1070

In official words:

"Dust, water and scratch resistant, the Motorola DEFY+ is life proof. It lets you enjoy all a smartphone has to offer while helping to protect you from some of life's little challenges, like a spilt drink or dropping your phone in the sand"

Was looking for some Prepaid bargains (in time for Christmas) and came across this. Seems like a good rugged smartphone; May have to get it unlocked to use with other networks!

Comes with a Telstra Sim + $10 credit

        • No worries. Yeah they take it out of the $30. But the pre paid was activated under encore so I still have cap credit. The unlock code that I got was 16 digits

  • Interesting. I purchased an unlock code from cellunlocker.net and they gave me a code that was 16 digits long, but split into 2 lots of eight digits. They said it would be either 1 or the other. Ofcourse i tried both 8 digit codes seperately and neither one worked.

Now I am waiting for a refund, but I might have to try all 16 digits and see whether that works.

    • I got 16 digits codes which split into 2 lots of eight digits from gsmliberty.net. Of course it does not work. No matter 16 digits or 8 digits. I have been told that the code is the outcome from their search in their database 1. Actually, in this database, their is no code for DEFY+. Then, a random code has been generated. They offered me a fully refund or a further search in their database 2 which includes codes for the latest models. But it costs another $5 more and takes 1-3days. I choosed the refund and got refund in 10 hours.

    • The 2 x 8 digit codes don't work. www.sydneyunlocking.com.au confirmed they old codes wouldn't work (before I hard locked my phone) and were able to provide me with a correct code first time.

I can highly recommend these guys!!

      Cheers,
      Mark

  • WTF? I ordered the Defy+ online and after entering CC details and clicking order, it tells me that I've ordered a $30 nanoSIM. Has this happened with anybody else? How can an e-commerce site in this day and age get orders mixed up?

I've called the support number on the invoice but they can't do anything for a few hours until the record shows up in the system. I'll have to try again later.

    • Followup: After spending some time on their chat page, Telstra told me they can't cancel the order, but when it arrives I should tell the courier to return it and they will do a chargeback.

Now I have to decide whether to risk their e-commerce site again. Will I get another random product this time? :(

  • All I have to say is hats off to telstra, I ordered this yesterday and it got here today, not even 24 hours to receive it.

Bought two …. Delivered in a day. Got them unlocked successfully for $18 each via http://www.sydneyunlocking.com.au

  • Got a fraud protection alert trying to use my AMEX card to order one of these just now.

How long does Telstra take to get the unlock code? I was told 3-5 days.

  • got mine unlocked here http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/UNLOCK-CODE-MOTOROLA-MB525-MB526-… someone already mentioned earlier. it took about 36 hours.

    • So how did you get the code? Isn't it mean to come in the snail mail?

      • No. Their postage is for reducing the eBay final sale fee. They sent me the code via PM.

        • This is what turned me off: I will send this item by postal mail. Sending this item by email or by any other digital delivery method is not allowed and violates eBay policy.

  • great phone, its got the blue tick for great country reception, and ive demonstrated the waterproofness in countless pints of beer

  • i tried to order another one today but got an order cancelled email moments later. i was wondering anyone got luck getting more than one ?

    • It doesn't seem to be there now, but I seem to recall there WAS a limit of 1 or 2 per person last week. Did they say why they had cancelled it?

      • Tried twice and got both my orders cancelled. I was told they couldn't verify my details.

  • I received it fairly quick postage, my old Defy which has a worn out water cover (which was an unlocked model) so I told the Telstra unlocking team that it was a replacement and I'm not changing carriers, and they offered to unlock it for free. I have lots of prepaid credits across two accounts I could have used up, but it was still a very nice sentiment. Very happy, A+ to Telstra.

  • anyone had trouble placing multiple orders? it rejected me saying authentication failed online. Had to visit the store to provide ID and they are going to reprocess the order…..
love the phone….and now time to look for some unlocking sites.

Thanks to dealhunter999 for posting and thanks Ozbargain as well. Got couple of these phones to gift the family.

Edit>….. Anyone who got thier order cancelled… Can call telstra online 1300 131 113 and ask them for quick refund or let them know if you still want the phone and they will ask you to go to store to provide ID. You have to ask the store person to call telstra online with your order no.

    I just been through this.

  • Cheers op, just bought one. time to upgrade my nokia with something that cant handle being my phone

Worth the effort rooting and flashing it as it runs sooo much better than stock. The tute is awesome!

