  • Have never tried myself, but I thought there had reports on here of cashback issues when price matching with Sony?

    • I have, on both cashrewards and shopback, it doesnt track initially, but a manual claim raised is approved and got it paid out. Over several similar transactions. Price match is not excluded from cashbacks.

      • Not true. It's been reported by multiple people that Sony does not honour cash back from either Shopback or Cashrewards if the item was price matched for the last few months.

        • Dunno, I'm sharing my experience. How does that justify the neg though? The price of the silver a7c ii is $2799 without price matching from Sony Aus too.

It's not in the terms that price matched item is excluded.

        • Agreed, given the small price difference (sony price $2799 vs. PM $2789), it's better to avoid the risk.

Hmmm, this or a7 IV…yes, I am aware they're identical besides the AI chip.

    • depends how much value you put on dual card slots, EVF, size, and AF joystick.

I actually have the a7iv and just got this and will decide which to keep, likely the A7cii - after getting alot of hands on time in japan, the size and weight difference is more substantial that on paper.

      • What lens(es) did you use? Thinking of getting this for an upcoming trip, but want to take/buy only one lens. Front runner is Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8, but worried it might be a bit heavy/large for carrying all day

        • +3

I (have always) preferred primes so Im using the 40mm f2.5 and 24mm f2.8 as my go-to. They are small and go very well with the A7C-type bodies.

the tamron 28-75 is a narrow-ish, but long lens. dont know how it'll fit with the a7c bodies but it definitely goes well with the a7iv.

i had a LOT of time in japan trying out all the lenses lol

        • You could always get Zeiss Batis 40mm F2. It is light and compact. Amazing colour production and good enough bokeh. It is an old lens.🤌

24mm f1.4 is also small. The newer G 2.5 series are quite small too.

          • @Jetkuma: we have differing opinions of what 'compact' is lol. everyone does it seems depending on what you're used to. I'm coming from m4/3, where it now look like toys compared to the smallest of FF lenses

            • @lawyerz: check out 35mm F1.8.

I owned and sold the tamron 28-75mm, probably get spoiled by prime, i find it not sharp, and bokeh look very busy

              • @humbala: Considered it but happy to just stick with my 40mm f2.5. too close.

      • I'm leaning towards the IV, the viewfinder is weird on the C, it's shifted right to the left.

Has anyone paired one of these with the Sigma EF to E Mount adapter? I've got a fair bit of EF lenses and aren't too keen on replacing the lenses if I'm happy to accept the crappier AF performance.

  • hmm interesting, I was looking at the IV but reading this now im not so sure, this one might do the job

    • +1

i'd go in shop and get hands on with both. the form factor would probably be the biggest difference.

  • When will we get a camera that does all the post for you?

Some say ever since they got a camera they can't go back to smartphones, I am the other way, find it very hard to get back to cameras now.

Another question is I assume not much camera shoots in HEIF right?

    • this camera can shoot in heif, but its a pain when exporting it to phone as my dumb android phone doesnt recognise heif.

      • That is good news, now someone go tell Sony to put their smartphone tech into a camera and I will line up to buy;

If you have a phone that doesn't read HEIF then you need a new phone… Just not pixel 7.

  • This or the Panasonic S5 MKII, decisions decisions

    • Depends if you already have Sony lens. If you have Sony lens, the answer is simple.

      • -1

No Sony lenses, as you say easy if I did

        • You can check which brand's lenses and camera can retain value in 2nd hand market. Many people upgrade their lenses and camera body after 2 to 5 years.

In the last 5 years, Sony and Fuji attract more younger generations. More professionals are using Sony compared to Panasonic.

    • Same boat and don't own any lenses.
