently 437 on Amazon. I would personally go with that one instead. Actually if you using non x cpu you can just get the a620 itx mobo. Around 400 price range is reasonable for an itx mobo.

    • +1

that's a pretty good deal, possibly worth posting on its own as a deal. just note that it has very frequent reports of coil whine from users.

  • Unless you're running a CPU with no power limit why not this for $200 less? https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B083RVN2VG

    • This is for a 7800x3d build and I'm pretty sure A620 motherboards are designed for CPU's with lower than 100 watt TDPs.

      • it's fine for the 7800x3d, which is a lower than 100 watt CPU. one significant drawback is it has only a single m.2 slot

  • +1

Thanks for the post OP. I have been waiting on B650 ITX deals - for a 7800X3D ITX build as well.

Good insights on the MSI, wasn't aware of those.

Ignore all the negative comments here. As much as the price is steep for motherboards, if you're in the market for AM5 ITX today, this is a good price for the Gigabyte.

if anyone is also looking to buy RAM as well, b650i lightning off newegg is a great deal. actual AUD price is dependent on conversion rate, it is 345 aud at time of writing

    price is just NOPE

    • can you find it cheaper?

  • +1

I was deciding between this board and the MSI for my ITX build and based off reviews, I went with the MSI board. The layout of the Gigabyte board was quite bad.

I was worried about the issues with boot times on the MSI board but once I updated the BIOS and turned on Memory Context Restore, my boot times on my 7800X3D are around 15s.

Current cheapest for the MSI with free shipping $349.
