Best Way to Roam AU Number in The US? Am on Boost. Will Get US Number Too

Hey
Looking for some advice. I am on12 month boost, expires april. Usual USA trips I do the 14 days for $ 40 roaming. But this time I am going for 8 weeks and then later will go for longer,. depending on work.

I need to keep my AU number and get OTA SMS. Possibly calls, but not essential.

Currently have a Pixel 6 Pro that can also do eSIM.

1) So I'll get a US number (Physical or eSim depending on what I need to do for Oz)

2) I also need to keep my +61 - what is the best way to AT LEAST Receive SMS, and possibly see missed calls *(I can leave a voicemail to say WhatsApp or text me b4 I leave oz).,

I have been using boost for years and have 4 of our 5 phones on it… I won't be renewing boost in April I think. QoS and service has been horrible last 9 months or so and getting qworse. As if they are puirposefully depricat ing the service. So I am ok to let go of boo]st a few months early. I go to the US Jan 30th, so need to make a plan by then. Boost 12 month sim expires April 2024.

You might not need to do anything, if voWIFI is working on Boost

    • ha ha. my\ internet was so bad at hoime I turned off wifi calling. now boost is so dodgy, I forgot I can turn it back on.

Didn't know that it would work and not count to your international minutes.

    • Looks like voWIFI should work overseas on Boost
      Under the "Use Overseas" heading

      See article on Whirlpool:
      https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/wifi_calling

  • Amaysim payg, $10 for 12 months if you just need to receive SMS, available as esim.
If you want more than receiving SMS, they also have a roaming pack for $25 that lasts 365 days, so probably ideal for your longer trip as backup for the local sim.

I was overseas recently with my woolies mobile esim. I switched my primary esim back to the woolies sim and I received messages. I switched on wifi calling to make calls with the aussie number.

  • I'm currently here for 3 months and got the Mint Mobile introductory deal for $15pm $45 total up front with an esim. I then put my Coles Sim in a 2nd phone to still receive SMS.

  • Get a data on esim and use wifi over voice

  • awesome'
so what I am reading is
most cheap sims will still deliver SMS (2FA). Question if it has to be primary SIM.

The $25 p.a. roaming SIM from amaysim sounds very intrigueing. https://www.amaysim.com.au/international/roaming — and if I have US data the $20 pack gives me calls for emergency inbound.

I need a US number so I can be called in the US… And that probably may need to be primary

Taking the advicei nto account< i think i will
    * Keep boost till end of March, and use the 14 days data @$40 whilest I sort out a local US SIM. Let it lapse and just get SMS. If I need calls, I can switch to Amaysim roaming"

    • When I come back to Oz in April, and leave again for US, I can setup Amayusim then as backujp.

    Sounds v.good.
