    it's for charity….yet you will take a free ticket….blasphemy!

    • +2

I know right, it seems redundant that the ticket for an event to raise money is free…I assume they'll be strongly encouraging donations at the event.

She's a former world number 1 and has won four major titles. What have you done recently?

          • +24

@The Judge: White knighting for an unknown poster on an online forum. Really?

      • +2

        why the hate for her?

        • +21

There's been so much unfounded hate.

She's very socially awkward and shy so her press conferences haven't gone well and she has skipped a few for mental health reasons. The sports media took offence to this and got stuck into her.
She also got a lot of hate from Serena Williams fans when she beat her at the US Open for her first grand slam title. Serena was extremely salty during the loss though did apologies afterwards (doesn't excuse her behaviour imo)

          • +1

            @Caped Baldy:

she has skipped a few for mental health reasons.

Becoming a mother and the breakup with her child's father will definitely add to it. If she was having mental issues, becoming a mother should have been the last thing on her list.

            • +4

@RSmith: She was having the mental issues long before getting pregnant. There's a crazy amount of pressure and hate as a young athlete and tennis can be a very solitary and lonely sport.

              • +1

                @Caped Baldy:

She was having the mental issues long before getting pregnant

Yeah. She should have sorted those out before bringing a child into this world.

          • +1

@Caped Baldy: While I agree there's so much unfounded hate, I disagree with the inference that the media are somehow wrong to question skipping press conferences. Media is why these atheltes get paid such ridiculous amounts of money, so she can't just expect to take 100% of the prize money and not do all the work.

            • +1

@JohnHowardsEyebrows: I agree in principle with what you're saying but I think the level of scrutiny went over and above what was necessary. The first time she was thrown in the spotlight was the US open final and she didn't even get to properly celebrate that victory.

And I see that she also did some black and asian rights activism and that wouldn't have won fans with the racist segment of the world.

why the hate for Elon Musk? why do ppl need to voice their opinion anyone who they never even met in person b4?

          • +4

@Frozensage: Whilst Elon has done good things he is objectively an (profanity) and hypocrite. He's engaged in numerous pointless twitter arguments and called an expert rescuing children a pedo.

      • Really? That's the best you do for someone with mental health issues? Really?

Even for this place that's poor.

    Thanks OP!

    • +1

Tennis arenas are generally structured such that there are rarely bad seats, just ones that are further away.

  • Oh dear I hope they have more revenue streams for the charity than just ticket sales lol

    • +1

    • feelsbadman

    • +1

      what's the trick?

    • +2

u could also see it as u r doing it for "charity"?

  • thanks OP!!

  • Between 2.30-3.15pm Monday, I tried and tired, could not get any tickets, then the free tickets became $20 tickets. :-)

  • Was this done in error, or were they all OzBargained? Nothing showing for me on desktop or mobile.

    • +1

      You're just late.

Posted 1.5 hrs ago, 100+ upvotes and 4k clicks.

    • +1

It was getting OzBargained sooooo quickkkk, so they disabled that promo ….

  • +3

It's over. All the charity matches are now costing money, no more comp offers.

  • If anyone has a spare one, I would appreciate!

  • +1

What is the duration of these charity matches?

  • Would be really thankful if anyone spare any extra tickets!

  • If someone has tickets and cannot be there, please dm me. Cheers

  • +1

Just curious if this will be a proper match or more of a fun spectacle like Rally for Relief or Play for Peace in previous years where the players were mic'ed up?

    • +1

It's a charity match, don't expect the players to go full throttle just before the start of Australian open.

  • If anyone has a spare one, I would appreciate!

    • +1

I can give you mine, you can message me.

      • +1

        PMed!

    Just received a SMS:

Naomi Osaka won't play in tonight’s Charity Match against 2021 US Open Champion Emma Raducanu as a precautionary measure for her AO campaign. She will still make a special appearance at the event. Replacing her is Croatian tennis great Donna Vekic. For more info, please visit Charity Match FAQ https://tktmstr.co/chy

    Typical Naomi lol…

    • +8

      Lol.

No wonder she get the hate… Quite deserving.

      • +4

She here helping multimillionaires at Tennis Australia dupe people out of $20 for "charity"

      • +5

fully expecting boos from team ozb when she makes her appearance xD

      • -1

Careful, all of the whiteknights rushing to protect her honour in this thread may object!

    • I came here to say that as well. :(

    • +3

      I want a refund!
and compensation for my mental wellbeing rushing off to get the ticket

  • Ah crap.

    • Hi, if you are no longer looking to go, happy to take the tickets off you!

      • +1

        Match tonight has been cancelled

        • +3

          Thanks Osaka.

  • Does anyone has couple of spare tickets?
    i would be really thankful.

  • Got 3 tickets for tonight, first to PM name and email gets them.

  • +3
  • +1

    Wow, cancelled

  • +1

Match cancelled :( but hey im getting a $0.000000001 refund :D

  • +3

What qualifying matchs can we see?

  • +4

These "charity" matches are a joke -__-

  • +2

Unfortunately, tonight's Charity Match will not take place. An automatic refund will be provided by Ticketmaster directly into your account. Please allow up to 3-5 business days. Your ticket will still provide you access to Melbourne Park today for AO Qualifying as well as extended Open Practice on Rod Laver Arena.

    • +1

That'll be sure to make Osaka popular with the local crowd…

  • +1

    Lousy

  • +1

What a joke. I want my free tennis match!

  • +4

I wish I could say 'easy come, easy go' but I purposely made a trip into the city for this. Local eateries and the PT benefited !

    • +1

      Thank you Shayne Albert…..haha

    • +6

The lateness of the cancelation is a bit shitty. I fortunately could catch my wife before she jumped on the train, yet i stayed late in the city to wait (and id paid for this one, didnt have the freebie).

  • +2

I want double the refund for my time, mental wellness compensation for myself, my family and others who i manage to get these tickets for! I want my accomodation, travel and expenses all paid for today for which I did not leave my house but intended to an hour ago

  • I guess someone at AO figured out that you can't raise money for charity by giving out free tickets 😂

    • +2

I think the game got canned because of the players pulling out, not the amount of money raised.

  • Well that was fun.

  • +1

Free tickets but ended up spending $160 on dinner instead :(

  • Haha naomi out first round…
