    1 of the Amazon Reviews

"This battery is a little over a year old. Prior to this, I had another Romoss with the same capacity. The 40000mah expanded so much that I have to stop using it. This 60000mah which I rarely use was being charged today ran very hot and expanded as well. I will stay away from this brand for now. Difficult to contact someone from the company."

    • Didn't read the review nor did I purchase. Yikes, that is extremely concerning. If they own two faulty power banks from the same bran, that is incredibly concerning.

I have 2 different models of Romoss banks and one of them is little pregnant, still charging and working as normal. I might still continue to use and hope that it won't just combust.

ive got 2 including the zeus and have had 0 issues, will buy again for sure

I've had this bad boy for about 9 months or so….no issues for me. It behaves as it should. It charges the things and seems to have huge capacity. Tell you what tho, it's got some girth and heft!😄

  • Im looking for a powerbank of this capacity (to run a 4G hotspot for surveillance cameras) but the reviews are concerning … any suggestions for similar product?

      • oh cool ! can you recommend quality 18650 batteries ? so many on ali, not sure whats reliable. Thanks!

      • Can you explain this to me? As far as I can tell, you put batteries in this case and it will work like a powerbank?

        • Thats correct. But it won't fast charge your phones. Probably the BMS issue.

          • +1

@spiinl: It fast charges my Note 20 Ultra perfectly fine.

      • do you have to put batteries to all slots for it to work?

        • +1

No, the batteries in banks like that one are parallel rather than in series, so any number will work. This also means mixing 18650's from different sources or different ages isn't ideal

      • Awesome find! What is the output? Able to reach 65w? It’s a bit of a challenge to diagnose which battery is dead I imagine if needed too, but love the ability to swap them.

        • Multiply the volts by the amps to get the watts, looks like the cheaper SKU in the listing is 11W (standard usb 5v limit) and the most expensive SKU is 18 or 20 watts (minimum to be considered quick charge or PD)

Factories make absolute tons of 18 and 22w chips so you might have to dig deep in aliexpress to find DIY cases with higher wattage chips

          • @meeowth: It only says 5w then 10w wireless, bit confusing. Time to get Ali-fu going and start digging! 😜

            • @frugalftw: I personally couldn't find any (other than bare boards without cases) with 65w in their title that weren't immediately contradicted by images and descriptions that clearly said 22.5w max. (they are probably adding up their 3 22.5w ports to add up to 65w on a technicality.

Though logically 65w+ kits should exist, I didn't look beyond the first page of results.

              • @meeowth: Ffs can’t post any links without the referral spam thing. Ok just look for ‘18690 power bank case 65w’, seems to be plenty. Can’t figure out how legit they are tho, let me have some food so brain can reboot and get to work.

                • @frugalftw: The first image and the title says 65w but the 4th image showing the specs says 22.5w.

I searched some more and it seems there are plenty of DIY kits for 100w boards that are telling the truth about their output power, but the prices… you might as well get a non-diy one from amazon on sale

                  • @meeowth: I see what you mean. It’s really confusing. Looks like they pretty much cap at 22.5w. Maybe it’s more of a heat issue than anything else. After the past two hours of looking into these, I realise while the concept is awesome, it also comes down to the quality of the 18690. I then tried to find something for AA Eneloops :P

        • Actually would be very easy to work out which battery is dead with a simple multimeter. Haven't tested but max output isn't more than 20w.

          • @Zotech: Right, multimeter is the high tech item I don’t yet have. Can’t figure out the diff between the entry level for $10 and the fancy ones for $50 last time I was going to get one. Maybe just get some leds lol

            • @frugalftw: A $5 "18650 battery tester" would also do the job. All you would be doing is checking voltages of each battery to see which one is out.

This power bank is high capacity but low output by today's standards. Good application if you have something that draws little power but you want powered for a long time like the security camera use case mentioned above. Otherwise, as a portable powerbank you are lugging around a lot of weight for limited use cases (ie it can charge phones but not power laptops) and the overall capacity is above the airline limit which means approval is required.

The Kings fridge power pack from 4wdsupacenter deal I posted is moderately less capacity (153Wh vs 222Wh for this), but can deliver 120W via the 12V port or 60W via the USB C port, which for me is more practical for road trips and the like (I'm typing this on my macbook being powered from it right now).

It's still a good deal for the price but just be aware of its limitations.

  • I'm sure I grabbed 2 of these when on sale for $70
Re powering small devices I get 4 days solid powering a wyze v3 security camera then it needs a charge.
Still going strong after 2 years of use being charged weekly. Re the 40k ones I've had 2 swell badly and binned them

  • I have the 40,000mah version for over a year now and it's been excellent and heavily used. It charges fairly quickly (microusb input, but the USB-C input/output is faster) and lasts forever. I use it for my steamdeck and MacBook pro (can charge and play with this) and you can load up all the inputs and it just works, no heat or swelling experienced.

My only complaint is that the screen that tells you how much battery is left tends to be incorrect so I just ignore it

    • Yep, under 25% it can turn off at literally anytime

  • I have a 65w 40k mAh that I use with stamdeck and other portable game players. Romoss 40k seems only last the same as baseus 30k. The battery % indicator is always wrong and flickering. I say avoid Romo's and go for baseus

  • I have several Romoss products consisting of 2 of these 60000mah, 1 of 40000mah and 30000mah. The 60000mah and 30000mah are both a little over 12 months and both cases have expanded. They are not use extensibly and for whatever reason the batteries used are not good. I have to throw them away as the case expands and the charge does not last long anymore. Complete deteriorating. No response from Romoss at all. STAY AWAY.
