@Klagan: And HE represent the Chinese government :)

              • -1

@Klagan: Oh, now YOU speak as as representative of Chinese government….

                  • @Klagan: Chinese firewall is not for that, it's to prevent local people in mainland to read 'inappropriate' news.

                    • @Klagan: What is this your obsession with CP? Was that your collection or performance?

                        • @Klagan: Yes, but why you repeat this all the time? Some kind of obsession?

I don't even know who is this guy, but you repeated that in every post… R U OK?

Give your personal data directly to FSB! What a brilliant idea! Help Russia spy in Australia. The last cyberattack that paralysed Aussie ports for 2 days was conducted by Russian hackers.

    • +13

youre also contributing profits and taxes that fund the mass slaughter of civilians and occupation of Ukraine,

      • +4

Yeah don't give them real currency

  • +7

Good if you're seeking a company or country with a higher ethical standard

    • -1

But your country's ruling bigot, terrorist supporter corrupt bastard is free to offend Australia. so, now did I offend your country?

      • -1

We offer you cheap netflix, spotify, google one, xbox subs etc

        Please be grateful.

        • -1

Does this answer my question? Apparently, you support that insulting bastard. Ignorance is bliss!

  • Trust my data to be in the US than in Russia. Next

Good if you're seeking a company or country with a higher ethical standard than the US and co. to store your personal data.

self-hosting using open source software like nextcloud/seafile/syncthing/etc or a (also oss) tool to encrypt data uploaded to cloud hosts like cryptomator are the only actually good solutions to the problem of 'ethical' and private cloud hosting. end of story.

    • What’s the actual bonus to using nextcloud etc over my current method of storing my data on a NAS at home and using a VPN (wireguard/openVPN etc) to access it?

      What does NextCloud get me?

      • that works good too! my list of ways to selfhost isn't exhaustive, but i do suppose that using nextcloud on a raspberry pi with an external hard drive is a bit cheaper than a nas (although it is obviously not a comprehensive replacement).

        • Yeh I’ve got a docker instance too, but haven’t added nextcloud yet, as I’m honestly not sure what benefit it’d give me.

I guess if you’re starting out, your method of a Pi + drive(s) would be a lower entry point

        • nextcloud has severe issue with uploads and speed. dirty php

          • @memez: use seafile then! much faster, albeit less features. it's also more lightweight and runs exceptionally on a rpi.

            • +1

@lachlantula: yeah tried that decent but as you mention features. Google Drive and Cryptomator is the only real secure way or NAS with Cryptomator then cloud app to sync

  • I miss using the Yandex Taxi app

    Am happy with m 365.

    • So you would upload your data, including potential workplace information, to them?

    chiki briki i vdamke

I am not giving a single cent to Russian economy. this is one of those regimes that shouldn't be allowed to exist

    • +1

to those who dv, I experienced it first hand - a former Russian citizen, I graduated from Russian school with gold medal

happily flushed my Russian passport down the toilet years ago, and it's a joy to be able not to associate myself with this trash state any more

human life is worth less than 5 cent in Russia, if even that. it's all BS that they care about "rights" or "laws" these are all just words they juggle in your face, while all they care about is $$$ in their offshore banks

    • +2

I don’t know what to do with this information.

  • Да комяадз

In the US, companies may sell your data for profit, but in Russia or under the CCP, your data could be used to land you behind bars

  • with bonus free kgb-sponsored data analysis service

geez lots of people passing made up opinion as fact (on both sides).

the most important question is what are the ping & connection speeds like?

handy for storing backups of purchased media which other services might just mistake for illegal copyrighted material

  • +1

    Yandex, the Russian internet company?

WTF, is this a troll post?

    • Yes clearly joking.

    • I hope it's a troll post

  • Is rather store with Google

  • I'm just going to store all my data on a hard drive taped to an antipersonnel mine I keep in the local playground sandpit. Still more ethical than most of the current crowd.

/s (the former, not the latter)

  • I had a free Yandex email account for years mostly to avoid spam when making pre-sales enquiries. I found it was getting blocked at the height of the Ukraine invasion media coverage. I ended up deleting it cause it simply wasn't useful from all the blocking. It might not be the case any more now a lot of companies have returned to trading in Russia even if they aren't officially.

  • +1

Storing your data in a dictatorship to keep it secure is seriously stupid.

  • Pretty Good deal. I was looking at these guys for while.

  • Lol

  • +3

    Putin Huylo

    • +1

      Pootler is disgusting

  • +2

Wow, such politically charged hate comments. And it is so simple as well - Russia is bad, USA is good. You don't even have to think much right? It is surprisignly easy to brainwash people and to instill hate.
Politics aside, as for the privacy concerns. Do you really think that Russian spies will steal your kitten photos? Or what are you going to store there? Military tech drafts?

    • -1

I sure hope you're not one of those Kremlin bots, as that's one of their main lines - "let's change the subject to Russia vs Country XYZ and see who wins at being disgusting". plus accusing everyone else of exactly what they are doing

instilling hate, for instance, is that what you mentioned? have you ever watched Russian news? it is 95% xenophobia and racism, all to paint the picture of the world outside Russia even worse than within - so that common Russians think, oh wow our country is actually great! doesn't matter that we have fake democracy and people kill each other for a bottle of vodka twice a day on average. we have culture and moral standards that are second to none! yeah right.

for example I lived in Russia and Ukraine for years, and on countless occasions saw how Russian state media portrayed events I witnessed myself or was part of: all twisted and xenophobia infused, with just enough real facts in it to call it credible, but all distorted to fit their malicious narrative.

Russia is one of the most brainwashed countries in the world, it's very sad. and now millions of lives are ruined because of sick Pootin's ambitions, too. it's not very funny, whatever way one looks at it.

      • +1

You are so wordy because you don't really have much to say. Well I do this is why I am brief.
First of all, this is a deals website. I don't care about Russia, I don't care about Ukraine. I am just trying to find some deals without anyone trying to impregnate my brain with some stupid ideas.
And secondly, the idea that it is an evil Putin who decided to start a war on his whim just to make everyone suffer is as immature as idealistic. This is a real world, based on economy, figures and science, not just some emotional crap. Wake up.

        • -3

I didn't say pootin is emotional, I know exactly what this war is about, and it's natural resources

grow up, counting pennies won't get you there.

  • +1

    HAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH.

    No.

Drawing inspiration from Roman Hrybov, "Яндекс, иди на хуй". Supporting Yandex supports Russia's war machine. Even if you don't care about the war, do you want to hand your data over to the Russian security services?
