Focal Chora 806 Bookshelf Speakers Pair $675 Delivered @ Addicted To Audio

850

Focal Chora is listed as B-Stock, but there is a 95% chance you will get brand new speakers.

[EDIT 2] Addicted To Audio have since clarified the reason they marked the Focal Chora Speakers as B-Stock is because they discovered some of them have slight wear and tear on the veneer finish. It's only a very small portion of their stock, but because they can't check every speaker, they just labeled all of the inventory B-Stock. If you buy the Chora 806 or 816, there is a 95%+ chance you will get brand new stock.
Black Colour no longer available for Chora Speakers.

Focal Aria and Aria K2 are still marked as brand new.

[EDIT] Only B-Stock is available. These are basically used speakers so expect cosmetic wear and tear.
Addicted To Audio have been trying to ship B-Stock on orders for brand new, so be careful and make sure you call them and clarify what they are shipping you.

AddictedToAudio have dropped the price on Focal Speakers even further. These speakers are now even cheaper than what their European customers have to pay.

who do you think is 'reputable'?

here's the thing… a lot of euro companies are not well represented in australia and they dont get good exposure from US or UK or English speaking media for obvious reasons. That doesnt mean the French or Germans or the Italians dont know what they're doing.

    • +1

      LOL for stupid hunches

      • thanks for the insight

    • You were literally given a review for the 816 in the OP by the most respected audio reviewer on the internet.

      • oh, i completely missed it, sorry. weird i couldn't find it on google though.

  • +1

The matching stands for the bookshelf models are half priced too.

Price is pretty good especially given the inflation, if you like the sound signature of focal speakers. They are high quality audiophile speaks. I bought my dynaudio with similar discount a couple years ago and very glad I did that, good investment for many years to come. My first pair of decent speakers are British made tannoy more than 30 years ago. the old english sound is a bit too coloured to my taste now but I still like them more than most of the speakers on market today. So don't worry too much about speakers breaking down,(unless you do stupid things to damage your twitter) they last long and they age well.

If you haven't been listening to a pair of focal, better try before buy. Their sound is quite 'exciting', to me not neutral enough, but the sound I like many people find too boring, so try and make sure you get what you like.

    • The question is what colour to get though…

      • depends on your room furnishing

  • How is Chora 816 compared to Wharfdale Diamond 12.3 as they are in same price range. 12.3 is rated highly by What Hici.

    I currently have 3020i.

    • Do not trust whathifi, they are not reliable.

    • I would also be interested. Polk s15 here

  • Excuse my ignorance on Bookshelfs, but are the 806's ideal as rears/surrounds in a 5.1 set up in a decent sized room?

    • +1

They are overkill for rear/surround imo.

  • Stands are almost half price too if your interested.

  • How do you think the 806s would compare to my current Tannoy Mercury M2s for listening to vinyl?

Got an email from Addicted To Audio last night, telling me they oversold the item I ordered (Black Chora 806) and they have insufficient stock. Told me I could order a different colour if I wanted, but the store page is only listing B-Stock. If they want to try and push out B-stock onto my order, I'll definitely be cancelling.

    • +1

Same email. I said as long as its not B stock to fulfil otherwise issue refund

      • +1

What's your experience with B stock with them or other hifi suppliers? I had a read and didn't see too much of an issue

    • I got the same email and ended up cancelling my order because they tried to give me B stock (a bit cheekily tbh). Bit disappointing how it’s turned out.

  • I wonder if they'll discount the focal floorstanding speakers further…

  • Got the email telling me they oversold and asked if I wanted to switch color. Responded over 24 hours ago, haven't heard back and they're not answering their calls.

Looks like I'll be reporting them to the ACCC.

    • -4

Not sure why you were downvoted by some bootlickers, but this is an extremely dishonest business practice.

    • +3

I didn't neg you but "over 24 hours ago" is literally the first business day after the long weekend after a major sale event.
That's not a long time to wait for an email reply at all.
And what exactly are you reporting to ACCC, that they ran out of stock?

      • +3

I wouldn't want to suggest that the average OzB member is extremely ENTITLED, but…

      • -1

We're up to 40 hours now without a response.
I also neglected to mention I called up yesterday morning, and was told by the salesman he'd check the system and call back shortly. Never got a call back.

At the end of the day, I'm $850 out of pocket right now (because I bought a pair of stands too). If a retailer cannot fulfill a transaction for whatever reason, they should be moving as quick as possible to refund money to the customer. The way I see it, they're sitting on their arses being lazy. It should be a very straight-forward stock check; I shouldn't have to be waiting two full days while they've already pocketed my $850.

        • +4

The second business day still hasn’t passed since you sent that email. I’m sure it wouldn’t meet your expectations, but most businesses operate on 8-hour day, rather than the full 24 hours.
They probably have thousands of orders, emails, phone calls to go through, let alone checking stock, packing and sending orders.
Even if they initiate your refund this instance, the bank wouldn’t finish processing it until 3 business days later. Are you gonna report the bank to ACCC too?
Calm your horses, your refund / remedy will come through.
Regarding receiving B-stock, if this is indeed the case, politely decline their offer and ask for a refund, and no, it ain’t likely to be instant. That’s just the nature of online shopping and electronic payments.

