UPDATE: Found mention of free shipping for all AU orders. My order is coming via DHL from China. Updated deal title accordingly.

My Oakley Stride from https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/508012 finally gave out (the sole feels very hard and i'm getting sore heels) after 5 years of use. The foam is definitely compressed beyond point of no return.

Fun maths: This works out to be $6 / 1825 days of ownership = 0.33 cents per day! what a bargain eh.

So i went back to Oakley's website and saw they had a decent sale on up to 50% off items. I know they run sale pretty often but there are some bargains IMO atm in the shoes department.

It looked like all the shoes i looked at had free shipping.
Don't forget Cashrewards for 12% cashback too.

Some examples which i was eyeing, your tastes may vary… I ordered a pair of Fusion in Blue.

Chagos in White https://www.oakley.com/en-au/product/FOF100282?variant=19351… is 50% off. Nice looking pair of indoor and hard surface trainers. This looks like the most similar to the original Stride in design, except the colour. $74.98 Delivered.

EV Zero Dry in Grey https://www.oakley.com/en-au/product/FOF100136?variant=80561… is 50% off. Also nice looking, altho the colour may not be to everyone's liking. Blue and Jet Black are decent looking too but 40% off only. Good as a daily sneaker IMO. $62.48 Delivered - WOW!

EV Zero Edge in all colours (Black, Purple, Grey) https://www.oakley.com/en-au/product/FOF100141?variant=80561… looks like a good pair of runners for light short runs $59.98 Delivered - what a great price!

Fusion in Blue https://www.oakley.com/en-au/product/FOF100341?variant=19351… looks like a modern design as city sneakers. $79.98 Delivered

I am only interested in replacing my Stride so i only researched shoes - My experience from research is that they don't do a good job of marketing and segmenting their shoes on the website. They don't really categorise them by purpose. Eg. I have heard Chagos are good Tennis shoes, EV Zero Edge is a capable enough short distance runner. The Stride has certainly proved to me they make a decent pair of sneakers worthy of comparison to other sneaker shoe brands.

  • Anybody know if the prism replacement lenses are all polarised ?

    • +3

      Not sure.

Although I have bought replacement lenses from these people and have been happy:

      https://www.thesunglassfix.com/au/

      There are polarised options.

    • +1

No, Prizm is a colour enhancing tech whereas polarised is… just polarising.
Depending on the use case, polarised lenses can either be amazing or dangerous whereas prizm is always better

    • +3

No. But keep in mind their lenses have reached the cringe level for quality, they’re basically rubbish. Replacement lenses from sunglasses fix or even Ali express are actually better quality than Oakley

      • 100% right, I have a pair of Oakley sliver that I buy the Prizm polarised lense replacement when on sale but not much good sale lately compared to previously and they have been crappier quality for sure, scratches so much easier.

        • +1

          Sentences bruh

  • +10

Oakley has 50% off sales as often as the nearby rug store that has a closing down sale but never closes

    • +9

Their cost of manufacturing their glasses are extremely low. They won't go out of business because they are owned by Luxotica.

      • +1

Enormous margin in all there sunglasses on sale, let alone crazy regular price they claim

        • +3

        • Try pricing their prescription stuff. Over $600 a pair if you have borked eyes like mine. Their frames are so comfortable and well designed. Instead I have $200 junk from specsavers which looks completely awful. Sigh!

    • I agree with this comment… but also think it's good they do this. There are lots of other premium brands that never have sales and it really sucks.

  • Site seems to be struggling.

    • I found everytime I set a filter criteria it took a while to refresh. Luckily it didn't fall over on me.

  • Seems to be free shipping no matter what? Im looking at a pair of jandals for $30ish with free shipping to regional NSW.

Edit: went with the O Coil sandal for $35.97 shipped. Cheers OP

    • +1

Yeah I found no mention of free shipping in shipping and postage details, but it did look like pretty much everything was free shipping. I do remember reading somewhere on the site it was 50 bucks min. So to be safe I mentioned it in title.

      • I found mention of free shipping. Have updated title.

