  • I've been with AGL in WA for years with their 56% discount. Rates are 17.259c/unit for the first 12 units, then 15.565 thereafter and a supply charge of 24.992c/day. Anyone else in WA on a better plan? Can I get the $50 as an existing WA customer?

    • Kleenheat:

All prices are inclsuive of GST

Daily Supply Charge: 25.00 cents per day
Account Fee: 15.76 cents per day
Gas Usage Charge: 9.49 cents per Unit (incl 45% discount)

Not sure how much it is after the first 12 units in a day but I rarely go over that anyway.

  • Thanks OP, great deal for me!

They did a credit check when I switched plans as advised by their email

    • +5

How doing credit check warrants a negative vote?

As long as they disclosed it, you made an informed decision to go ahead.

    • -1

Have you only moved out of home recently? What utility company doesn't do a credit check? They disclosed they do credit checks before you applied to them. You not reading the PDS is on you.

      Information we collect from others
When you get a quote to apply to open an account with us: your credit information, including repayment history information.
When you set up an account with us or when your account is in default we collect credit-related information from credit reporting bodies about you

      • -2

Read before you reply, I said I switched plans. It was done over the chat. So a current customer not a new connection

        • Read before you reply

          I did

They did a credit check when I switched plans

From who? You realise if you "switch plans" you can switch from one provider to another, it doesn't necessarily mean you are switching from the same provider? You provided zero context. We aren't mind readers.

In any case your neg will be removed soon by the community.

Hopefully in 2024 you could post your very first deal.

          • @cute as duck: Switched plans not provider.

So according to the current deal, if you move from agl to agl, they will do a credit check. So beware if you are looking to apply for a loan

            • +1

@Rakibul: Utility provider credit checks (aka soft credit checks) don't impact loan applications.

        • Fight fight fight fight fight!

  • I abolished fas , couldn't be happier.

    • fas

      Yes

  • +1

Just consider the current plan you are on, if you are on an older plan with lower rates, you wont be able move back onto the plan if you move away, eg Ovo plan I am on is no longer being offered to new customers

  • Anyone in NSW having trouble searching for your address? Mine is not found under the promotion link.

    • Do you live in a place that has embedded supplier network?

      • No, I used to be with AGL before. I can still find my address on the normal page.

  • Thanks, great deal. Their rates seem to be the same as Lumo for me as well.

  • +2

Do we need to be with Westpac to avail this offer? Also where is CBA link? I have CBA account so might as well do that.

    • I signed up (not a Westpac customer). Let's see if they'll honour these offers.

  • I don’t understand, I am in WA and we only have synergy as electricity provider so can’t change electricity company

So if I only change GAS to AGL and stay for 1 month I also get the $150 gift card???

  • +4

    Eligibility
This plan is only available if you meet the following conditions.
    You're a Westpac customer
Offer available to Westpac credit or debit customers where AGL operates. Customers access offer via the Rewards & Offers hub from their Westpac online banking account (post login) or by calling 131 245 and quoting offer WESTPAC and remain on that plan for at least 30 days from sign up

    https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au/plan?id=AGL634195MRE6&post…

according to energy made easy, if you're not a westpac credit/debit customer, you aren't eligible?

    • +1

How do they know you're a Westpac customer though as long as you sign up via OP's Westpac link? It never asked me anything related to Westpac during registration.

    • nothing mentioned about being a wespac cust on the agl t&c's

  • great , i just changed my agl gas plan to a cheaper plan and get the $50

Also changed my elec from ovo again a cheaper rate as ovo jacked the rates

    • do you get the $50 immediately? or have to wait 30 days?

  • +1

If you have a Time of Use (TOU) meter, be aware that AGL peak hours are not aligned with the standard Ausgrid TOU peak hours so you end up having more peak period hours. It might not seem like much, but it does add up over time. This is one of the main reasons I switched from AGL to Origin.

    Further details at - https://wattever.com.au/ausgrid-time-of-use-customers-raw-de…

  • I wouldn’t touch AGL with a 10 foot pole.

  • Not worth it

    AGL v Origin
    General Usage c/kWh 25.245 v 28.842 Uncapped
    Feed-in tariff c/kWh excl GST .05 v .10
    Supply charge c/day 131.175 v 120.593
    Demand price c/KW/day 15.235 v 0
    Solar Supply Price v 8.526

Maybe if you don't have solar

    • +1

The idea is to switch then churn out as soon as you've got the giftcard

      • +1

        It's only $75 in qld.

I make 50c a day on my feed in tariff.

Nor risking losing the 10c feed in.

  • I switched yesterday with an upsized cashback at shopback to powershop ($108), plus $150 credit. The upsized cashback was gone at midnight

    • Switched with Econnex Deal yesterday for $150 Woolies gift cards + the $150 PowerShop credit. Both finished last night.

