      wtf

Their share prices suggest theyre making big profit on most things, id imagine.

Still means its half the price of what they usually ask for it though.

      • +9

Their margins on most things are piss poor. Coles and WW rely on high volume not high margin. Look at supermarket profits relative to sales and capital…then look at proper businesses and you will discover what profit really looks like.

    • +2

The amount of advertising they do on TV, it is a given they make a lot of profit.

Taiwan is a developed country with high wages and expensive goods , services. So it may not be much higher a margin.

      • +2

The cost of an ice cream like this in a box of 4/5 in a supermarket in Taiwan was about 80 NTD (approx $4.25) this time last year so, I'd agree similar margin after basic deductions, shipping, import tax higher business operating cost here.

From my perspective, Taiwan is basically its own country.
Different Governments, different legislature, no influence on policies by Beijing

I've been to Taipei and its a beautiful city. Its pre communist China pretty much, really old Chinese traditions ect
Quality of items made in Taiwan are top notch. Your little chip that powers cars, planes, computers, transport ect all are manufactured in Taiwan by TSMC (or in South Korea, Samsung)

So… was this typed on your iPhone?

  • Can get Maxibons for $4.75

    • +1

Don't get to put balls in your mouth with a maxibon.

      • +1

Who need balls, when you've got the whole maxibon to shove in.

    • +1

      Maxiballs

Bubble tea is a garbage drink. Ridiculous amounts of sugar in a drink that doesn’t need it. Tea is perfectly palatable by itself, nobody needed Liberia’s deficit worth of sugar and balls in it to make it better.
We sidestepped Starbucks similar bullcrap thanks to Greek and Italian immigrants bringing their coffee culture to Melbourne, fortunately.

I think it tastes quite nice.

Your writing style comes off as projecting a personal opinion to a crowd, my dude.

      • +1

        Mahh doood

        • Ive never been one for 'sir' or 'ma'am'.

      • Your writing style comes off as projecting a personal opinion to a crowd

        On a forum? Imagine!

(Also, it was a perfectly good take, and made sense, unlike your comment…)

        • I'll happily rephrase it for you.

What part are you struggling to make sense of?

Was it "to a crowd"? If so, fair, I meant 'upon a crowd'. Otherwise, let me know.

@MasterScythe: I think it’s the fact that you emphasised that I was giving my personal opinion on a forum. Imagine that. Would it be better if I gave someone else’s opinion? Also, this is going to blow your mind but it seems like you are also projecting a personal opinion too, and that’s fine. It’s also fine that we disagree.

            • @kiriakoz: The original post I replied to contained a definitive statement.
I honestly thought I was careful to use an "I think" statement.

Sorry if it sounds like I was projecting my opinion as a definitive; what part?
              I'll correct it ASAP.

              • @MasterScythe: My point is that it’s perfectly fine to give your opinion in a forum, it’s literally the place to do it.

Also, the fact that you wrote “I think” proves it’s a personal opinion, not disproves.

                • @kiriakoz: Nobody objected to any opinions though, nor argued it was a bad place to share them.

I only highlighted a writing style, which seemed to imply a definitive statement rather than opinion.

I even clarified that further for mickeyjuiceman, as he said he was having a hard time making sense of the discussion.

Also, the fact that you wrote “I think” proves it’s a personal opinion

I appreciate you aknowledging that, genuinely.

I expected you to double down on the "projecting" accusation earlier. Not everyone here is capable of noticing their error, and just enjoying a fun grammar debate like this. Kudos :)

You could say the same with just about everything. Nothing wrong with having a treat from time to time.

      what you got against Liberia?

    • .. and you think Boost is better?

      laugh in my bubbletea

      • I don't think they know how much sugar is in stuff to be honest. They drink Ginger beer…

        • I understand how to read nutritional labels and I do consume sugar. I just don’t think things that haven’t traditionally had sugar just suddenly need it. It’s not an improvement. I just ate a donut not long ago, it’s a dessert, it’s supposed to have sugar in it. Sugary tea with balls is not an improvement on original tea in any way.

          • @kiriakoz: I think you miss the point if you think bubbletea is a tea, but I like you because you are a conservative like me. We need to band together brother

      • I don’t remember mentioning boost. I think I’ve had it twice in my life and once was for free.

    • You can request no sugar but the boba is basically marinated in sugar yeah.
We could have sidestepped bubble tea since we have a British tea tradition but I suppose the popularity comes from migrants and has now caught on with the Aus natives, just like coffee… One day in the future we will be looking for single origin bubble tea. Also a Starbucks just opened near me the other month so not entirely sidestepped.

      • Yeah, not entirely sidestepped but when I see how many of those places are in Europe, UK and America for example (even India), we’ve done okay overall.

I will wait for salty caramel deal at half price.

    • Do you first world will survive without third world? First world is keeping their backyard clean and blaming third world for everything.

"Taiwan is a developed country. It is ranked highly in terms of civil liberties, healthcare, and human development"

      Back to school for you.

    • +1

Right on, we should stop importing third world iPhones too. I’m sure Dick Smith can make a better quality AussiePhone (TM pending).

      • Kogan has taken over the mantle

      • Food is a completely different beast. Support local.

        • Id actually be keen to do so;
Whos a good boba supplier, locally?

Some people mix up Taiwan and Thailand.
Once in the first class of a course the teacher asked a Taiwanese guy where he was from and then commented oh so you speak Thai!