  • A lot of there gear is small sizes only including shoes etc…

Was interested in a pair of black Holbrook sunglasses and they aren't on sale. 😟

    • +3

Cheers, saved me the effort of searching. Was wanting Holbrooks too. Bah…

      • Always the case.

They know the design is popular so they discount weird trash.

I've been trying to get the metal Holbrooks for a "normal" price for years but gave up

    • i bought some last week on sale

      • From this site or somewhere else?

        • +1

From Oakley, they had 20% off plus 15% cashrewards cashback

          • +1

@nikoris: Cheers. Missed that out. My old pair is pretty much done so I'm in the market for a new pair. Hopefully something will show up soon.

            • +1

@AussieDaddy: @AussieDaddy if it’s just the lenses that are cooked, try just replacing them. It’s pretty easy, and from memory it was about $30 from Sunglass Fix.

            • +3

@AussieDaddy: Someone recommended me a site on reddit to buy third party lenses that are of good quality.
              www.sunglassfix.com.au

Maybe this will give life to your old holbrooks as well. I’ve ordered a new pair but I’m also going to order extra lenses from that site.

              • +3

@nikoris: I've used sunglass fix and have been very happy.

                • @thedragon: They earned a new customer here too. Will definitely use them in the future instead of buying new pairs, as long as the frames aren't damaged.

              • +1

@nikoris: Hey, thanks for recommending that site. I placed an order for the Holbrooks lenses on last Thursday, they shipped them on Friday and they were delivered yesterday, Wednesday. Saved me a lot of money in this way. Cheers.

                • +1

@AussieDaddy: Which lens type did you get? Im gonna wait for next discount and I'll get the photo chromatic ones.

                  • +1

@nikoris: Just the regular black ones. Do they have promos sometimes? I might keep an eye out on that and get another pair then.

  • Anyone know which Oakley sunglasses and colour Glenn Maxwell wears from the Melbourne Stars? They look really flashy wouldn’t mind getting myself a pair

  • Never any sutro’s smh oakley provides terrible sales

  • Yeah no sutro or litres. Shame

  • 50% off ..after 45% on…

    • i certainly wouldn't buy anything full retail. So a discount price is a discount price. I personally think if it is thought of as a premium-ish brand (for it's sunglasses) a bit of that rubs off on all the other goods. And if it's shoes are in the price range cheaper than a pair of Skechers - with better design, materials, brand - then that's a win.

  • +2

To call these sunglasses is a bit misleading ,
    more like plastic shades .
Bought Maui Jim’s 15 years ago when they’d have half price sales .
Glass lenses , free repairs on frames .
And just comfortable, if slightly heavier .
    Never looked back .

    • +1

Yeah I bought some Ray-Bans about 10 years back that have glass lenses. Much better scratch resistance than all my Oakley sunglasses.

    • +1

How do you claim free repair on frames?

      • +1

Just give them to any retailer of Maui Jim’s and they send them away for repairs ,
These days it’s mostly optometrists where I’ve seen them retailed .
Last set I tried to have a pair of nose pads replaced before chrisy they sent me a whole new different model frame instead , so I just got them to put new lenses ($140) in the new frames and gave them to my dad for Christmas.
Also they did end up fixing up my pair a bit after all that aswell .
Just return them to any retailer , I think a lifetime guarantee on frames is part of their sales pitch . only Maui don't cover lenses if you drop them on concrete and scratch the lens .
Hope that explanation made it clearer .
I mean at full price they are expensive so I guess this is how it makes it worth it for them .
If you can find good glass lens glasses sunnies like Maui’s , Serengeti’s , Ray Bans ect they have to be full framed to have the glass lens , I find them great for driving and good protection around the ocean , although I do have cancer council sunnies for working around the yard or on small boats ect .

        • +1

If the repair process if as you describe its pretty great! I would have thought the retailer would try and deflect you off as I can't imagine them making much $ off a warranty repair job.