Thus Deal would give me a better $150 MasterCard but only $75 electricity credit (if not just a Westpac offer as some suggest).

      • I compared the rates, AGL 79 cents per day supply charge, powershop was much more per day, have to cancel

        • Something to consider… But doesn't matter to me, I don't stick around!

I just grab the (up to $300) incentive to switch & leave in just over 60d (or until electricity credit is used up).
Effectively have had no electricity bills in years! (All electric house. No solar or gas)

  • Just checked the rates, AGL is a better deal, but I just switched yesterday to Powershop

  • does this deal work existing customers switching over another address's bill?

  • Signed up, thanks OP. Let's see if they'll give the Mastercard and credits for transferring my elec and gas over from Origin (NSW).

  • Thanks OP, it was a time for change for Electrcity energy!

  • If you can get the "Set and Forget" plan with AGL I think this is the best rate.

  • +1

I think I am going to cancel powershop, and do this

  • Even though this deal might be ok, I would never, ever join AGL again.

  • I just got fisted by globird. Who else has a cheaper plan for gas and electricity in nsw

  • Thanks for posting OP.
I cry inside whenever I see great utility deals though, the joys of having to live in an embedded network :'(

  • AGL My account says $125 credit pending for both elec and gas now (each) so woohoo. I will leave if it's too expensive.

    • Where do you see the credits?

      • AGL will e-mail you a confirmation of sign up and it shows the credit there

  • AGL? Yeah nah, they suck.

  • +2

If i sign up just for gas, will i still be eligible for $150 prepaid mastercard ?

  • We are already with AGL with my wife's name. If i signed up again on my name will that be eligible?

    • if you signed up in your name then you would pay the connection fees
you can just swap plan and get $50
i swapped plan and it was a cheaper plan too lol

      • I don't think so any connection fee unless they have to do manually something.

        • you cant change name on the account without a new connection

          • @J5: I've changed name on electricity bill from 1 member of family to another. No cost, but needed to be confirmed with original person on bill.

But account number, plan & rates, etc remain the same. So no benefit doing it!

      • estimate for electricity is higher than the amount being charged by agl already

    • That would not be a switch of retailer. Name on bill would be changed. But billing would likely continue on same account & plan as before. So no benefit!

Could change retailer & back again, but that involves 10 day cooling off period each time!

  • Switching to this plan. The rates are 10% cheaper than my current Origin plan.

    • Switching electricity retailer short term (60+ d) for incentive.
Origin rang this morning offering 19% off current supply & usage charges.
Wouldn't match incentive to swap - so said no.

  • I have been looking at AGL plans. But I can't find how to change to a "time of use" plan on their web site. Is this only possible if you call them?

  • On a previous occassion when they had this promo, I signed up to get the "free" prepaid Mastercard, which never came, and they would not reply to any of my follow-up emails. Ringing didn't help either because their operators say that it is a different department / nothing to do with them. I moved away from AGL for this reason plus my objection to their leftie views on "renewables" and shutting down much cheaper & more reliable coal generators.

    • +1

objection to their leftie views on "renewables" and shutting down much cheaper & more reliable coal generators.

Trouble is most coal fired generators are old - approaching or beyond their expected life cycle.
(Vic & NSW generators are the oldest - some dating from the early 70's)

Similar to driving an old car…
That increases operating costs, down time for maintenance, & decreases reliability.
That's the main reason old coal fired generators are being shut down!

No one wants to pay for new coal fired generators. Banks won't provide the finance. It's not economic - seemingly without massive tax payer funding.
The previous Federal Govt spent tax payers money investigating the feasibility - to keep the Right happy. After all, that's how current coal fired generators were funded!

Cost per kWh of renewables is far lower than that of coal fired generators. Of course storage to allow availability at peak times is a costly issue. And high voltage power lines to distribute electricity from old power stations are usually in the wrong place to tap into renewables.

Just on basis of (non leftie) economic rationalism - it doesn't support your view!

      • +1

Hey, you and Chris Bowen see eye to eye on this lunacy.

        • If so, we're both well informed.

[Studied storage energy systems like pumped hydro decades ago in Electrical Engineering. And the economics of operating massive generators. Have hands on experience.
Back then, installed my own off-grid photoelectric panel & storage batteries.
And Cost Benefit Analysis in Economics & Science.]

You do like to see all this through a purely political perspective🤔

          It's pure market forces.
Who should fund keeping aged & falling coal fired generation going long past its economic life??
Tax payers? Energy consumers? Why would anyone want to do that?

With a mainly privatised energy industry (promoted by the Right), private operators say they shouldn't. Doesn't make economic sense to operate costly to maintain & run old coal fired generators.

We've moved on since the steam age!

But some just like to live in the past!
Bring back good old whale oil lamps I say 🐳😜

        • You gonna reply to the bloke? You said his views are lunacy and he left a detailed reply. Or do you just let right wing hacks tell you what to think so you can make the rich wealthier?

