Mate just coz you're poor doesn't mean the rest of us are. This tv is AMAZING, he wasn't lying when he said best consumer tv available. The 'bargain' is determined by reference to its value, not just whether it's outright cheap. I was really close to buying this one myself, but ended up buying a Samsung 65" plasma instead. I regret not shelling out the extra 1k for this, Samsung plasmas are too loud and have a rather clunky interface, but the picture quality is brilliant too.

It's a great deal. BigBrownBox have it for $5300.

Sorry lovepub, to compare a VT to a <$1000 3D TV is crazy. This is a bargain because its almost 25% cheaper than anywhere else. And 25% off is a bargain in anyone's language.

      • +4

its still a 1080p display isnt it…id only pay this kind of money for 4k

    • +3

I always look for a bargain, supermarket deals, etc, bought a lot off here, $99 hp touchpad, lg 50" tv for $475, and numerous other deals, on the other hand(see my iPod dock post in my profile) the money saved being a tight arse can go on other "expensive" bargains. The whole user database here isn't living on a minimal budget/wage. Bargains are for everyone.

    • If iPhone 5 or Samsung galaxy s3 selling at $500 and $300. It is a bargain to many people. luxury items can be a bargain when it is the cheapest around.

    • I wonder how you'd feel if someone post a "bargain" $1m house on here.

      • Good point. I think it's more about consumer goods though, which houses don't really fall under.

What competitor did you price match to?

    • +1

I called Myer Carindale when enquiring about the S Series and just asked what's the best price on 65inch VT50 as I had seen it there a few days earlier for $5500. I asked the lady for the best price she came back and said $4400. Again I asked her if she could beat this. She spoke the the manager and came back with $4050 and extra $50 on top for delivery.
I was going to travel there but called Indooropilly to see if I could order it there. I asked the guy there if he could reduce price any more so he took it down to $4000. So to answer your question I price matched Myer with Myer.

      • Amazing what prices can be achieved just by asking :) Cheers.

  • +10

a true ozbargainer wouldve lugged it themselves and not paid the $50 delivery charge ;)

    • +8

True ozbargainer will go to mate's home and watch their big screen TV

      • All my friends are ozbargainers thanks to me. Bummer, now I have nowhere to watch TV.

If you can afford that outlay on a single parent pension, you must have some great ways of saving money. There was a forum post on being a tightarse awhile back, it was quite intersting and had lots of good tips. Do you reckon you could share some tips with us? Maybe in a forum post? It would be appreciated, because you must have some great ideas.

Good on you that you quit smoking! Wow, never new smokes are that expensive a habit as I am a non smoker. But hey not only you get a top TV but also better health!

    • +9

Ah, so I paid for your TV. Good to know.

    • +7

Your post was probably best not shared as you're going to come under fire from all angles. I haven't negged you but I expect many will.

On a plus note, I'm glad you've quit smoking! Dirty habit that one.

    • Single parent pension and buying a $4k TV. Ahh, my tax dollars hard at work.

Can't wait for a Liberal government.

    • -5

What! Getting negged just because you are able to save for one luxury item on social security! Seems a lot of people think anyone on social security (and their kids) should be living in a cardboard box.

      • +7

If you need other people's money to survive but can afford outrageous luxury items then something is wrong. Taxpayers money is not there to help people who are supposedly struggling financially, buy top of the line TVs

        • -2

and of course you and othe rright wing types would never take the baby bonus or any of the middle class family tax perks?

        • +1

Middle class tax perks - Lol. Has It ever occurred to you that's because they're the ones paying the most tax in the first place?

How can you compare middle class families with working & tax paying parents, to Centrelink bludgers who just leech off everyone else and don't contribute a cent?

      • +1

        or get a job?

    • Come on guys, this is an obvious troll.

Look his other posts, COD4, Nerf gun, and PS Vita.

  • -5

    Off topic but important info
I quit due to the Prescribed drug Champix
It makes you quit automatically but is potentially lethal if you get the bad side effects and
is undergoing class action lawsuits in various countries
I have no problems on it but others do want to kill themselves whilst on these pills

    • -3

Nice. What do you plan to buy with the class action compo money?

  • +1

i got a price of $2799 for the 55inch screen, same model but ex display, worth it??

maybe the 65inch will be too big

    • +2

      It's never too big!

…and no that's not what she said

  • You will always get used to the size. Always get the biggest you can afford. Also for 3D i read
that 65 inch is almost the minimum for a good impact. For display models access the service menu to
see how many hours its been used for. Also take a SD card in with white, green, yellow backgrounds
to play on screen after it is set to full brightness to look closely for image retention and burn in.
Also for new set use the plasma break in slides for 100hrs + to equalize the phosphors

  • +3

To test for size limitations find someone with an iPhone
And download Panasonic Viera AR Setup Simulator
It is an amazing program which will display any current
Panasonic HDTV in your house via augmented reality
And also can be used to gauge any TV size regardless
If it is a Panasonic or not
In Layman's terms you point the iPhone camera to a piece of paper and it will display the TV on the iPhone screen to show you the exact size and look anywhere you want

    • +1

Well I'll be damned what technology is doing these days :)

  • +1

May be a good price but I don't trust CNET reviews.

  • +1

It's not actually a cnet review but the link is for
The biggest and comprehensive industry test in the world.
Google vt50 reviews and it scores higher then all other tvs

  • -3

    Huh…?? This is a plasma :-( phhhtt…

Had one pana plasma take a fit and the replacement new set is not worth watching compared to my LG lcd.

Out of the sets mentioned in that so called expert test ? (lol) I would take the Sharp LCD thank you.

    • Yes so is going to use a sh**load of power. About 500 watts - bit later - actually 222 watts according to the Panasonic site.

    • Which LG do have mate? All the LG's I have seen have terrible motion handling, important if you are watching any sport or fast action scenes. Panasonic plasmas have the best motion handling I have seen (since the Pioneers stopped being made), not to mention deep blacks and realistic colors.

  • Also you will get $80 Myer Gift Voucher for the 8000 points you get 3 months streaming Quixflix via Panasonic redemption

  • Great Effort. I tried to get Myer stores in WA to price match using your receipt during their recent 20% off sale but they wouldn't. Brought the TV anyway - is awesome.

  • So was it $4500 after 20% off?
