    Safer than Mt Druitt?

    • +5

Yeah you only need Kvlar there.

    • +1

      Spanian's take

    • +1

Reminds me of a sticker I saw on the back of a Falcon Ute saying "I climbed Mt Druitt!".

RE: Tiger Prawns: Tempted but hoping they're still fresh.

      • Hillarious!

        • +3

Collect the whole set! Post Offices at Mt Colah and Mt Kuring-gai sell similar, including t-shirts.

    • Taking the Is' out of there would make it safer….

    • Discount Mt Druitt.

    • +2

Woollies and Coles have dropped the price of their thin sausages by quite a bit.
Coles 550g thin sausages down to $4.50 and Woolworths 600g thin sausages down to $5.00
This is not a special. I think its their new everyday prices.

Time for a BBQ, whether prawns or sausages or both

      • Coles 550g thin sausages down to $4.50.

560g down to everyday price of $4.35. The 1.8kg bulk pack works out even better value, 560g equivalent $3.73.

        • Noted and thank you
Maybe invite friends and family to that BBQ

  • +1

    that's specific to Mt Drui

      Damn I nuitt.

Got some Tiger prawns at Coles last week for $14 a kg. Woolworths had cooked banana prawns for $10 a kg. Must be a glut of prawns around at the moment. They're good to chuck in fried rice or Thai noodle dishes.

    • +3

      Just unsold Christmas stock.

    • +1

love prawns but god i hate peeling and de-veining them.

couldn't bring myself to spend extra to get processed one either, those are typically smaller or cooked beforehand.

      • +4

        it takes 5 seconds

        • de-veining and peeling in 5 seconds? i've seen chefs online taking far longer than that @.@

  • +1

These were $16 per kg yesterday at my local Woolies, so coming down further.

  • +8

must be all the old stock from Christmas

      • +5

All the prawns at Colesworth have been thawed for your convenience on the price tickets if you read them.

      • +12

All prawns sold in Australia have been frozen at one stage or another. It takes a minimum of 3 days for prawns to get from the boats to the stores - so imagine a 3 days old (at best) non frozen prawn….

        • +1

Yes, like many animals people take from the water, they are literally frozen to death.

        • +9

There’s nothing wrong with frozen prawns. We get prawns fresh off the boat in Port Douglas. You can sometimes see the trawlers from land. They all get frozen on the boat and are delicious when thawed in the fridge overnight.

        • That's factually incorrect. You can buy fresh, live, still swimming prawns.

          • @NoApostrophePlurals: Exactly. We get fresh unfrozen, cooked prawns from local trawlers @ SWR

          • +1

@NoApostrophePlurals: Sure I was referring to the commercial mainstream markets and supermarkets where majority of people go for their seafood. I should have made it more clear. The sales of live prawns to end consumers is basically a rounding error in reporting

        • I buy mine from the Trawlers at Shorncliffe in Brisbane. Caught over night in Moreton Bay, sold at the trawlers from 7am. Multiple different trawlers usually from Wednesday to Friday mornings. I think there’s a sole trader on Sat around the corner.

Fresh, not frozen, and tastiest I’ve had. Some of the biggest I’ve had too although multiple sizes available. A few varieties and usually crabs, squid etc too.

Check it out if in Brisbane.

  • Didn't know supermarkets were open today

    • They are

    • +2

They don't close for much - they'd open on Christmas Day if they could.

    • Completely forgot today was a public holiday. Got to the shops. Not many stores where open but theres a few. Including groceries. Was just coles 4 hours ago.

  • +1

Best fish and chips in Sydney in Mount Druitt. Next door to Coles

    • where the fish coming from

      • +7

        Coles.

        • +11

          You mean Pondi?

    Good for bait

  • Do you think I can use some of these recipes https://youtu.be/FzNp_s80uXY?si=KcThExWeaKeeUCMm ?

  • Got some for $7/kg last week. Was still frozen as the deli staff had just brought it out from the back room to refill the tray.

  • +1

gold coast should have heaps that are thawed for your convenience

    • Nope. Local Coles still "on sale" for $28 per kilo

      • +1

<whosh> blackout joke…. approaching 8 days without power, gotta get a laugh at something….. especially with 100-200mm of rain expected tonight.

  • Great price, but on the small side….. Got “fresh” tigers on Xmas eve for $10kg…in Hobart of all places. 4kg boxes on the fridge shelves, and also in the deli. Still have my 3kg of frozen Jumbos in the freezer, tasty as summer snacks

  • +2

    Get that up ya @TA4life

  • In theory, they're still good. They're basically frozen, just trying to clear stock from the freezers that didn't sell at Christmas. They're as frozen fresh as they were on the 24th December.

  • Feast on the sea bugs!

  • -2

why these seafoods are so expensive? healthy or ?

    • +4

      Supply and demand.

  • Ah… yesterday I bought some from coles $13/kg , still in the fridge.

  • Woolies in Kenmore have prawns for $10/kh. Just got some. They are fresh. Good for another 48hrs and can be frozen.

  • Excellent price. Pitty it's only in NSW. OP I think it's important to say the Tiger Prawns are thawed.

  • -3

    Non kosher food !!!

    • +2

A lot of things are non kosher lol

    • +1

      prawns are tasty

      • +2

        and so is bacon

  • I bought 2kg at $15 at Ashwood and thought that was outstanding as its like price from 6 years ago. This is even better
Edit. Won't be at many Woolworths as they were only meant to clear before Christmas break

  • -4

    Good for fertiliser only🤮.

If you know the taste of fresh prawns this colesworth sloppy seafood will never do.

    • Cost of living pressures would suggest maybe people will give these a go.

      • -3

Instead of taking out a maxxed out leverage home loan, leave some cash on the table for quality food.

        You are what you eat.

        • +2

What about all the renters? Instead of paying rent for a house just get a tent and leave some cash on the table for quality food?

        • -2

          Knob

    • +2

A bit arrogant. Not everyone can afford or has the time to source fresh off the boat seafood.

      • Yea Prawns were going for $59.99/kg at Sydney Fish Markets. So yea this is a deal.

  • @TA4life

  • -3

    most shops closed today

    • +1

Most were but coles and i don't doubt wollies would have been open. I know coles was as i was just there 4 hours ago.

      • Yes! Coles, Woolies and most Aldi were open New Year's Day. I did the family shopping at Woolies and it was so quiet, like nobody expected them to be open.

        • +1

Yeah the mall i was in was practically deserted. The coles i went to had hardly had anyone in it.

          • @xoom: Westfield I was in was officially closed. Woolworths, Coles and Aldi in it were open. Quietest was Dan Murphy's, open like the supermarkets on January 1 hangover day!

    • All Woolworths stores across the country open today except for Adelaide metro stores and like 4 random regional towns in SA/WA.

  • +1

    Freshly farmed from Pondi !

  • Get rolled on the way in or out of the store….. Bonus!