  • Thanks OP.

It showed the sign up credit offer but not the prepaid Mastercard offer at check out, does this sound right?

  • no thanks not available with the ev plan

    • don't worry about it. I used to be with AGL on their EV plan, but I shifted elsewhere after (a) never receiving the free Mastercard - which supposedly WAS included in the Mastercard Gift Card offer. (b) finding that I could get a better rate elsewhere without the alt provider having EV rates.

  • Can I sign up for two properties to get the benefit twice?
Or is this only applying to new customer?

  • I just spoke to someone on the phone - appears if swapping just gas you are only eligible for $100 prepaid MasterCard voucher and the $75 bill credit

    • How is that right? Where does it say that in t&c? I used support to sign up, clearly stated I wanted the $150 MC deal, that I was going gas only… no warning I would get less. That's just bait & switch…

      • I take it you're not in NSW, I think it varies by state.

  • In the email from Globird for Energy Market Pricing Review, which are price increases,

The "Reference Price" is $1827 per year, it is based on an average residentiqal customer in the Ausgrid zone, using 3911kWh per year. Your plan with the new rates, before applicable conditional discount(s), is the same as the "Reference Price". The lowest possible price is $1778.76, which is lower than the “Reference Price” if all applicable conditional discount(s) are met. Your actual bill will be based on your individual energy usage, and different to the "Reference Price".

Does this mean the reference price per kWh $0.48/kWh? And yoy shoulfi d provders which provide a rate lower than this?

Eg the incrwase rates for globird are:

    Charge Description (Power)
    New Rates
    Before Discount(s)
    New Rates
    After Max Available Conditional Discount(s)A
    Daily Charge ($/Day) $0.81400 $0.78958
    Anytime Usage
    - Step 1: 0.00-20.00 kWh/Day ($/kWh) $0.39270 $0.38092
    Anytime Usage
    - Balance ($/kWh) $0.43450 $0.42147

  • Would anyone happen to know how long this offer will be available for?

    • +1

      15 Jan says westpac rewards

  • Does the credit roll over to the next bill if not used up?

    • Would like to know as well

    • of course

      • +1

I am with AGL and can confirm the remaining credit will be carried over.

  • Looks pretty close to my current redenergy plan

kw/h rate is less by a couple cents but daily useage charge is higher by 6c so overall I "think" its much 'n' muchness

  • hi , will this work if I was with AGL like two or three months ago?

  • +1

Anyone got the credit for switching as an existing customer?

  • Thanks OP - signed up gas only in QLD - looks like the daily rate is slightly less than my current Alinta plan so I'll be slightly better off (only use a few dollars of gas a quarter) and should get the $150 card plus $75 credit

  • the quote it gives me is higher than my existing agl bill so not worth it

  • I'm already with AGL (using Gas). If I signup for electricity, will I get $50 prepaid MasterCard plus $125 sign up bonus?

  • +4

Signed up yesterday via link for Gas only. Got the plan details with the bonus $75 bill credit (I'm in VIC). Received an email from Wespac Rewards today confirming my $150 prepaid digital mastercard has been approved and I will be receiving a link to access it in the next few weeks. I'm not a Wespac customer btw. So hopefully my experience answers some of the questions raised with respect to the gift card eligibility and everyone who had signed up via the link should be receiving theirs shortly. Well done AGL for the positive experience!

    • Amazing - I did the same a few days ago (QLD). Heard nothing so far but fingers crossed

    • Got the same confirmation, gas only, Westpac customer. $125 credit in NSW.

    • Just curious, did your email about the gift card state it was for an electric offer? I only signed up for gas but mine said the following:

"You’re now an AGL energy customer. To redeem your Prepaid Digital Mastercard(s) to the value of $150, you must remain on the AGL Electricity plan for a minimum of 30 days*."

Not sure if they've sent a generic email out to all customers with a mistake, or whether something has got messed up on my order.

      • Yes, checking mine it did say this… a worry.

        • +2

Checked with chat. She said ignore the email wording, just need to stay on gas for 30 days :)

  • -1

anyone else received the digital prepaid card without being westpac customer by signing up on above link?

  • Thanks

  • I have AGL at my investment property, am I considered existing or new AGL customer at new address if changing from EA?

    New AGL Customers (only)
Offer only available to new AGL customers or Move-in customers

  • Called the number on the offer page, was told the offer is for Westpac employees only, not even Westpac customers. Based on other people's experience here, I signed up via the online form. Let's see if I get the deal…

    • Seems someone (customer service) has no idea. Iam westpack customer and i got confirmation letters for $150 after a week when i sign up.

      • Just got an email today from Westpac rewards (3 days after signing up with AGL) that I will get the $150 Mastercard via a link in the coming weeks. Doesn't say anything about being a Westpac customer let alone a Westpac staff member.