      • Also judging from some of the other recent replies here, Addicted To Audio have tried to ship people B-Stock to people who didn't order B-Stock.

And you don't think the ACCC would be interested in this kind of dispicable practice?

        • Sadly not, they're pretty toothless except for the big stuff like Qantas ripping off tens of thousands of customers. ACL is the only thing that'll help you here, which is why credit card chargeback is the option customers will probably end up pursuing if they can't resolve it with the so-called retailer in a timely manner.

        • -3

And that's something they can complain about, but that's not what was reported here before the "I'm off to waste a public servant's time" stuff.

  • +2

So I don't even get a courtesy email asking if I would like the B stock or an apology, simply an email today saying the B stock is packed will ship in 45 minutes. I tried to call them and ask but they are ignoring calls for today it seems.

This is extremely shady and not what I expected from this business. Will be pursuing this further with the ACCC.

    • Assuming you didn't accidentally purchase B grade to begin with, reject the delivery if you can. Otherwise try to sort out a reasonable resolution with them within a logical timeframe (reasonable might be discount, or them collecting them for full refund). Last resort - credit card chargeback for "goods not as described" & onus will fall on them from the credit card company to do the correct thing, or show evidence that what they sold is what they delivered (screenshots help with this).

      • +1

Definitely didn't. Original invoice still says the 806 like normal, now the amended one they've said includes "B stock" at the end.

I'd be open to all of those resolutions, so I will see what they say when and if I hear from them.

But essentially trying to dupe me, moments before they ship the item with no communication and ignoring calls/emails has left me feeling pretty annoyed.

        • +1

ATA got in contact with me this afternoon and were very nice about the situation. Basically explained that all stock (regardless A or B) had been labelled B because they couldn't tell which ones were imperfect because of the veneer.

tl;dr They told me they've been shipped. If you end up with one that is imperfect, feel free to return it for a full refund. Sounds good to me.

          • @pharcyde: Removing the over-reacting fun. Not good of them, eh?

            • @mickeyjuiceman: I think they could've done a better job at communicating the issue beforehand, but they were perfectly reasonable when coming to a solution.

The rep made it sound like most of the stock is in fact A, but is selling as B. But we'll see. Hopefully everyone here gets a good set!

            • -3

@mickeyjuiceman: mate you are worthless rubbish, every one of your replies is asinine.

    • This is basically cheating customers

  • 906 or 906 K2?
At this price range shall I pull the trigger?

    • Did you end up buying either model? I'm trying to decide myself.

      • +1

I got the K2 906, but it's waiting for ages to get shipped
Bought 12 days ago, not yet shipped

        • How frustrating! Would love if you could also provide an update on your thoughts once the speakers arrive 🙂

  • +1

They tried to ship B-Stock to me. Made sure to cancel my order before they did.

For everyone who bought Focal Choras, I would suggest you call up as soon as possible to clarify what they are trying to ship you.

  • I asked the customer service and they replied me "titling has been changed (alongside the price reduction) to accomodate a low chance of any imperfections, which is unlikely". And I just received the speaker, will be unbox them later to check if the are brand new or not.

    • They conveniently left the price unchanged.

  • +2

I’ve never gotten anything B-Stock from A2A that wasn’t essentially brand new just with the box opened.

Anyone like OP that is saying that it’s essentially used is 100% wrong

    • -3

It's all about confected outrage, you know

  • I got a call from Addicted To Audio and they clarified why they marked the Choras as B-Stock (explained in the OP).
I decided to take a punt and picked up a pair of 806 with the dark wood finish. Looks brand new to me, don't see any blemishes and it works fine.

    • Same with me. Don't see anything to indicate its even b-stock

      • -2

Most people knowledgeably discussing "b-stock" have zero idea what the term means, but that's not stopping them

        • "B-Stock refers to items that were opened and returned, have a cosmetic blemish or imperfection (like a ding in the tolex of an amp or a scratch on the face of an effects pedal), or were used as demo units in a shop."

Is your definition different to that of Google?

          • @GossipGoat: Everyone knows what B stock is, old mate just loves being some passive aggressive it seems.

I got mine today and looks to be all good, btw. Stands are still another week away though, not sure why.

    • +1

Good luck with warranty if you have a fault. Since they won't admit that the products faulty and just say its nothings wrong with it if you try to return it. Going through a credit card charge back with them now and they keep harassing me by emailing trying to get me to slip up and say the product is not faulty so they can use it as evidence for the charge back dispute lmao. Here's an example of the email I got the other day "Hi, I wanted to check in with you and see if you also found that your headset is no longer faulty?".

If a credit card charge back doesn't work the only way they'll refund you is if you file a court claim with consumer affairs victoria. Scum bag company

      • Pretty shonky behaviour. Are you talking about damage from the veneer?
