        This is a V1 - read / watch reviews before buying…

        • -2

I wouldn’t buy df64 anyway … I prefer Eureka - much better equipment and made in Italy.

          • @bilbies: Yeah anyway, you posted a link of a gen 1 but we are talking about gen 2

            • -3

@Imposter: There is more marketing about df64 v2 than substance, it’s a “car facelift”: using the correct techniques and taking care of your grinder overcomes most of perceived v1 shortfalls. I used both of them and IHMO df64 v2 is not worth extra $ when imported from OS without local warranty.

              • @bilbies: @bilbies DF64 V2 and DF64 Gen 2 are not the same machine.

  • +2

Wow, that is still so expensive!

    • +8

Wait till you see the price of cars.

I got mine 2 weeks ago. Pre ordered through this website with the DLC Burrs. Great grinder. Dramatic improvements over the Gen 1. But yes its comes with a UK plug.

    • Lucky you, I ordered the DLC burr version in white a week ago and it will only ship after Feb 10.

    • How long was it between ordering and delivery?

  • +1

Not a fan of the bellows. It's a shame timemore increased the price so much from their Kickstarter project. But I'd go with something like the timemore 064s or 078s

    • +1

The only problem being those of us who ordered it via Kickstarter still haven't received the damn thing.

      • My mate got his 064s mid december

        • Yeah I know some people got their 064s. I ordered 078s and don't believe any 078s has been delivered yet.

          • @keejoonc: Not yet, a cafe owner I know is waiting for his as well

          • @keejoonc: Yeah I got mine 064s in December as well. Starting to realise I might prefer conical burrs, I’m preferring espresso from my Mahlkonig x54 it seems, though perhaps more seasoning is required

    • +1

Good luck, I heard a few months back that they were still trying to work out 78 & 78S electrical safety approvals for the AU market.

I have the DF64V instead, which is the slimmer brushless model. The difference between using and not using the bellows is less than 0.05g! So if anyone doesn't like bellows, you don't have to use it with the DF64V.

      • Thats actually not bad.

  • Dont know about this one, but my Niche Zero hasnt skipped a beat in years.

    • +2

Niche zero is conical burr so favours darker style roasts with chocolate toffee notes.. can do both but just favours that side.
The flat burrs extract fruitier flavours better so those single origins and lighter roasts

      • Just been using it for espresso. Actually im semi on the lookout for a new grinder for filter/v60. Any recs?

        • I do use a hand grinder for mine but the one in OP should be good if you want a electronic, I really just don't like bellows it just seems like a very messy process

          • @maverickjohn: You could see my coffee station after grinding just a couple of doses.

            • @Banj0: I can imagine.. your coffee station would be distinguishable from the amount of fine grind all over the bench

              • @maverickjohn: Handheld vac is a handy addition for any single-dosing coffee station :-)

Apparently water spritzing may reduce this a bit by minimising static charge. Not that anybody on the east coast would have a problem with this humidity atm.

                • @Banj0: I bought an rdt even though I don't really need it to reduce the risk hahaha

        • If you want it on a budget 1zpresso zp6 is the best filter manual grinder. For electric, I would recommend a grinder that takes 64mm flat burrs so you can change it out, if you like clarity go for SSP mp. Df dlc is also quite good but that is more for espresso and brings out the darker notes.

      • How does that work?

    • +1

Niche is good but the price went ballistic :(

  • +1

Plasma generator? Wtf! The description is lots of marketing nonsense. I'm happy if you're happy, but will stick to known brands and models.

    • +1

This machine is pretty well known now. Some companies really need to employ some decent writers though for their destination markets.

    • +1

The plasma generator makes a big difference in workflow if you don't like to rdt. Now could they have called it static reducing device, yes but it doesn't sound cool.

    • Even the Gevi uses something like that I believe.

    • Plasma is becoming standard these days. Many grinders are coming with it.

  • I picked up a DF64"V" for a little over a grand from Alternative Brewing late last year. Great grinder.

Can get the same without the local warranty from dfcoffee.com for $883
DF64V Coffee Grinder [Latest Model - Faster, Lighter, Smarter]
    Grey / 220-240V / Standard DLC
    Cost summary $838.00
    Shipping $45.00
    Total AUD $883.00

It has improved coffee workflow tremendously compared to my old grinder. Very little mess too - and single dosing.

This link has a nice table at the end that compares the different DF64 models -

    • This is a very nice grinder, I've been using it for about 4 months now. I used the included DLC burrs and then later on switched to the SSP Cast Lab burrs with red speed coating. Between the 2, I found the cast burrs better for filtered, whereas the original DLC burrs were actually better for espresso with the beans I was using (Columbian single origin from Agrobeans).

If you are buying from DF64coffee, there is a 5% code that I found from a youtube video. It is OCS5%

    • nice - takes the DF64V down to $841.10

      • how would u compare df64 to df64 Gen 2?

        • Gen 2 any day. I have a DF64 gen 1. Its good but in gen 2 they have fixed all the issues.

  • This or the Eureka Mignon Specialita? Mainly for milk based drinks 1-2 /day

    • +1

      This

    • +3

Most coffeetubers prefer DF64 gen 2, don't bother with the gen 1 though.

  • UK plug aside, what's the downside from buying from DF64 Coffee Grinder over local suppliers. Issues with warranty in the future?

    • That's correct, if you run into problems with your unit when you get it or with in the warranty period. So you have to weigh the risk $650 imported or $990 local stock.
