  • Nice one, bought one to go with the Leatherman Skeletool I’ll be getting soon.

Perfect for those times you unexpectedly need a letter opener or inch ruler or used toothpick, and you also brought your physical wallet with you too.

    • +2

Out of luck if you need a knife.

      • +1

The letter opener is actually fairly sharp (as far as letter openers go). It can easily cut the tape on amazon boxes, for example. It would struggle to cut the cardboard though.

It's illegal to carry a knife in a public place, but a letter opener… :-)

        • +2

          Swiss army letter opener.

        • Will airport security let through a letter opener? I'm always worried I'll forget to remove my SAK when travelling - and they don't give em back !

    • The knife is sharp and useful.

I found one in a used car I purchased and bought one when that got lost

      • +1

'Twas a bit of a joke. Lotsa negs - seems I hit a nerve with some people. I hope anyone with a Victorinox Swiss Army SwissCard Classic is most overjoyed with their functional companion for their wallet. Especially with the letter opener.

I think the old smiley face at the end shows it's a joke. Came across serious

          • @Skullytor: What else do you want the person to do to make sure it doesn’t offend the humourless mass? Preposition the joke with a disclaimer at the start to say that it’s a joke?

Perhaps apologise in an advanced post to give a massive forewarning to the dim-witted for what’s about to come?

Amazon JP is 3300 yen. A mark up of more than 15%. Not a deal.

  • Can we carry this in places having metal detectors? Just worrying if I carry these and beeps metal detectors anywhere..

  • Thanks for the post, I bought one of these years ago and it came in use many times. Lost a couple of pieces out of it so have ordered a fresh set.

I think I got this exact one (in red) when I was a kid. barely used it but I thought i was the coolest person on the street with this in my pocket. I also remember it being around $27 in store. normal covid prices now?

wait I just found one part of the set now. I never knew it came from this, but I still have the scissors I use them to open small packages (cut tape) in my room. they do feel very awkward when trying to hold/use them though because they are so small and only one circle (I just open it, hold it like a knife and cut the tape - don't both trying to "scissor" something it's near impossible). most of the set I found largely useless. I might have used the nail file once or twice.

  • It's worth noting that the AFP seem to have a thing against these credit card shaped knives, ironically because they don't look like a knife, which is presumably why you no longer see them sold in Australia vs. The multitude of swiss army knives, multitools with key chains, etc.

It may be prudent to buy a microswiss army knife or leatherman instead of this, just saying.

    • presumably why you no longer see them sold in Australia

They do sell them in Australian stores, both online and b&m stores.

      • I see them too - in store

Used to carry one but airport security pulled it apart and left me with only a little bit of it.
I now keep a metal credit card sized metal tool that is one piece without problems. No tweezers or pen on it . But can measure , pen and unscrew things easily with it. Also great for scratchies.

    • Is it because of knife or any other parts were a problem too ?

      • Knife and scissors were taken by security.

It's a no brainer why they wouldn't allow you on the plane with it - it has a knife.

      • I've actually accidentally brought a Swiss keychain knife on a plane. I have so many keys and stuff hanging off it the person looking at the scanner must not have noticed the knife and I totally forgot about it. I think I was at my destination when I realised I brought it with me.

As I only took carry on, I mailed the little knife back in a letter.

Unfortunately my ma-in-law borrowed my carry on case and I didn't realise my special Alps Victorinox knife was in there, she didn't check all pockets when packing. Bye bye. That was sad, it was a gift from dad and can't buy it anymore

  • My in a bit worse for wear. I'll CLR it to see if I can loosen the scissors and get rid of surface rust

  • This or the Swiss Card Lite? It seems the Lite is a little more useful (lose tooth pick and nail file, gain light and magnifying glass)?

    • +1

Purchased this for $7 more. It has magnifying glass + 4 set screwdriver but loose knife.

Yes knife is one of the most used tool but advantage is this is more likely to be allowed in carry on bags in flights..

      • +1

Thanks but I'm pretty keen on the knife.

        • +2

Having owned both, the light on the SwissCard Lite is pretty useless and is just a gimmick. The screwdriver is pretty useful though.

I don’t think the “lite” worth the premium over the “classic”.

          • @guidedlight: Cheers, appreciate the feedback. Screwdriver though seems pretty great on the nailand lite version and quite useless on the classic. Decisions decisions…

Any other thoughts on the lite vs classic vs nail (if you have it)?