Thanks for the info I might look for a pair instead of relying on cheap 30 dollar petrol station sunnies every year…scratched, lost, crushed, arm hinge broken

          • @hippo2s: I mean I don’t know their exact policy these days .
But this has been my experience .
Would be best to ask about warranty ect before you buy .
But it seems like they’re pretty keen to keep you in/wearing their brand .
Remember though , if you leave them on the roof of your car then you’ll be SOL for a free replacement .
            Then it gets expensive.
I have a hard case in between the drivers & passenger seat where a pair live .

        • +1

Would they not ask for proof of purchase?

          • @hippo2s: No . It’s like a comprehensive warranty , that maybe not everyone takes advantage of.
They are usually locked in a display case like jewellery these days , but if you wanted to run off with a pair then come back for repair or maintenance in ten years time I suppose you could.
They were great value when the sunglass hut used to do 50% off for Father’s Day sale.
Can’t remember what full price was back then , on sale they were around $150 a pair .
If you search Maui Jim’s , Serengeti , Ray-Ban Sales on Orbargain or other glass lens Sunglasses , you will see the old sales .
But there’s plenty of newer Sunglass brands now you can Google that are in that $350-500-600 and up range.
In fact the Maui’s are at the lower end these days of the price range.
            Still top quality though .
People buy status brands now so it would be like comparing a Rolex to a Richard Mille watch .
I mean they both tell time with a Great movement right .

            • @beach bum: Doing some research shows Maui Jim's have 2 years warranty for the frame, same as what Oakley (and i assume most brands) offer. From your original message i read that as a lifetime warranty, maybe even if it was years ago, it is no longer obtainable.

And it looks like most pairs includes lens made with some trademarked name instead of calling it a plastic lens. With exception of 'SuperthinGlass' - which looks like starting from $356 AUD inc GST. Kinda too expensive for my taste.

              • +1

                @hippo2s: Well that’s interesting ,
Maui’s do do open frame plastic lens shades these days. ,
but that’s why I said full framed for the glass lenses .
and price wise that’s why you buy them only on sale .

they still do free maintenance and repairs for me and I bought them over ten or maybe close to fifteen years ago at a completely different shop .
                Lucky me I guess
Maybe ask at a retailer what they actually do .
Some info on the net is old and out of date .

Was looking at frames at an optometrists recently and I think it was Nike frames that had a lifetime warranty , if you sat or stepped on them . Full replacement for life .
But I went with something that suited my big nogin a bit better , but superflex , but with only 2 year repair/replacement warranty.

                Anyway
That’s the extent of my knowledge
                I’ll leave it with ya

Thanks for sharing this, got a decent deal on snow goggles and replacement lenses!

    • +1

Which goggle and prizm lens did you get?

      • +1

Flight paths with the rose lens and an extra jade lens. Have used both lenses before and they pretty much cover vast majority of weather conditions together.

  • 12% CashReward or 10% back from Shopback..

  • Coinflip model. Not suitable for driving stated ?

    • I noticed that too, it's something to do with the lens colour filtering and Australia standards. See https://www.reddit.com/r/Oakley/comments/f873qq/some_models_….

I bought the brown "Cables" model anyway.

      • I have never heard of coppers pulling people over because the sunglasses were not suitable for driving. But I guess if it alters the colour of traffic lights then you do have to wear it at your own risk.

  • People who wear Oakley have quite the rep 🤣

    • What kind of rep?

  • Anyone else get incorrect cashback with Cashrewards? Tracking confirmation gave me less than half of the 12% confirmed cashback on the flight deck goggles (it comes up as USD on the CR email).

    • Same in USD for me, but I did get roughly 12%.

    • Cashback at cashrewards is now only 5.6%, but 10% now at Shopback.

    • How long did it take for Cashrewards to advise of tracking?

      • Ordered 2:43pm, Tracked email 3:36pm. So under an hour. But i thought Cashrewards tracking email varies wildly in timing.

  • +1

ordered a pair 50% off with prism 'road' lenses. looking forward to using these while driving.

avoided polarised - tried these years ago got headaches and could see annoying chequered patterns of tinted windows from the inside of the car.

  • Any idea when the sale on snow goggles and helmets will end?

  • Wow, was just about to buy a pair of Flight Deck snow goggles at 50% off…

Had them in the cart for 2 hours or so, now they are only 30% off… wtf man
