Wife was talking about making some salads and needing something like this….came across it while looking for an office chair (anyone else hate office chair shopping?).

Other peelers from Oxo are listed on the same page and are also on sale at least 50% off.

    I have this peeler - it's great.
I use it mostly for carrots for salads/noodle bowls!

So the three peelers are on sale at $25.77 (40% off).

I got the same set in Jan 2022 for $9.99 on Amazon. The julienne one has been useful for carrots (I haven't used it for anything else), but feels a bit expensive now. Yeah, no Delorean handy, but for the record.

    • Yeah, I bought the 3 pack for $9.99 back in 2022. Could not believe things were so cheap previously.

    • I got the three set too when it was $9.99 but I don't really get good result with carrots using the Julienne peeler. Like they are still loosely sticking to each other. Maybe I'm not doing it right :/

If it sticks all the way along the threads, you may need to press harder. If it sticks at the top (where you start peeling), so it creates a sort of a comb, I think that's normal and you need to separate the threads (or cut that top off).

        • 👍

Regarding "combing", since the "peeling" cutter needs to come in under to cut the layer off, sometimes when you start peeling the cutting fingers (for the julienne) start a little too far from the edge. Usually easy enough to just break them apart, which is what I usually do when it happens.

          • @Chandler: I usually seem to have the opposite problem with these style cutters where it starts off fine, then it ends with the end of the comb. I just can't seem to get it to cut it to the end.

had no idea so many different type of peelers existed

what'd you do for the office chair?

    • +1

Still looking unfortunately. I've checked out some on Amazon, OfficeWorks (online) and Costco (online). There's always a review or two that throws my interest out the window for the one im looking at (under $300).

      • Stylecraft outlet might be worth a look.

      • +1

Dunno if you care, but if you don't mind used office chairs there are quite a few companies that sell those.

      • Try gumtree

      • Got this one last year, can confirm they are really good.

      • My personal chair recommendation after doing a fk ton of looking and comparing decent prices: https://www.ikea.com/au/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark…

Only issue (if you want to call it that) is that if you're on the taller end, the high back/neck area can become a bit tiresome on the neck, but otherwise it's been wonderful and great mesh for the hotter days.

        • +1 for the markus chair from IKEA, although at $249 now. I thought I got mine for $179?

share the dreadful feeling mate so thought to share my experience. Had been looking for a office chair for the past year and ended up ordering the below chair during Prime Sales after trying a different version of Sihoo chair at a friend's place Sihoo Chair

Simply loving it as I work for home only. May be check their parent site to understand different and subtle variants.

        • +1

The SIHOO M18 (fairly well reviewed) is on sale on the sihoo au site for 270 and is worth a look OP

      • I reccomend the Haworth Zody, shoot me a dm if you are after one. I have both arm and armless that fit within your budget

      • Herman Miller Mirra 1 is routinely $200-250 on Gumtree. Worth every penny.

Oxo products are so great. I've bought so many oxo products for the household.

    • So true..over the years, from peelers, to the classic tongs.. They just work well, happy customer here as well.

        Stock cubes aren't bad either.

  • Did wife not make salads before this?

    • +1

She did….but nothing fancy. Hopefully this peeler will help her.

Real worth is a few bux. Prices like $20 are designed for massive discounts. $3.50 in Coles https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-multifunction-peeler-…
And it has a side claw which is handy too.

I've been using the same OXO peelers for years and they are just as sharp and smooth as they were out the packaging. Previously used cheapo peelers like the one you linked and after half a year they were dull and didn't perform. OXO is popular for a good reason, especially because their peelers are excellent quality

      • +2

I've been using the same peeler from Coles, but another color, for 5 years by now, and its still sharp. I use it around 3 times a week for around a kilo of vegs each time.
Oxo is overpriced and that gives people placebo effect, that's the reason for being popular.

    • Not all peeler are the same depending on your requirements, I've been through a lot of them and the one I'm most happy with is cheap no name from DFO.

  • same as OP, been looking for a good office chair for the last 6 months

    • 6 months is a long time - enough to save up for a Herman Miller?

      • can't afford/justify it to be honest

  • The set of 3 were $20

  • OOS again but ended up getting the 3 set for $22

    • I am seeing $25.77?

      • +1

I somehow had a $3 coupon applied automatically. No idea how

  • Looks similar to the Joseph Joseph peeler.

    • +1

Or any other peeler with a plastic grip, right.

  • +1

I have this too, I’ve found it makes good strips for salad but my wife says too fine for a true julienne for cooking no matter how hard you press.

  • +1

King Julien likes to move it, move it.

  • pretty much similar with Joseph Peler

  • I don't get this design of peeler at all. They're just horrible to use. I have a couple of ceramic ones that came with some knives, they're sharp but the angles are all wrong when peeling.

Give me one of those Victorinox peelers any day. Now that's a proper peeler.

    • +1

You just have to adjust your technique with these peelers. I peel a lot quicker with these than the old style like the Victorinox you've linked.