    • Euroskank rom runs great . It's quite crappy stock .

  • I got one and rooted it and put Cyanogen 9 on it (Android 4 - ICS), which makes it usable (it's horrible as you get it from Telstra), but it really hates sticking on 3G (when it can find it), so data is really unusable on the mobile network.

  • Mine just arrived in the mail. Two days to get delivered, even the delivery guy was impressed. I did not realise it was an MB526, was expecting a 525, so that is a bonus. Seems like a handy unit, screen is within a poofteenth in both directions of my wife's iP4S but the overall handset is a little smaller and lighter. Will get busy on the process to install ICS.
One thing though; I was expecting to get a 2GB MicroSD in the package. No big deal, I am sure that I have one in the house somewhere. Anyone know anything or I did get this wrong?

    • I had one in it under the battery - already installed.

      • Er, there it is. Don't I feel like the idiot? Thanks. I am just used to getting them uninstalled.
It's in there pretty tight, going to be fun getting that out and a 32gb in.

        • Lift the red tab and it slides out easy.

  • i ordered 2 weeks ago. havent received it yet :(

    • Did you receive cancellation email?. I did and have to visit Telstra shop to verify my ID.

      • no email whatsoever

  • Successfully unlocked for 14.95 from Sydneyunlocking.com.au

    • Hey infekted. How long after payment did Sydneyunlocking send you the unlock code?

      • 2 days

I have successfully unlocked for $10 from unlockmyfone.net using payal

  • Thanks OP - Ordered yesterday and received the phone today.

  • So is this phone any good for TPG/Optus?

    • Hubby has had this phone for several months and was using it on Woolies Mobile. Phone itself worked fine but data download was non existant in the house, so once our woolies recharges ran out he went back to Telstra. If you read the thread in the Mobile forum most people seem to be having success after a bit of tweaking.

    • Short answer: Yes. Longer answer: here.

  • A second vote for unlockmyfone.net - initially I had a bit of a hiccup, but they were only too happy to sort out. As I'm on Telstra anyway, I didn't need it unlocked, but for $10, it now is.

  • Placed order on 26th October, had it cancelled then reinstated 2 days later after showing additional ID. Still waiting for a confirmation. Useless in this day and age a simple order can take so long.

  • @ unity1 Same thing happen to me. showed ID to store and they said it would be reinstated. waited 1 week then got refund. Spoke to telstra online they said it was mistake. they asked me to reorder, ofcourse its cancelled again last week but i had manager speaking with me to assure that i would get it and they would reinstate, after waiting for another week i got refund again yesterday and they said they couldn't reinstate. Manager said they would forward this to complains department because i wasn't able to get phone after even placing 5 orders.

In short, I am not sure whether they can reinstate the order, Because i had telstra online manager trying for me to reinstate last order but couldn't do it. Very frustrated.

Has anybody got their order delivered after reinstated ?

    • Thanks so much for providing this update. This is a hell of a lot of unnecessary stuffing around by Telstra for simply ordering a mobile phone. Pay the money, provide the ID, how hard can that be for Telstra to process. If their operating managers can't overide their own systems then Telstra have serious issues. I have never encountered suck nonsense before. Mohsin, I will keep you updated how my order goes.

  • your welcome unity1.

    • Some good news. Received an email saying my money will be refunded within 48 hours. Then received an email confirmation for the other order. So, yes orders can be reinstated. Now, just to get the cancelled order reinstated again.

Edit: Now have received another email saying "Thanks for ordering a Freedom Connect plan online at the Telstra Shop" This does not sound good. Sounds like they have put my prepaid phone onto a postpaid plan.

  • ^ I hope you get it soon….. but I have given up.

    • I ordered mine on 26th and arrived today in VIC.

  • I was just about to order one and it's gone! :(

  • Oh bugger. Would have got one otherwise.

  • For anyone who got one of these handsets, the bargains keep on coming.
Just picked up a pack of 3 screen protectors at OW. They are marked for an MB525 (Defy) but they fit a Defy Plus. Some other stores may have stock.
The brand is Mercury AV and I have seen some of their screen protectors (for Samsungs and iPhones) selling for as much as $30 in some places. OW has the Defy ones for $1, but it rang up as $0.01. That is 0.33 cents an item, surely a record for OzBargain!
