Child Reading Light/Torch (Auto off)

Currently my 3yr old likes to read after we put him into bed so he has a standard torch that he uses. Problem is he leaves it on all night and I am replacing batteries too often. I would like to find a torch that has a auto off timer built in. I have tried to get him to turn it off before he sleeps but to no avail.

I was thinking Ozb might know of some AliE torch with said functionality. It has to have the timer automatically put on each time as there is 0% chance I can get him to do it. I was thinking of finally getting one with an 18650 but that is likely gonna be overkill for a reading light for him.

Before you ask, I don't like putting the eneloops in the kid's things that often go missing.

edit. I think his preference would be for the classic tube shape handheld torch if possible

Bedside lamp with a smart bulb?

    • I think his preference would be for a similarly shaped torch, a 'tube' so to say. I should update OP

Get a Kindle, no torch required

        • Have found kids books dont always translate to kindle that great. Especially books for younger kids.

    gradual dimming feature
three distinct color temperatures – warm 2700K, versatile 4000K, or crisp 6000K.
    USB-A charging port

What about a smart bulb and bedside lamp? Smart so you can dim it to whatever is comfortable, and program it to turn off by a certain time with app on your phone. Can even program it to turn on when it's time to wake up.

    • Given he has a car bed that gets like 20cm above the ground at it's highest point bedside lamp might not work. Plus he really loves to hold the torch and point it around the room and stuff.

  • What kind of books is he reading?

    • There are hundreds, anything from kids fairytales, dinosaur/shark/jungle pop up fact books, Disney.. everything and anything.

      • Like reading words or pictures?

        • Pictures. Can't actually read yet

I am replacing batteries too often

I saw in BigW or Kmart in the Christmas stuff a clip light for reading with in built rechargeable battery… Although I can't seem to find it in their website now

It's not the shape that your child prefers, but my kid has this light from IKEA and loves it, not super bright and auto-off after about 15 minutes.

Sorry, I've never seen an auto-off torch.
But you can get very cheap usb-rechargable torches on aliexpress that might solve the problem?

$2 to $3 each, and get a few toys to make up $15 spend for free 14-day shipping on the "choice" range.

Just some unsolicited advice. Many kids have done it for years and turned out fine but reading books in the dark with just a torch for lighting isn’t good for his eyes, long term.
