    • hi, i didnt see one get taken down due to duplicate - is there a way i can check this?

    • +1

I've tried both and I would 100% buy undercover roasters over airjo. If you live close to them, then even better.

  • +5

1kg is $60, so $30 + $10 = $40 delivered. This is more expensive than competing roasters with a more established track record and customer endorsement on ozbargain. Hard to buy this when there are cheaper and more compelling options.

I'm not voting either way , HOWEVER you're infering that the coffee is essentially a fungible product i.e coffee at any supplier is the same, so price is the only real differentiator.

This is clearly untrue as the beans used, skill of the roaster, freshness of the product, quality of the packaging etc are all factors.

If one just wanted the 'cheapest' we'd all be buying from Aldi etc - and I've no idea what this vendor is like FWIW I blend and roast my own beans from green - so no skin in the game). But I think it's a tad unfair to say other places have for cheaper hence that alone in and of itself says it's a 'no deal'. :-)

Again no negs or votes from me - just hopefully constructive thoughts. :-)

      • thank you!

        I tend to agree.

I bought a kg of Airjo's Pegasus Blend (their light roast) for filter and found it far, far darker than anything I ever buy from excellent roasters (Market Lane, Proud Mary, Twin Peaks, Mecca, etc.)

I can stomach paying >$25/250g from any of the above because it doesn't taste awful. But of course I'd rather pay under $50/kg if any of these deals was actually good and not just cheap.

Hey Daniel, I see your perspective but it's not what I meant.

For an ozbargainer who has seen lots of coffee bean deals - you rely on at least two factors to inform whether you are going to buy a coffee bean deal; 1) the quality of beans which is based on your own experience and/or that of others who have tried the beans, and 2) relative price - is it less/equal to/more than the average bean deal price delivered (atm about $30/kg). You might also consider roast and delivery speed, customer service etc…

Regarding these beans and this roaster, there isn't much in the way of 1) - we have historically seen comments being posted from supporting customers in other deals who like the beans (or saying otherwise). So in lieu of 1), there really is only 2) price. Given these beans are $10 above the average "deal" price, there is a fair amount of risk involved, particularly with a KG of beans. Especially when people have a preference for a particular brand (I looooove sensory Lab beans above all).

Given all that, I'm not saying these beans are crap or overpriced, nor am I saying all beans are the same. I'm simply saying these beans are more expensive than the relative deal price of other beans that have been community reviewed as "good beans".

          Hi @anthman

It's good you clarified what you meant - but respectfully, I stand by my response to your original post which specifically cites there being 'cheaper' options.

So I'm glad you clarified what you actually think, but what you stated, which is all I or anyone else can go by, is pretty clear - hence my response, which I think is nothing less than fair both to you and the vendor. :-)

And again no votes either way from me on this or anyone's responses in this. :-)

When you putting a deal on OzB for us to buy your home roasted beans?

        • +2

Very easy to do yourself - you can do cowboy style with a frying pan and the spotty result is actually quite good as you get a variety of roast colours.

I've actually got a roaster I built myself as well - that and roasting yourself does definitely make things taste a tad better. ;-)

become a member over at Coffee Snobs forum, the name is tongue in cheek and they're a really nice crowd on all things coffee related. :-)

          • @Daniel Plainview: Too coincidental that UCR sell a Melbourne coffee snob tshirt 😂
Yeh man i will give the forum a look.

    • If you/fam or you and a mate drink enough coffee that your order qualifies for free shipping the above equation is irrelevant though, tips the scales to favour this deal

Even 2 bags = this deal slightly ahead.
And that’s not even factoring in flavour/taste preference (mentioned in other posts, but I cant comment on arjo beans - haven’t needed to try them)

  • Why undercover? So the disgruntled customers can't find you?

    • +3

      Roasting beans outside isn’t recommended

  • +6

Not quite sure what's going on in these comments, UCR was one of the regular posters and coffee suppliers throughout the pandemic.. I know I purchased off them several times and always a great experience and excellent quality.

    • appreciate your support! :)

  • +2

Those comments about Airjo being a better deal…

Sure, it's a better price, but if you only care about the money then you might as well get the Aldi beans. For the record, I think Airjo beans aren't very good and the Aldi ones for $15 a kilo is HEAPS better.

Y'all commenting this nonsense on this post is just -_- shake my head. $60 is a typical price for premium speciality coffee - see Inglewood, Seven Seeds, Five Senses, Padre.

50% off is great opportunity to this brand.

    • thank you for your support!!

    • I can stand by your comment on Airjo but the aldi beans are just bad. My partner bought some due to comments like yours and we threw the bag out lol

For reference I like tasting the fruit (its called a coffee cherry afterall), so old over roasted beans are not my preference.

I know this comment is snobby but snobs use ozbargain to and hopefully this prevents someone making a similar mistake lol

      • Did you get the medium roast one? The other roasts are bad

  • +1

Great coffee beans - bought from them multiple times and visited their place at Abbotsford. Certain coffee roasters advertising on the ozbargain, advertise inflated retail price then offering discounts almost every month. Unlike them, UCR price is more realistic for a bean quality they sell. As Daniel Plainview mentioned above, you can't expect all coffee beans to be very cheap as they greatly vary in quality. As one of the Barossa winemakers said: "you can make a bad wine from a good grapes but you can't make a good wine from bad grapes". Same goes to the coffee beans.

    • thank you! appreciate your support :)

  • BLK signature blend or Colombia Hacienda La Palmera Bourbon Natural for espresso milk-based coffee?

Don’t be afraid of DRK, good strong flav

      • oh yes good call!! if you like something on the stronger side - DRK is a great option

  • Can it be combined with RECEIVE 15% OFF YOUR FIRST ORDER

  • I dont beleive so, one code tends to override the other when an automatic discount is active

    @ Undercover Roasters
Can I purchase now for delayed delivery?

  • 20% Cocoa or 40% Cocoa Drinking Chocolate, no information on the difference.

    • 40% has a higher cocoa % in the formula, other than that they are the same ingredients!

      • That's already implied. I was hoping to know is 40% better because of high amount of cocoa or does 20% have a lighter taste?

Are Naked Syrups included in the discount?

  • Hey everyone.

A quick messge for those of you who have placed orders over the weekend.

You may have already received an email from me, but incase that was missed (or went to your junk) I thought it would be worth posting here.

Please email me at [email protected] if you would like to get in touch regarding your order.

    The email reads as follows:

Unfortunately, due to heavy rainfall in the Bendigo area overnight, our warehouse has been flooded.

We are working hard to get operations back up and running as fast as we can. But to ensure that we adhere to all health and safety measures, there will be a slight delay in dispatching orders placed during the Brew Year Sale over the weekend.

We know this is inconvenient, and we apologise for the delay.
Please be patient with us, and know that we are doing everything possible to get your orders shipped and with you as quickly as we can.

At this point, we anticipate having orders dispatched tomorrow afternoon. Please keep an eye on your emails; you will receive tracking information once your order has left our warehouse.
We will keep you informed if anything changes.

If you have any questions or would like to chat about your order, please reply to this email, and a team member will be in touch.
